Dictator Esko Laine of Kalevala died from unknown causees, leading to a council of high-ranking officials of the ruling Kalevian-Ugric People's Party seizing power as an interim administration until the party radical Ilmari Toivonen was appointed as the next pharaoh. This proved to be incredibly controversial among liberals and leftists, leading to the Kalevian Centre Party organizing moderate military figures to launch a coup which installed Katja Volotinen as the interim president of the Seventh Republic of Kalevala, though Ilmari had managed to escape and organize a rival government in Muurmanni during this. Taking advantage of the chaos, the Kalevian Social Democratic Party, Kalevian Left Alliance, and Finnic Communistic Party formed the Kalevian Worker's Republic in the southeast.
The Pharaonate held the initial advantage, pushing back its two enemies rather relentlessly.
