The Creature, part 2

Year: 226 CE ("210 CE")

Chapter 1

Smoke billows out of the Latina Nuclear Power Plant

Residents of Level 42 watch in horror as a cloud of fallout descends over their villages

"Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"Those screams."

"They don't sound human.."

"Don't be so silly.."

There is a large vwomp sound, like a portal

"Hmm.."

"That might have been a bit odd..."

"Even for the backrooms."

"Should we go check?"

"You first."

The person leaves the house

...

...

...

The screams since stopped. (ye)

The person in the house hears a huge metallic clanging, like an echo

...

...

...

"Where is he?"

She steps outside

Into a vast cavern.

Not too wide or long, but seemingly stretches vertically for miles.

Occasionally, small plates of metal come tumbling down the shaft.

Huge spheres covered with lattices are anchored to the shaft's walls.

The shaft's walls are a pale white.

Running your fingers on it produces a fine dust.

"Honey?"

"I think we noclipped again.."

...

"Are you there?"

She hears a panting sound

She turns around

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

A portal opens, and she is pulled through by someones arm

The thing chases her into the portal, entering it

The person grabbing her swings her round once through, leaving the creature to run and slip on oil

The person frantically presses a button which raises a forcefield just in time, and the creature runs into it facefirst.

Screaming, the creature bursts through the double doors at the other end of the room, running away.

The two can still hear its screams in the corridors.

"Oh- oh my god.."

"Stay here."

The person runs to the double doors, barricading them.

"Hi. My name is Jimmy."

"Uh...hi.."

"Uh..."

"Where are we?"

"What happened?"

"Am i still in the backrooms?"

Jimmy says "Well uhh... No."

"We're back in the real world."

...

"B...but.."

"He's still out there..."

"In those caves.."

Jimmy says "We know."

"And we're looking."

"We're above those caves right now."

"About... 12 kilometres off the floor of the shaft - where you were."

"We knew something had happened at Latina.."

"So we figured this would be a great place to uhm...."

"Contain it.. for now."

...

"So.... where are we?"

Jimmy says "Alright.."

"What planet are you from?"

"Yata."

Jimmy says "Well..."

"We are in lower TERAPRO."

"Dilapidated place, past the duodenum."

"Duodenum? As in the intestines?"

"Well, I mean-"

"WE'RE IN A CREATURE?"

"No!"

"It's jsut that-"

There is a crash

Jimmy says "We need to go. Now."

He grabs her hand

They run into a freezer

"Oh my god.. it's so cold in here- are those pigs?"

"Sorry.."

They hear a demonic screech

"Huh?!"

"What does that mean?!?!"

"..."

"It's hunting."

Chapter 2

They hear the doors swing open

Followed by light metallic clanking as the creature roams the laboratory

Jimmy stares through a crack in the door, and sure enough, the creature is there.

The dim blue lights begin to dim further

They hear it's demonic breath as it approaches the freezer

"I'm... scared.."

Jimmy says "..."

It starts banging on the door

"AAAAH!"

"Hang in there.."

"We'll be okay... we'll-"

Attention citizens of TERAPRO. Load shedding is now in effect.

The lights turn off

The locks disengage

Andrei says "Another blackout.."

Oliver says "Yeah."

They see a flash of light as Carbonado turns into their room

He is holding a high power torch.

Carbonado says "Helloooo."

"I'm off to check on the backup generators."

"And.. Andrei."

"Still no use on Cormac-"

Andrei says "It's funny how you think I care."

Carbonado says "A- oh.."

"Oh, sorry."

"I'll be off now."

Oliver says "Alright... stay safe."

Under the dim red emergency lights, Andrei studies his engagement ring.

He faintly sees Oliver's scattered reflection in the diamond.

He sighs.

Carbonado walks through TERAPRO's dark halls.

Rooms either side of him are deserted as people headed to the bunkers.

Carbonado murmurs "It was only a blackout..."

"So where is everyone?"

He hears a snarl from the other end of the corridor

Instinctively, he turns off his torch, and begins tip-toeing back the way he came

"Come on... think..."

"..."

"I wasn't told there was going to be a blackout."

"Th-that's it.."

"Oh... this better not be some SDS-001 crap.."

"Whatever the SDS has this time... I'm sure I can handle it.."

"Right..."

"To reactor ops then."

He hears a bloodcurdling scream

"Oh."

He turns on his torch and runs towards the elevator

He hears another snarl, followed by heavy, squeaking footsteps

He swings a right into an elevator, hitting the button as fast as possible.

