As a part of their expansion campaign northwards, the Empire of the Twelve-Suns encountered its first established civilization a region, the Zaithic Kingdom, against whom a large skirmish occurred which ended in the Zaithics' favour. A year after this battle, the Empire of the Twelve Suns arrived on the edge of Zaithic space with a full fleet intended to wipe out the Zaithics as a threat. Twelve-Suns forces managed to capture Tul and threaten the Zaithic capital of Saeith before being forced back in a devastating counteroffensive on Saeith, preventing a Twelve Suns victory as Zaithic forces (with Protoss support) prevented the fall of Tanda and liberated Tul, kicking all Twelve-Suns forces out of their space. The Protoss Empire began inciting slave uprisings and assassinating military leaders in the Twelve-Suns which allowed the Zaithic Kingdom to advance into Twelve Suns space, proclaiming their invasion to be a 'crusade'. A Protoss Dark Templar left behind 'Kydarian Crystals' which granted visions to a Zaithic soldier about being a Protoss which gave a lot of intel to their forces. As they advanced, Zaithic forces rallied the minority populations of the Empire of the Twelve Suns by promising them emancipation as long as they converted to the Zaithic religion, leading to the Twelve Suns falling into disarray thanks to being overwhelmed by the Zaithics' 'fear tactics' and massacres as they advanced towards Antares, prompting the Protoss Empire to withdraw their support for the Zaithics. Once Zaithic forces reached Antares, they occupied the planet and committed a massacre which saw most government officials alongside a billion civilians killed (which also occurred on other worlds) to punish the Twelve Suns before retreating back into their own space, which the Protoss found to be reprehensible.

The Twelve-Suns began falling into chaos over the death of its leaders, prompting the Protoss to send in a peacekeeping mission to occupy Razanna, Antares, and Vozonda, though this was not sufficient in preventing the nation from falling into chaos, prompting the Galactic Federation (mainly the CARS-Twelve-Suns District) to intervene to restore order while the Twelve Suns were attempting to instate interim governments such as the Errimond Command and Home Sectors Military Authority while tens of local separatist militia revolted leading to the collapse of the remnants of the Twelve Suns' central government. After a few months of chaos, a new military government was established by the garrison of the planet Sarconia which moved to restabilize the empire, waging a war to reclaim as much as it could while the IDI occupied the southeastern portion of Twelve-Suns space to restore order. Once only the Sarconia-based government and Galactic Federation remained, both attempted to demand the other's withdrawal to rebuild the Twelve Suns' space which failed, but as neither side wanted war they agreed to administer each other's areas separately.
