Andrei Ferenc Varady (born April 25th, 179 CE) is a Rumynski civil servant and vigilante who was, alongside his friend, lover and later husband Cormac Varady, an instrumental courier that delivered the hidden paralysing genome as well as the Omnistat plans to Theia, effectively ending the Insurgency. Through his allyship and friendship with the late Aldren II Tremar, he has since grown immense loyalty of House Tremar, and by extension the states of Mylonagrad and East Tritonia, becoming a symbol of freedom and democracy across the world.

However, his circumstances in the multiverse are an enigma. In other universes, Andrei became the entity known as Sanmor, and travels back in time to hijack Nihilantis and caause the Theian Cataclysm. However, Andrei’s wilfulness prevents him from turning into Sanmor in the present timeline, thus becoming a singular anomaly in the multiverse. Sanmor realised this was the reason he could not reach full power.

Following the Annihilation, Andrei was captured by the SDS as one of the first test subjects of the digiverse. The required surgery prolonged his life indefinitely.

The Insurgency

For Andrei’s 21st birthday, Cormac bought two tickets to travel the Trans-Siberian railway, better known as the North Route, as a present. However, as the train was passing through the suburbs of Palladia, Futurist Yetia declared war on its neighbours, starting the world war that was the precursor to The Insurgency. As a result, the train was stopped and all passengers locked on board as prisoners of war; many historians suggest this was a plan to hold them as ransom. However, 2 weeks after the train was stopped, Palladia was invaded by the advancing Yomtach insurgents. The pair then escaped the train, hiding from the Insurgents by taking refuge in an abandoned train yard.

Another month passed before the pair made their next move; stealing a train from the trainyard and intending to reach a supposed safe haven in Antarctica via the Americas. This meant having to ride the train to Perezatski, then to San Diego, before making the rest of the journey on foot, then across the frozen Drake Passage to Pandaland. This plan would later be abandoned. On their way, they stopped in Zaporozhye for supplies, notably encountering many hordes of Yomtachs. They then devised a plan to steal a plane from Tritoniyagrad Airport, but before they could finalise this, their train crashed at the Mephisinia Shipyards, almost killing Andrei.

Barely escaping the train wreck, Cormac carried Andrei inside the gargantuan spaceship works, where, to his relief, found that Andrei only had blunt injuries. It was around this time the two started developing feelings for each other, especially perpetuated by Cormac saving Andrei's life, as he would have certainly burnt to death in the spreading fires after the crash. They slept the night under the stars, but were awoken in the morning by huge pink lasers streaking across the sky. The pair deduced that this was Asophania trying to re-establish contact with the Theians. Searching for the shipyard's train docks, they stumbled across one of the hangars where the evacuation ships were built, and here they encountered a mechanised killing machine that almost killed Cormac. However, Cormac was saved by a mysterious entity, who they named "The Girl," and the three escaped the shipyards together.

Continuing on the train line, Andrei and Cormac discovered the true nature behind "The Girl," being a pre-eminent being with limitless power, but was ultimately siphoned of her powers following an incident where she marched a Nihilist army over Yetia while under Nihilantis' influence. Reaching Tritoniyagrad, they found that The Citadel, the tallest building in the city, was emitting strange brown clouds that spread across the sky for hundreds of miles. Periodic earthquakes then confirmed the worst - it's core was melting down. They got off the train near the airport and made haste towards it, discovering a plane which opened up for them. The pilot was still alive, and he revealed himself to be the King of Tritonia, Aldren II Tremar. The trio then joined him on his mission to destroy the engines producing the aforementioned pink lazers, which were not communication signals as previously thought, but were the transmissions keeping Asophania locked away and inaccessible to humans. The plane took off, bound for Nuan Krovh, and after they left, in a video transmission that was one of the only ones to reach Theia, the Citadel exploded catastrophically, destroying Yomtachia as a nation.

Blue Engine; and the Gems

Andrei, Cormac and the Girl parachuted into Trondheim, in Nuan Krovh (nowadays Svealand,) which was deserted by the Yomtachs. They were given the task to destroy the blue engine, a tower stretching over a kilometre tall, but also leaning at a 20 degree angle over the bay. While heading towards the tower, they encountered Lapis Lazuli, a Kaphisian separated from her comrades after their ship crashed. With the aid of Lazuli's intelligence, they were able to topple the tower by derailing a tram into it's unstable, rotting supports. The destruction of the blue engine meant that the Yomtach command was alerted to their efforts, and sent out hordes to their position.

