Zolians are a sapient humanoid species native* to the planet Aliuz-Zol located in Grid L13 of the Milky Way Galaxy's core regions within the territory of the Second Galactic Federation, of which an interstellar society they have established is a founding member. Much like the other members of this Federation, the Zolians are a genetic descendent of the extinct 'Sollurians', deriving many of their physical traits from their ancestors they had diverged from hundreds of thousands of years ago, though due to their proximity to the former Sollurian homeworld of Sollus they are likely the closest living relatives of the Sollurians. Zolians have a fairly standard humanoid frame including a torso, two arms, two legs, and a head on top with hair growing out of their scalp , which together comprise a fairly large and bulky body with a height of roughly 3,7 metres. Much like other Post-Sollurians, their dark purplish-blue skin is decorated with a number of markings (in their case blue-coloured) resembling lines and freckles scattered across their entire body in intricate patterns. Their mountainous, arid, and forested homeworld is often prone to extensive periods of near complete darkness for much of the year, thus early Zolians developed some degree of bioluminescence visible on brighter parts of their skin and eyes in dark environments used to identify one another and warn of dangers.

Zolian culture and social organization tends to be fairly informal, never having formed an entrenched bureaucracy, political strive, or even a familial structure, instead Zolians tend to form 'associations' of individuals which cooperate amongst one another in loose networks of collaborators working for mutual benefit. Zolian 'associations' have over time expanded in complexity and level of interconnection, eventually giving rise to a highly decentralized meritocratic 'system' where everyone is in some form affiliated with one another to emerge as the predominant 'governing force' within their society which came to be known as the 'Qhal' system (with the term for the loosest species-spanning association coming to be known as the 'Qhal-Zol'), eventually leading to the advent of interstellar travel which allowed them to settle numerous worlds within their region of the galaxy with little competition aside from other species still genetically similar enough to them to be seamlessly assimilated as Zolians over a couple generations, until eventually only those Post-Sollurians which had diverged enough over hundreds of thousands of years to be fully separate species remained. Eventually, the Qhal-Zol and three other post-Sollurian societies unified under the Galactic Federation within which the Zolians mainly comprised the Qhal-Zolian Collective, which nowadays acts as one of the member-societies of the extant Second Galactic Federation. Most Zolians still reside within the bounds of the Qhal-Zol, though many have also migrated across the Federation and occasionally into other civilizations as well.
