The Union of Sovereign Cooperative Republics, commonly referred to as the USCR or by its former name ARCS, is an expansive interstellar collective spanning across several star systems in the western reaches of Unknown Space in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is officially organised as a federation of 'Cooperative Republics' (or CRs), themselves containing a total of 22 'Cooperative Societies' (CSs), wherein each CS typically represents an inhabited star system. The largest and most populous of these CRs is The Core, containing approximately 30% of the state's population. Each Cooperative Republic has nominally limited autonomy though, in practice, much of the nation's government, economy, and foreign policy is centralised through the dual chambers of the United Congress of Cooperative Republics. The USCR is officially a federal democracy under the leadership of the Federal-Sovereign People's Union as a coalition with the Reformed Social Action Party. Its designated capital is New Prosperity, on the planet Kelth. They are a member state of the Confederation of Free Societies.
The USCR is officially the successor state of the Ascendant Republic of Cooperative Societies, inhabiting the same territories as its predecessor. Its territories are incredibly diverse, including over 35 inhabited celestial bodies and containing five sentient 'Core Species', alongside other planetary flora and fauna. These five core species are the: Tir, Kobuns, Rhee, Drapnids, and Thalians. While the population is significantly dominated by the Tir, each of the five core species, as designated by the government, are granted equal rights under USCR Law. Outside of these systems, the nation is one of the most isolated states in the galaxy, with its closest neighbour - not including their Autonomous Republic states - being tens of thousands of lightyears away. Despite this distance, abundance of local resources and events such as the Thalos Wars and Third Great Galactic War have allowed the nation to possess relatively advanced technologies, alongside being capable of medium-range FTL travel.
