Alkid is a planet-sized terrestrial moon orbiting the gas giant Alpheus in the Empyrium System. It is a barren world covered in deserts and mesas, and is uninhabitable outside of the numerous shielded environments present on the surface and underground. Alkid is considered to be the homeworld of the Empyrean species, but is actually a first-generation colony world - their original homeworld having been all but forgotten with conflicting accounts. It is the de jure capital of the Empyrium, being the operating base of the Imperial Authority and more importantly, the Emperor. As a result, it holds hegemony over all Imperial Systems, whereas its importance is reduced to a ceremonial role within free systems, who look more towards San as the functioning capital.
