Black Opal's birth date is unknown, and is thought to be pre-eminent. Alongside Voidite and Samnsonite, he is a unique gem, although he is a fusion of an Opal and an Obsidian. Under his rule, Kaphisian society was sealed off from the rest of [[Theia]] by a barrier held together through the manipulation of Voidite's resources and Samnsonite's powers. This allowed the Kaphi to flourish even during the [[Theian Cataclysm]]. When [[the Insurgency]] occured on [[Yata]], Black Opal devised a plan to establish a colony on the war-torn, (and at the time) abandoned planet, but a catastrophic crash in Nuan Krovh sent him to the [[Realm of the Forgotten]] on the brink of death, shattering his soul in the process. He recuperated quickly, but the incident left severe mental trauma that further exacerbated his delusions of grandeur, tendency to pathologically lie, and plunged Kaphi into disarray on his eventual return.