While heading to the rendezvous point, they spotted a wildfire ravaging the forest surrounding Trondheim. Running through it, they heard screaming in the distance, and later found Emerald, (as Ruby and Slade had fused to escape the forest fire.) The group narrowly escaped burning to death by leaping off a cliff into the deep fjord below. They then found a large rowing boat, which they used to row down the fjord towards the rendezvous point.

They got off the boat, and started running up the hill to the airstrip where Aldren was waiting with the jet. But as they approached it, the plane's engines began to throttle up and the plane began a slow takeoff roll. The group turned around to see a Yomtach horde chasing them down the runway, and that Aldren was taking off because they would otherwise have been caught. One by one, the group managed to clamber onto the ramp, but a fusion-sick Emerald almost didn't make it, with the group forming a chain to grab him as the plane accelerated. He managed to get onto the plane in the nick of time, and the ramp closed and the plane took off.

As the group slept in the cabin, Andrei and Aldren planned their next move. Discussing the assault on the red engine, the two began a close friendship which would last after Aldren's untimely death in the future, with Andrei growing an immense loyalty to House Tremar and to Mylonagrad, despite being Palladian born and raised, and also despite House Tremar severing any ties it had left with it's homeland.

Red Engine, Black Engine; and Carbonado

Although security presence was increased after the assault on the blue engine, the group found it very easy to sneak into the red engine, located in Aparty, and initiate the self-destruct, and they made a quick and easy exit afterwards. Once at the Black Engine, using Lazuli's intuition, they planned to shoot a zipline across to the tower that took them over the military base below it. They deduced that, although they would be seen, they could clear any attention once inside. The Girl used her powers to create the zipline, passing out in the process having used her energy, so Emerald took her back to the plane, leaving Andrei, Cormac and Lazuli to take down the black engine by themselves.

As they rode the zipline, the end they were going to snapped, and they fell short of their target, leaving them dangled over an extremely deep pit where the tower was burrowed. (Lazuli stated it was 854 metres exactly.) The sheer weight of the wire then began to pull them over the edge back outside, and as Lazuli was the last to ride, she was the first to be pulled over the slope. However, when Andrei called out to her, he received no response, as shortly unbeknownst to them, Lazuli had been taken away in a ship and delivered to the pink engine. Andrei then thought what Lazuli would do in this situation, and thought that there would be water at the bottom as it was an open pit. With no other option, they both jumped down the pit, and indeed, landed in water. They then took the elevator to the top floor as per usual.

When it reached the top floor, they opened the door to see no Yomtachs, but instead they saw Black Opal, leader of the Kaphi'si, and Carbonado. Carbonado and a reluctant Black Opal introduced themselves, telling the duo that they are searching for two missing gems, Lapis Lazuli and Slade (unbeknownst to them, Slade had fused with Ruby.) As they were about to be interrogated on their whereabouts, Yomtachs broke into the room, and so Carbonado, Andrei and Cormac went upstairs to the upper control room while Black Opal fought off any intruders. With Black Opal gone, Carbonado pleads to join them, to escape Black Opal and to reunite with his comrades. Andrei and Cormac reluctantly agree to trust him, but as they plan their next move, they are interrupted by the intercom detailing the transfer of cargo to Pink Engine. Confused to this, and to why the shadow of the tower over the steppe had doubled in size, he presses the self-destruct but is faced by an in-effect admin override. Carbonado deduces that Pink Engine had docked to Black Engine to transfer Lazuli into the brig. Aldren patches into their conversation, and instructs Carbonado to head to the roof, where the data links would have extended out from each tower to attach in the middle, intending for him to cut the admin override cable manually.

Aldren, Andrei and Cormac then nervously watched as Carbonado crossed the catwalk to the middle of the data link, having many near-death moments as the catwalk collapsed beneath his feet. However, he succesfully manages to cut the admin link, and the commands go through uninterrupted. The self destruct is initiated, and the trio descend the tower and run back to the plane as it explodes, leaving Carbonado and Emerald to reunite. The plane takes off, and makes course for Siberia. Andrei and Aldren discuss their next move, outlining that to rescue Lazuli they must first destroy both the green and the purple engines before gaining access to the pink engine.

As they slept, Emerald woke up to see a huge train travelling below them as they flew over the Trans-Siberian. Suddenly, a bright light blinds him and the plane's roof rips off, causing it to spiral down to the ground and crash onto the train line. Everyone survived, but Andrei and Carbonado were left unconscious and hidden under rubble. Emerald noticed that the train was still moving, and that Yomtach chants were echoing from it, and they had to quickly locate Andrei and Carbonado, carrying their bodies into the forest. In the nick of time, the group escaped the wreckage as the train smashed into it, derailing. They had to hide in the forest as many armed Yomtachs survived the plane crash, but they managed to evade it altogether, carrying Andrei and Carbonado down the train line towards Irkutsk.

