Angels, also known as Greater Spirits or various other names, are a collection of intelligent metaphysical entities native to the Spectrosphere's Median Space, a fractal-like aggregation of numerous astral planes with a fluid enough reality to be (un)consciously manipulated and shaped by their occupants. Physically, Angels may take many forms but often possess many consistencies, such as appearing to be composed of something similar to shattered glass, having wings, and a halo while their body itself varies more drastically shape wise. Due to the nature of the reality they inhabit, Angels possess a degree of reality-manipulating capabilities which persists into other worlds (to a more limited degree) if they decide to open gateways to locations beyond the Spectrosphere, though this is rarely done aside from locations individuals hold with enough personal significance.
Angels are both sexless and do not sexually reproduce, instead creating new Angels via fragmentation if a living Angel is damaged enough to have parts of themselves break off, with both the original and the broken off copy regenerating into a fully grown instance. Alongside this method, individual non-Angels may be selected by Angels to be ascended into becoming one of them (most commonly deceased Deities, but many individuals within Afterlives or even more rarely living individuals have undergone the process) via intentional fragmentation, though this leads to the incorporation of Angelic mannerisms and social structures at the expense of altering one's original behaviours. Rarely, Angles may break away from their expected social/behavioural structure and either remain intact and righteous or devolve into either a Lesser Spirit or a Demon.
Social Structure
Angels act as the custodians of the Median Space they inhabit, maintaining its integrity alongside either preserving its planes in their natural state or molding them into intricate fractal-like constructs/habitats to serve as 'colonies' to inhabit made possible despite the Median Space's instability thanks to them possessing superorganism-like social structure. While each individual Angel is its own being with notable intelligence onto themselves, they naturally communicate and organize collectively as they work in concert with the 'desires' of all Angels as a whole via emergent behaviours (as while the actions of individual Angels are fairly simple, their actions produce sophisticated wide-reaching results due to many individuals naturally participating in similar patterns), though despite this Angels are not traditionally 'Hiveminded' in the sense of possessing a shared 'group mind' aside from having vague some sense of awareness regarding knowledge possessed by fellow Angels.
The motivations and behaviours of Angels are often unpredictable and difficult to ascertain as they appear to innately bound by a set of occasionally changing arbitrary parameters detailing how they respond to external stimuli, behaving in a calculated and perfectionist manner which may appear as if they were 'programmed' to act a certain way despite being non-artificial and capable of individual thought or action despite often finding it distressing to be. Angels, despite being naturally protective, avoid coexistence with most other lifeforms, either containing them within separated environments aside for maintenance by Angels or returning them from whence they came, though some of course do not abide by this rule.
Types of Angels
While Angels primarily inhabit the Spectrosphere (particularly the Median Space) where they reside densely enough to share a degree of uniformity, Angels do occasionally venture into external regions in proximate dimensions or sacred worlds, with notable locations being the Liminal Space of 'Heaven', and spiritual planets such as Skantos.
- Medians: The most common and standard group of Angels, which the rest of the page documents extensively.
- Nuntius: Inhuman Angels covered in rings and eyes rather than any recognisable form which inhabit Liminal Heaven.
- Skantoan Angels: Humanoid Angels rarely seen and particularly difficult to notice due to their translucent forms, but do appear during times of catastrophe on Skantos.
- Ultor: Humanoid Angels inhabiting Liminal Heaven which hold trumpets, blowing into them when Humans catch their attention in order to kill them.