Just as the doors close, sealing the dark corridor, a huge thud indents the elevator door.

The lift moves up, but gets trapped by the door.

Through a crevasse, a long, sinewy pale arm reaches through.

Carbonado says "Oh my god.. what is that."

"Uhh..."

He kicks the arm, and the thing screams.

Its arm pulls out, and seemingly by what he hears, it runs away.

He opens the top vent in the elevator, climbing out into the shaft.

He sees red flashing lights stretch from top to bottom of the shaft.

"Oh."

"So the reserve power wasn't enough anyway..."

He begins climbing the shaft to the reactor ops floor.

He hears another scream from below.

Opening an emergency door, he enters the floor and turns on his light.

Looking around with the torch, he sees no sign of life.

He begins walking to reactor ops.

Entering the room, he sees the reactor has been lowered, as it would be in its dormant phase.

"The reactor's lowered."

"So someone's shut it off..."

"And disguised it as... a blackout."

"Someone..."

"Someone shut off the reactor.."

He increases power to the torch using his powers, bright enough to blind him, but bright enough to shine the 300 metres down to the reactor superstructure.

He looks at the fuel cell loading bays. Not a single person is there, and all fuel cells look operational.

"Oh."

"Fuel's in.."

He pushes the button to turn the power on again.

The button does not work.

"Oh shit."

"The start sequence."

He hears a snarl.

He turns around to see the creature.

He runs into a corridor.

"Oh shit.."

"Oh shit oh shit."

The creature begins chasing him

It keeps snarling and screaming

"Ok ok..."

"Where to go.."

"Oh."

"The circuit breakers."

"They're in sub level three..."

"Isn't that where Jimmy went?!"

"Welp..."

"Here goes nothing."

He runs into the main corridors, which are still deserted.

He enters another elevator shaft where the creature can't follow him.

He begins descending the shaft in the centre.

Suddenly, the cables of the elevator above him snap.

"Oh..."

Swinging out of the way, he has an idea.

He gets on top of an adjacent lift, and unlocks the brakes.

The elevator begins plummeting down the shaft.

Falling over 2 kilometres down the cave, he then turns the brakes on again.

It comes almost to a crash at the bottom

He runs out into the corridor of sub level 3.

"Circuit breakers... circuit breakers.."

There is a snarl.

"Oh..."

"You clever-"

He begins running.

He shines the torch in it's eyes, which does nothing.

"Jimmy knows where they are..."

"I pray you have your door locks on."

"I pray... I PRAY."

There are more snarls

"Oh... so you called your friends."

"I'm up for a chase."

He runs down the corridor as screams echo behind him

He swings round, and they slide trying to chase him

"JIMMY!"

"JIMMY, ARE YOU THERE?!"

He sees the laboratory doors up ahead

"AHAHA!"

"I'M ALMOST THERE!"

He enters the lab, closing the doors behind him and barricading them

Sure enough, they break through.

He sees the freezer

"Betcha that has damn door locks.."

Circling round equipment to avoid the creatures in the room, he backs up to the freezer door.

They approach him slowly...

He opens the door slowly.

And he runs in, slamming it behind him.

The lights are on.

"Oh Jimmy... I swear to god.."

"You gave me a-"

........

He sees Jimmy's mutilated body in the corner of the room, having seemingly been disembowelled by one of the creatures.

He hears whimpering behind him

"H...help me..."

Carbonado turns around

He sees a woman cowering in the opposite corner, her black hair covered in frost, and extremely pale.

She shudders, pointing to a side vent.

"I'm sorry..."

"I couldn't save him.."

He turns around again, looking at Jimmy.

He then looks back at her.

Carbonado says "I-"

"I tried..."

"I tr-tried.."

The woman succumbs to the cold

Carbonado says "Nononono..."

He rushes down to her.

She has no pulse.

Almost in tears, he stands back up again.

The tears freeze on his face.

"B..but.."

"Tears are salty..."

"They shouldn't be freezing.."

"..."

"Oh no.."

"The lower homeostatic complex.."

"We.."

"We dont pay to cool down the facility.."

"We pay to heat it up..."

"If the heating systems are failing.."

"Then the backup generators are off."

"And if the backup generators are off...."

"Who's giving it sedatives?"

He runs out the freezer and the lab towards the elevator shaft.

Frantically, he begins climbing the ladder.

Unbeknownst to him, the walls of the lab break, and water comes rushing in.

The floors pool with water.

And the water begins to rise.