Green and Purple Engine; and Jimmy and Eldric

Green engine was left unguarded for an undisclosed reason, and the group entered and reached the top without any obstacles. However, a surprise attack from the purple engine occured, and green engine entered lockdown. Suddenly, a vent on the ceiling blew open, and out climbed Jimmy Navarro and Eldric de Laitinie, who joined the group on their mission. The two had planted bombs on the bridge link between the towers, and by the press of a button the connection was severed. Attempting to press the self destruct button, Andrei found that no matter how hard they tried, they could not self-destruct until well clear of purple engine. In frustration, Emerald managed to engage the flight mode of the green engine, turning it into a versatile, albeit huge, spacecraft. They then flew away from purple engine, however the engine began to chase them.

Landing a few hundred kilometres away in the snowy wilderness of Siberia, Aldren devised a plan to destroy both towers at once by disguising a self-destruct sequence as a distress signal. Green engine began it's self-destruct, and while the group ran away, the purple engine docked to the green engine and received the "distress signal." Both engines exploded climatically, which unbeknownst to them signalled pink engine to their position, so before the group could reconsolidate, the pink engine arrived.

Destroying Pink Engine; and Alana and Samuel

The pink engine remained as the only engine holding the Asophanian shield together, however it came with a large military presence, and as such posed a huge threat to the group. When the pink engine detected their presence, they were targeted with a barrage of missiles and rockets, and they quickly ran to get inside. The group had to fight through many battalions of yomtachs before reaching the entrance, but managed to get in relatively unscathed. However, as soon as reaching safety inside, the tower fired a huge pink laser from it's spire, and Aldren deduced this was a distress signal to Sooz Prime requesting yomtach reinforcements. The group split, with Emerald, Carbonado and Cormac to head to the tower's "lid" to close off the laser, while Andrei and Aldren would head to the brig to rescue Lazuli.

The elevator reached the brig to no yomtach presence, but as Andrei and Aldren walked down the corridor, yomtach troops began bursting out the doors either side of them. Fighting off the presence, they were soon knocked to the ground by a huge rumble. Aldren realised something had gone wrong upstairs, and that the tower was already capping, stressing them for time. They reached the brig, and soon extracted Lazuli, and Andrei took her in his arms. Andrei then spotted a spaceship hovering outside the window on the other side of the building and saw that it was the rest of the group, and he tugged Aldren with the intent to leave. However, Aldren noticed something on the console, and was increasingly adamant to leave. Andrei then spots the laser moving, and to his shock, the laser was being deflected, and was on course to burn right through the tower, obliterating everything in it's path. Andrei shouted at Aldren, and began to back away, yet Aldren insisted there was still time to extract one last person, Alana Csabay. Andrei watched as Aldren was completely eviscerated as the laser began to destroy the tower. Feeling increasingly faint, Andrei began to run towards the ship as Cormac cheered him on, jumping on at the last second as the ship pulled away, saving himself and Lazuli.

Finding Antarctica Deserted

However, contrary to what the group expected, when the ship arrived at Asophania they were surprised to see that the base was left in automatic control - meaning everyone had left. While Carbonado went to disable the shield network around Yata, Andrei and Cormac headed to the communications centre to try and contact Theia to inform them of their success in disabling the shield from the inside, and thus opening the path to recolonisation. After realising Theia was still out of contact, Andrei noticed another available frequency, and inadvertently contacted humans in the Backrooms from 50 years ago. In the main timeline, Andrei and Cormac would have warned humanity about the impending doom of the Insurgency, however upstairs, Carbonado suddenly realised that it would create a temporal paradox.

Andrei heard a knock on the door, which was Carbonado. Carbonado told him quietly to "not say anything." With the paradox averted, and the humans left frustrated, the call was terminated, and the group got back onto the ship and departed for Theia. While they rode on the ship, however, Andrei began to feel dizzy, and soon enough he blacked out completely.

When Day Breaks

However, Andrei was not dead, but was clinically dead for a short while under suspicious circumstances. He was taken to TERAPRO and put in the medical wing where he was revived. Ecstatic to be alive again, he proposed to Cormac, who agreed instantly. The two were left alone in the hospital room to comfort each other, but they were interrupted by the intercom announcing that a meteor had struck Theia, and that the base would be placed on indefinite lockdown. The situation began to accelerate after it was confirmed among high-level staff that SDS-001 had breached containment, and until that could be resolved there was no leaving TERAPRO.

