The Galactic Community is an interstellar political and military alliance between several spacefaring civilisations within the Milky Way Galaxy, together making up a significant portion (if not a outright majority) of the Galaxy's population. The Galactic Community's primary duties are to mediate disputes between star systems, civilizations, and cultures, to promote and protect trade between nations, to protect and care for the sapients of the Milky Way galaxy, and to provide mutual defence in face of threats to the members of the community, and the Galaxy as a whole.
The Galactic Community is lead by the 'Galactic Speaker', whom is elected via a vote within the Galactic Council from amongst its delegates. The Speaker has authority over the Galactic Community, and is thus granted the powers to call for special sessions, the power to open, close, and moderate debates in the Galactic Council, and to organize a military response from the Intergalactic Defence Initiative, the military arm of the Galactic Community. The Galactic Council is the legislative body of the Galactic Community made up of hundreds of representatives, each of whom represent the nations nations and self-governing polities[1] within the Galactic Community. These representatives are appointed to their position via whatever means each member state deems fit. The Galactic Council convenes on a regular basis, although most sessions are not scheduled in advance, instead being called on during emergencies among member states.
In reality, the Galactic Community's various resolutions and agreements are typically unenforced within its member-states as opting out of unfavourable agreements isn't exactly uncommon, though it is largely seen as common courtesy to abide by the stipulations of the Community, especially calls for collective defence. the Galactic Community is generally regarded to have a positive influence on the galaxy by promoting diplomacy and cooperation between the various civilisations of the Milky Way Galaxy, significantly minimizing conflicts within the regions it has a presence ever since its formation.
The "Intergalactic Defence Initiative" is the military arm of the Galactic Community, which if 'activated' by the Galactic Council, immediately reorganizes the Galactic Community into a pan-galactic military command based on Aiur whose primary purpose is to protect the Community's Members, and possibly the galaxy as a whole, from whatever threat has been designated as an immediate threat to the Community and beyond
