Nilastan had gradually begun implementing more and more liberalization policies, leading to an attempted coup by the hardliner 'Puraana Hind Faction' of the Nilastani Communist Party, which was thwarted by the civil defence forces. Following this incident, the reformist 'Aarthik Sudhaar Faction' only grew in influence, implementing widespread reforms under Chairman Chandani Varma, leading to the rise of an Anti-Reformist insurgency primarily in the northeast of the country.
