Sapience is the total culmination of a series of traits present within a species that includes the likes of self-awareness, abstract thinking, higher reasoning, possessing a personality as well as thinking intelligently. Species which do not possess these traits or only possess them to a limited degree are known as "Non-Sapient Species", although many of them can still be considered Sentient.
