FTL Communication refers to the act of sending a communication via specific means in order to convey the information at Faster-Than-Light speeds. Over several years of development among several species, including Humanity, multiple solutions to achieve this have been developed, each one with their advantages and limitations.

Communication Portals

Communication Portals are a more expensive and complicated method of achieving FTL Communication which functions by ripping open a portal with a Pocket-Dimension-Device to a pre-existing pocket dimension localized at another location. Transmissions are sent into the pocket dimension, in which they are received and redirected back out at the localization point. Other than the issue of P.D.Ds being complex to construct, major issues with this method include; the pocket-dimensions they connect to are "localized" at 1 specific point, with greater distances from this point requiring greater energy requirements in order to connect to them. If distances are great enough, ships may only be able to use their Communication Portal systems at rare of special occasions in order to not exhaust their energy supplies.

FTL Couriers

FTL Couriers are small automated pods that have access to some-kind of FTL travel method to transport data. This type of communication is usually the most efficient and affordable for long distances and is therefore often used by exploratory vessel or for communications between star systems.

Intracom Network

See "Intracom Network"

The Intracom Network is the primary method of FTL Communication between Accord Member-Planets, functioning much like a two-tiered internet with both a civil channel and a secure military/government channel. The Intracom Network functions via "Intracom Stations", relay-satellites which are built to intercept and transfer data to planets after intercepting either realspace or subspace transmissions from other stations. Accessing the Intracom Network is possible as long as the ship is near a planet/station which has a connection to the Intracom Network and has a communication device which is compatible with the network.
