Sentience, also known as Sapience, is the total culmination of a series of traits present within a species that includes the likes of self-awareness, abstract thinking, higher reasoning, possessing a personality, and feeling emotionally as well as thinking intelligently. Species that possess some of, but not all, of these traits are referred to as 'Semi-Sentient Species'.
