Asolab, officially The Joint Asophanian-Denasolin-Islandian Research and Development Facility (abbreviated as JADIRAD) and formerly known as the Yetian Antarctic Research Facility (YARS) is a research institute and power plant located southeast of the Antarctic peninsula in Denasola (a member-republic of the Confederation of Yata) under the autonomous authority of Asophania. Originally a Yetian institute, the facility became jointly-owned by the nations of Asophania, Denasola and Islandia under the JADIRAD institute and administered by a board that also ran TERAPRO prior to the two facilities being nationalised under the Yatan-Theian Federation's Department of Scientific Research, later being placed as associates of the Yatan-Theian Accord's Scientific Research Division.
Unlike TERAPRO, Asolab is first and foremost a facility for research and development - there is little regard for the hostile conditions in the area (although safety precautions are indeed considered.) Despite this, there is a prototype nuclear fusion reactor located 1km beneath the facility known as the New Safe Fusion complex, which periodically produces a power surplus for Denasola. Over its lifetime, the facility has seen many periods of deprecation due to the hostile and sometimes unstable environment surrounding it (being located in two ice caves.)
History
Asolab began as the YARS facility in 19 CE. Asolab in its modern iteration was conceived in the year 96 CE, concurrent with the establishment of Asophania as a scientocratic republic a year prior. Following a severe containment breach four years later, Asophania as a state was condensed into the Ministry of Science under a new republic - Denasola - now under civil rule. Since then, Asolab has operated extrajudicially from Denasola, however its global significance and its status as a hub for employment meant that the civil affairs of Denasola were very much intertwined with that of Asophania's scientocratic administration.
Roughly twenty years after the establishment of the partnered TERAPRO facility on the planet Theia, Asolab began to experience neglect from the administration. Following an anomalous incident concerning Asolab's main reactor, the climate control system experienced a malfunction. Initially, this only affected Asolab, but since the Denasolin capital of New South City depended on Asolab's power production for climate control, it followed suit. Whereas the reactor core was experiencing a meltdown, the rest of the facility suffered a cataclysmic freezedown. This irreparably damaged the ice caves in which the facility was held, leading to severe structural collapse in much of the facilty. For the next two centuries, Asolab fell into disrepair, its employees having migrated to either TERAPRO or the Californian-owned Narakam facilities, such as Vannakaram.
Following a series of events at TERAPRO, there was renewed interest in the restoration of the Asolab facilities, however this was not acted on for many decades. Reconstruction did not begin until the year 346 CE. Reconstruction efforts completely restored the original facility to modern standards, repairing the damage to the surrounding caves. Furthermore, two completely new sections were constructed - the lower supercomplex and the New Safe Fusion complex.
In 472 CE Asolab was 'nationalised' by the Yatan-Theian Federation and placed under the guidance of the Department of Scientific Research in order coordinate the efforts of all major scientific institutes to benefit the Federation. After the Federation's collapse and reorganization as Federalized territories of the Yatan-Theian Accord, Asolab remained under the new 'Scientific Research Division' albeit with much more autonomy than it did previously under the Federation.
Sectors
Sector A - Computational Science, Auxiliary Power

Sector A is responsible for the facility's computational needs, necessary for everyday administration as well as technological innovation. Adjacent to the offices are the facility's auxiliary power generators, operated with geothermal energy.
Sector B - Teleportation Technology

Sector B (formerly known as Sector N) is responsible for the oversight of teleportation technology, research, and development. In its previous iteration, the Sector B scientists made history as the first to successfully achieve a direct teleport (dimensional relay teleportation had been discovered slightly earlier.) Their flagship project is the Direct Transphysical Translocation Machine, Mk. II, which is used to regularly transport personnel between Asolab and TERAPRO. The "prototype" Mk. I device is situated adjacent to the newer device in the walls of the cave, but the area has been vitrified.

Sector C - New Safe Fusion
The New Safe Fusion reactor, unlike previous iterations of an Asolab reactor, solely powers the energy-intensive demands of the modern facility, and not Denasola. The reactor was developed in response to concerns about a meltdown, which has been circumvented through the implementation of fusion, rather than fission, technology.
Sector D - Offices
The offices of Asolab are partly responsible for the facility's day-to-day administrative functions, including communications with the wider world.
Sector F - Biodome Complex
The biodomes are located below the main facility and are used to grow crops within a controlled environment. Given the facility's depth, the sector is also used periodically for recreational activities and Vitamin D intake.
Sector Z - Dimensional Technology
This sector is home to Asolab’s next generation teleport. The PGQTD (Prototype Genian Quantum Tunnelling Device) is a quantum seeker-interpolator teleport based off of the similar device found aboard the Mandragora, the plans of which were gifted to Asophanian researchers following the ships disappearance into the Empyrium.