During most of the time stuck in TERAPRO, Andrei was bound to his bed for some reason, tangled in many wires presumably to extract the void energy, or that was what he originally thought. After Nadia, Isaac and Oliver successfully managed to restart the reactor to put the rogue GILbERT back into low power mode, Cormac and Ruby suddenly left Andrei's hospital room as a total evacuation to the lithium mines was called. Realising the magnitude of the situation, Andrei tried to wriggle free from the tangled mess of wires. He managed to stand up, and looked in a mirror to see that all the wires were feeding into his back. Smashing the mirror, he used a shard to look at his back, and nearly fainted at the sight of a huge electrical wire directly anchored to his spine. Realising he'd bleed to death if he ripped it out, he took a scalpel to cut the wire off at the plug, giving him a huge electric shock. He then balanced the oxygen tank on his back and wrapped the electric wire around it to strap it to his back. He then donned the oxygen mask and headed out of the room.

Wandering through the facility, he noticed the lights flickering, and he deduced that the facility was on emergency power. He then made the dangerous decision to head to the fusion reactor to restart it himself. Unknown to him, his blood was saturated with battery acid, and it was corrupting his thinking. Nonetheless, he headed down to the fusion reactor and donned a hazmat suit, but just as the blast doors closed to decontaminate him, he saw Nadia running towards him pleading for him not to go in. He entered the fusion reactor chamber, immediately feeling the burn of the radiation. He pushed on, crossing with the moving platform to the superstructure where he headed to the fuel cells. He saw that they were half-ejected, and thus he needed to manually push them in with his hands. Doing so immediately burned his hands, and almost instantly poisoning him with radiation. As he moved to each fuel cell, his condition worsened, until he collapsed after injecting the third fuel cell, luckily Nadia had arrived just in time to carry him back to the hospital, where he was put in a coma by the three.

The True Situation

Andrei was awoken by Cormac and Ruby, who told him that GILbERT was taken off of low-power mode which caused an uprising, after people had to fight over gas masks when the facility began to flood with neurotoxin. Nadia, Isaac, Oliver, Cormac, The Girl, Ruby and Andrei got together, and planned to escape TERAPRO by using Asophania's personal spacecraft. The next day, Oliver brought HAZMAT suits and the group set off to the hangar. Getting into the ship, and opening the hangar doors, they saw blood-red sunlight pour in, which burned their skin when it shone on them. Having not been told by those in charge at all, the group realised that this was why they could not leave TERAPRO. Following a short jump to hyperspace, they saw the whole planet covered in red light, while Theia's moon Doluro was normal. Oliver noted that this was a situation for the SDS, so the group headed back to the recolonised Yata to the country Alyphia, where they would appeal to the SDS for help.

Arriving in the wintry forests of Alyphia, they entered a dilapidated hangar where the base was meant to be. The Girl suddenly realised where they were, and made a run for the ship, but the warehouse door closed on them. The warehouse was in fact a trap to recapture The Girl, as she was in fact SDS-006. However, the girl managed to use her powers to get everyone inside the facility, avoiding capture.

The Mask

While navigating the facility, the group accidentally tripped the security system, flooding it with noxious gases and activating turrets, leading them to blindly escape to a vitrified room. In the darkness, they heard an unzipping sound, followed by a shriek. Turning on the lights, they a peculiar mask, which, unbeknownst to them, Isaac was suddenly drawn to. Rolling his body over on the floor revealed that in the darkness he had put the mask on, instantly killing him. Despite their imminent mission success, this was a major turning point for the group. A distraught Nadia began to try and put on the mask herself, but the group is interrupted by a huge rumble and a message that SDS-003 is breaching containment, despite its whereabouts having confirmed to be deep in the Pacific Ocean. The group letft in a hurry, leaving the Isaac’s body behind.

Entering another room, they find the girl’s childhood friend, a sentient computer called SDS-018. The group began to learn more about her past, and she suddenly remembered about the siphon controlling her powers. The girl devised a plan to destroy the siphon, saying that her full powers may be enough to reverse the Daybreak. 018 joined the group through the means of smart glasses, and the group proceeded to enter the elevator shaft to the siphon.

Reversing SDS-001

Entering the lower levels of the facility, they were almost immediately detected by security systems, so Andrei and the Girl managed to electrically deadlock both entrances. Investigating the siphon, the group found that the siphon installed to prevent The Girl from using her powers was powered by vast void energy reserves, which were already dwindling, giving her limited powers. They began the self destruct sequence but were soon faced by an onslaught of SDS soldiers. Ultimately, they were successful, releasing her full powers once more.

