Laconia is the capital world of the New Colonies of the Empyrium. It is the northernmost integrated member of the collective, and the only integrated member located in the Outer Rim. A cool, barren planet with little surface water, Laconia is covered in a dense atmosphere that blankets the surface in a thick blue haze. It is heavily mountainous with negligible arable land, and is home to a burgeoning Empyrium colony that was established in 452 CE. Laconia is a system world under direct Imperial rule, whose unyielding authority all but restricts personal and economic freedoms. As such, the planet's inhabitants are functionally destitute, but receive a great deal of care from the Imperial System that manages their lifes, albeit aid is sometimes received from free worlds like Iophiuchi. As a colony world, it was seldom thought about in the wider Empyrium, that was until many Laconians were killed in the Sentor Banquet Incident, which then thrust the young planet into the spotlight.
