			After the [[Zapadoluvakhian War of Independence]] saw [[Kalevala]] weakened and many of its territories occupied, the Kalevian government agreed to sign the 'Rovaniemi Agreement' which saw [[Svealish]] and [[Zapadoslavian]] forces withdraw from the [[Meänmaa-Finnmark Distrikt]] and the [[Savo-Karel'skiy Rayon]] in return for said regions becoming demilitarized, while the [[Groys-Baltik Labour Republic]] returned many territories in northern [[Tanume]] to Kalevala. As Kalevala began restoring friendly relations with the 3 members of the [[Baltic Assembly]], the populace of Kalevala grew outrage over being friendly with their nation's adversaries, launching a nation-wide insurrection under the '[[Mustalippu Liike]]'.

			Within weeks, most of Kalevala fell under the rule of the MLL, prompting militias within the Karelian DMZ to rise up and proclaim the independence of the '[[Karelian National Government]]', while in the north the [[Suomi-Pohjola Military District]] split in two as the '[[Sapmi Regional Assembly]]' revolted. Rather easily, the MLL managed to overwhelm the Kalevian government enough to capture [[Helsinki]], forcing the former government to flee to Tanume as the 'military districts' collapsed and largely fell under the rule of the newly proclaimed '[[Kalevian Empire]]', which began to wage war against the separatists. Now mainly limited to solely Tanume, the Republic of Kalevala began to fall into disarray as the '[[Tanumian Independence Board]]' rose up to expel the Republic's remains, leading to a largescale insurgency war in the region.

			Seeing the new Empire as a clear threat, the Baltic Assembly decided to intervene in Kalevala by launching an invasion, which additionally allowed the Separatists to regain ground in many regions. The Pro-Republic [[Kymenlaakso Army]] and [[Pohjanmaa Army]] had previously been fighting to retake Oulu and Helsinki quite successfully, but the Baltic Assembly intervention had disorganized their permissions and prompted them to switch sides to defend their homeland. The Empire attempted to negotiate a united front with the Karelians and Sapmi to deal with the threat, but as they refused they put their attention on reclaiming these areas alongside local pro-Empire insurgents to weaken the Assembly's invasion. Pro-Republic forces in Sapmi-Pohjola surrendered to the Zapadoslavians and joined their war effort with promises of restoring Kalevala's pre-war borders, leading to much of the area falling to the Empire as regardless of who they supported everyone in Kalevala hated the Assembly, though many whom feared the MLL's far-right ideology fled Kalevala into Groys-Baltik thru Tanume (where MLL forces had begun to invade). After some time, the Empire managed to expel all Separatist, Republican, and Assembly forces from Kalevala, signing a ceasefire with its enemies as it proclaimed victory against Kalevala's enemies.
