Alkid is considered to be the homeworld of the Empyrean species, but is actually a first-generation colony world - their original homeworld having been all but forgotten with conflicting accounts. It is the ''de jure'' capital of the [[Empyrium]], being the operating base of the [[Imperial Authority]] and more importantly, the [[Emperor of the Empyrium\|Emperor]]. As a result, it holds hegemony over all Imperial Systems, whereas its importance is reduced to a ceremonial role within free systems, who look more towards [[San]] as the functioning capital.
