Centuria (natively known as Rcerax Cmanis) is a moon of the planet Rcerax orbiting the Astathea Singularity, within the Mid Rim regions of the Empyrium. It is tidally locked to its gas giant companion, and is close enough to have been tidally-heated to the point that it is considered a Yatalike planetary body. In a system with no natural light - the former star having collapsed into a black hole billions of years ago - this is exceptionally rare, and perhaps unique. The planet has a dense, breathable atmosphere with a somewhat anomalous greenhouse effect that maintains a quasi-stable temperature. Artificial light can be found on the surface in the form of dim lava flows caused by the tidal stress of Rcerax, which has been engineered to be systematically distributed through underground canals across the whole moon.

Despite the obvious challenges of a plantless, lightless world, the native Cmanix species (a vaguely humanoid arachnid species) flourished and constructed an advanced (and eventually space-faring) civilisation. Records of their history seem to indicate a local hegemony in the northwest of the Milky Way some couple million of years ago. Nowadays, they only reside on Centuria, which they call Rcerax Cmanis, where they live side by side with the Empyreans.
