Research Study: "Post-mortem Metaphysical Realms"

This Research Study has been produced by the Asophanian Department of Metaphysical Studies.

Section 1: "Research"

For eons humankind has questioned the possibility of life after death, be it a paradise, perdition, limbo or something completely different. While this is typically associated with religious or spiritual practice, the Department of Metaphysical Studies in the JADIRAD Facility has reviewed historical instances of contact with the beyond and conducted its own personal attempts at post-mortem contact, and has come to the conclusion that there truly is an existence beyond death.

Section 2: "What is the afterlife?"

The Afterlife is composed of various possible realms the "soul" of an individual inhabits after death. This continued existence may either be as a disembodied consciousness in an astral realm, reincarnation, eternal paradise, being damned to perdition, limbo, or somewhere in-between.

The realms of the Afterlife are typically less stable than baseline reality, having an ARS rating of 73ξ

Section 3: "Different Afterlives"

Following is a list of documented afterlives ordered from "paradise" to "perdition", with "limbo"-like afterlives situated between the two extremes:

Lingering Sometimes beings who die continue to linger within corporeal reality as a disembodied spirit. This may occur due to various reasons, be it chance, revenge for an unjustified death or unfinished business, or they may be intentionally summoned via necromancy or séance.

Realm of the Forgotten The Realm of the Forgotten is a realm of the Afterlife that takes the form of a vast dark labyrinth with various large and small rooms, with some of them containing "forgotten" structures. It is currently the most well documented afterlife, as it is the one of few from which beings have successfully been returned from. The realm has some-form of day-night cycle, despite the perpetual darkness, as during "night" various Demonic Entities emerge within the realm whom feed on Insomnia.

Forest of Decay The Forest of Decay is a mysterious realm of the afterlife, of which no inhabitants are known. The Forest of Decay, as may be inferred by its name, houses a vast pine forest landscape with several rivers. The only exploration of the Forest of Decay has ever been done via astral projection, which is often unsafe when relating to the Forest, as all visitors have felt a feeling of decay often eventually becomes lethal.

Hell Hell is a realm of the Afterlife characterised by punitive suffering including eternal torture and punishment after death. A soul's time in hell is judged based on their actions during their lifetime, where as some souls are allowed to enter a more favourable afterlife after their sentence is complete, this is often not the case. Appearance wise hell is a terrifying fiery abyss inhabited by demons.

Spirits

Spirits are deceased beings whose soul still lingers in the "living world".

Deceased Beings

In most cases when a living thing does, its soul / identity remains intact, and is moved to a realm of the afterlife. In some realms this may be as a disembodied consciousness, while they inhabit a copy of their original body.

These beings cannot die, as they are already dead. Any damage sustained to their form will regenerate shortly after it occurs. Additionally natural urges such as hunger, thirst, or being tired do not occur within Afterlives.

Organic matter cannot exit afterlives, so despite the existence of a gateway out of a afterlife deceased beings cannot leave.

Section 4.2 "Native beings"

Demons

A Demon is an entity which typically inhabits more perdition-based afterlives. They may resemble both typical supernatural spirits and the typical abrahamic depiction of them, as well as other mythological demonic beings. Demons vary widely from incorporeal to corporeal, from benevolent to malicious, and harmless to dangerous.
