'''The Desert''' is a [[Liminal Sub-Space]] within the [[Backrooms System]] that takes the form of a vast expansive desert, with all that enter it arriving in a sea of sand dunes. The further you travel the smaller the dunes become, until eventually becoming nearly completely flat, making such areas surprisingly habitable due to the desert's relatively mild temperatures and large aquifer systems. The largest settlement within this area is [[New Alshqati]], a self-governing polity home to roughly a thousand residents spread throughout countless houses and apartment buildings, acting as one of the few places in the Backrooms that truly 'resembles' life in reality, albeit much more isolated than before.

Thanks to its sufficient underground water reserves, mild temperatures, and similarity to reality, The Desert is home to roughly 1023-1105 permanent inhabitants and transitory visitors at any given time as of 454, of which a vast majority reside within New Alshqati, which is governed by the local '[[Community of New Alshqati]]', a state-structure responsible for resource allocation and infrastructure development.
