Synthetic Beings, also known as Synths are artificial biomechanical entities specifically designed to be as Human[1] as possible rather than being visibly robotic, often being visually nearly indistinguishable from ordinary Humans (exterior-wise) aside from design features. Synths were first developed by the Yatan National Front in the early 300s as the 'next best thing' after failing to acquire Mei'ra's cloning technologies, gradually managing to advance the technology over a century until their holdings in the north of the Milky Way were captured by the Yatan-Theian Accord, allowing them to co-opt the technology. Synths are typically designed to supplement human labour in areas with shortages or to achieve tasks that Humans are typically unable of achieving without incredible effort, largely being seen as a much more cost-effective solution in comparison to how expensive cloning can be with less complications. These tasks include the likes of industrial/construction work, intelligence-gathering, mimicking individuals, serving as soldiers, various kinds of service or social work, and much more. Most (high-quality) Synths are built by one of two companies, 'Danor Synthworks' based in the Danor Republic or 'Skurial Synthworks' based in the Federalized Sectors, with no other company being nearly as influential as these two thanks to their intricacy and expertise when it comes to building their 'products', thus the rest of this article will largely describe DSW/SSW-produced Synths.
Synths are fully intelligent beings, exhibiting sentience and usually sapience even if verifying if artificial beings are truly 'conscious' is a controversial subject. Each Synth contains a 'Encephalon Intelligence System' (EIS), which functions as their 'brain' hardware & software, which contains an artificial-intelligence construct known as a 'template' derived from somewhat-altered brain-scans of volunteering Humans (many templates are composed of multiple combined brainscans, and avoid transferring over memories aside from personalities and skillsets) in order to ensure that Synths' minds are as complex and as human-like as actual Humans. EIS are designed to be largely self-enclosed rather than being to connected into any network, with the most 'networked' capability they possess being the ability to remotely receive orders without needing a communication device. Thanks to being derived from brainscans, Synths are behaviour wise fairly identical to ordinary Humans, though despite being able to simulate emotions they tend to be quite non-expressive unless if their tasks require them to.
Structure-wise, Synths have reinforced artificial-skin covering a hydrogel layer attached to a outer shell surrounding a metallic or carbon-fibre based internal frame supporting their structure and protecting their internal components which are themselves surrounded by an insulating hydrogel-substance designed to prevent impact damage, though even if damaged Synths are designed to be fairly easily repairable via modular/replacement parts, with only the EIS typically requiring servicing by DSW/SSW alongside certain more intricate components, which may cause faults if assembled carelessly.
- ↑ Synths designed after other living beings is of course possible, but most known Synths are based off of Humans.
