The '''Sultanate of Aïr''', usually referred to as '''Aïr''' (or Air) was a sovereign nation located in West Africa. It was formed from the aftermath of the [[Tuareg Crisis]], much like its "sister nation" of [[Ahaggar]]. The nation had a population of roughly 3 million, Most situated in the 3 southern regions of the nation.

Aïr bordered [[Hausaland]] to the west, [[Ahaggar]] and [[Jeriya]] to the north, [[Bornuvia]] to the east and [[Erbuja]] to the south. The nation was landlocked, and thus had to do its shipping through [[Jeriya]] and [[Erbuja]]. The capital of the nation was [[Agadez]], which used to be a major city in [[Saharia]] before its collapse.

Aïr was destroyed in the Bornuvian Conflict, as the Hausaland Amred Forces crossed the borders from the west after inciting a communist revolt in agadez, eventually managing to hunt down any remaining Aïren loyalists alongside Warrani, who was executed as the nation was fully annexed into Hausaland.

Aïr was officially an autocratic monarchy, however in practice this wasn't exactly true as each region of the country had self-governance to the degree that the central government didn't usually exert much control over most of the country in peace times regardless, leading to a generally minarchist nation. The Monarch was known as [[Warrani H. Umaru]], who was the self proclaimed Sultan of the [[House of Umaru]]. The House of Umaru did not actually have a history of being an aristocratic house, as [[Warrani H. Umaru]] was the founder of the house. He initially was a monarchist defector from the [[Talahaq Military]] movement, who declared himself Sultan of the Tuaregs in the Aïr Mountains.

Aïr was predominately muslim, with 91% of its population adhering to Islam. In addition to that the was mostly a mix of ethnic Tuaregs and Hausa, with some other minorities.

Aïr was founded out of the chaos of the [[Tuareg Crisis]], with the defection of [[Warrani H. Umaru]] from the [[Talahaq Military]]. The movement promised a unified, traditional Tuareg Sultanate. They were initially not int he best position, as their alliance with the [[Tuareg Unitarians|Unitarians]] broke down they were surrounded on all sides by enemies. Despite their hardships they managed to exploit the power vacuum left from [[Bornuvia]] leaving the war, allowing them to swoop in and steamroll [[Hausaland]], effectively allowing them to win the war.

Aïr became neutral following this war for several decades until 350, in which Bornuvia launched "Operation Alwala' Alqadim", attacking Aïr with the aim of restoring Saharia. While Aïr did manage to repel the attacks to the point that Bornuvia fell into a civil war, [[Hausaland]] used this as an opportunity to swiftly invade Aïr, which was successful.
