The '''Courtyard''' is a Liminal Sub-Space within the Backrooms System that takes the form of a series of irregularly-shaped courtyards and hallways composed of white-coloured concrete walls of unknown thickness with various windows built into them. The main point of focus within this sub-spaces are the courtyards, with unusual grass plazas being surrounded by windowed walls and ceilings on all sides. The courtyards often vary in appearance, layout, and most drastically height, as while many are roughly 10 floors tall reports have differing ranges of 3 floor tall and 100 floor tall courtyards have been widely publicized. The hallways that connect these courtyards also tend to lack consistency, with directions spontaneously appearing and vanishing, and internal decorations varying from empty to full of furniture.

Due to its survival difficulty and the hazards that it brings and its lack of resources, the Courtyard only has a population of roughly 4-14 transitory visitors at any given time despite its 'ease' of access to more populated regions.. Hostile entities have been sighted within the hallways by most whom have ventured here, making them a persistent threat for exploration and settlement.
