Althani is a planet located in the Center Rim, within the Empyrium. It is the only inhabited world in the Occludis Minor system, orbiting far from its bright but cold star. The planet is breathable and hosts a vast liquid water ocean, but its incredibly cold temperatures mean it is all but uninhabitable. Many people do live on Althani, however all settlements exist within biodomes akin to ones found on Alkid - granted, they function like greenhouses, rather than purely as pockets of breathable air. Its unforgiving climate, close proximity to Empyrium Border Force garrisons, and relative isolation as a planet led the Empyrium to construct a gargantuan maximum security prison there. Known officially as the Althani Penitentiary, the complex's operation is by far the planet's largest employer. As such, it is a dominant force on Althanian culture and society, to the point that the rich and famous of the Empyrium nearly exclusively employ their bodyguards from Althani.

Althani hangs on the borderline of what is deemed semi-habitable and uninhabitable. It is a peculiar case where a definitely uninhabitable planet fulfills four out of the six criteria to be classed as Yatalike, falling short due to its lack of vegetation and its positioning outside of the habitable zone. However, it is not uninhabitable to all life. Althani is a particularly tectonically active planet, and geysers are commonplace both in the oceans and on the surface, which have given rise to the popular geothermal lagoons - one of the only places where people can somewhat comfortably be outside. Furthermore, extremophile life is known to have developed within these conditions.