The group was teleported into deep space above Theia, which still glowed a deep red. Suddenly, they begun to see swirls of cyan rings orbiting the planet, which eventually smothered the whole planet in a cyan fog. As it dissipated, the planet revealed itself once more, rid of the Daybreak. The Girl then revealed her true form as Anahita, before teleporting the group to the main entrance to TERAPRO. She opened the doors, allowing thousands to exit TERAPRO after two years, splitting the group up amongst the crowd. Ecstatic about the resolution, Andrei and Cormac rush inside to pack their things, in anticipation of marrying at last and starting a new life.

The Annihilation

After the Annihilation began, Andrei noticed that he had no ‘wisp’ (a translucent tendril that identified the partner.) In fact, he was the only person not to have one. Due to the way the Annihilation worked, it connected two people of the most opposite value of entropy, of which for Andrei was his corrupt clone from another dimension, Sanmor, who was hidden inside Nihilantis. Genian monks realised that introducing Andrei to outer space could reveal his wisp, thus revealing the location of the hidden Nihilantis, that Gensokyo sought to destroy. Mysteriously, after Izumo was revealed to be co-operating with Gensokyo, the Genian barrier shield rose once more, thus Andrei and Samuel were sent to investigate. However, on the way, Andrei's wisp began growing into the sky, and soon after the train was halted, Gensokyo having discovered their location. Despite resistance, the two were captured and taken aboard the Mandragora, the capital ship of the Genian fleet, which was preparing to jump to hyperspace in the direction of Orion.

Confronting Sanmor

Andrei awoke in a partial stasis, only just remaining conscious but unable to move. His friends were imprisoned behind him, and the ship was headed towards a red star. Eventually, the other ships of the fleet were given the signal to hold back and that only the Mandragora should proceed forward. Communicating with the star, the mysterious geisha heading the fleet flew the ship through an open hole in the star, revealing an inside-out world within. The ship's bridge segment detached further as a shuttle which brought them to the planet's centerpiece - a white city topped by a marble castle. The shuttle landed there, where a young man, identical in figure to Andrei, waited. Andrei was offloaded, and the geisha watched from the door as the two approached each other. It soon came clear that these two were Annihilation partners. The two men glared at each other, and the other, who was Sanmor, revealed himself as Andrei as well, but from another dimension. In fact, he added, Andrei was the only good Andrei to ever sprout from such a timeline deviance, and that he was the only thing stopping him from unleashing his full power on the universe. Sanmor attempted to shoot him many times to kill him, but misses all times, and eventually runs out of bullets. Andrei deduced that this "Andrei" was a future version of himself, Andrei took a pen-knife in his pocket and lacerated his hands, bringing them both to their knees in excruciating pain. Having distracted Sanmor, Andrei lunges himself towards him, giving Sanmor no time to dodge. At first contact, the two annihilated each other, seemingly dying.

Second Death; and finding comfort elsewhere

Andrei soon awoke in a void-like dimension along with Lazuli and Cormac, with Sanmor nowhere to be seen. He and Cormac made little to no contact, unaware of what caused Cormac and Lazuli's annihilation. Although seemingly secluded, Lazuli managed to contact Carbonado, and agreed to put him on speaker. However, Carbonado learnt of the situation, and began verbally assaulting Cormac, causing him to destroy the phone in anger, seemingly cutting off any hopes of contact. Lazuli lashed out at him, claiming that they'll be stuck forever because of him now. Enraged, Cormac claimed that if they were stuck together him and Andrei might as well both die, and so, he forcibly grabbed Andrei and proceeded to drown him, and himself at the same time. Unresponsive, Cormac then began bludgeoning Andrei's head on the fountain cornerstones, killing him almost instantly, and turning the water blood-red, before jumping in the fountain himself. Lazuli, in a last ditch attempt, repelled all the water, exhausting her power, only to find Andrei had died, and Cormac had ran off.

Nonetheless, Andrei awoke in the real world to Carbonado, Isla and Oliver watching over him. Strangely, despite him being alive, his "death echo" is received by Carbonado, and they rewatch his final moments and observe how Cormac also attempted suicide. Distraught over Cormac's change of heart, he rushed out of the room, but not before being followed by Oliver, who extends comfort. Accepting it, the two embrace, before heading back to Andrei’s room.

After a few months dealing with a newfound trauma, he was approached by Tenno, real name Sakamoto Sakura, who asked him to join her on her travels. Still keeping in contact with the SDS, they ran a few errands while on their journey seeking Wisteria, one of which resulted in a skirmish with Carbonado in Denasola.

The Digiverse

Shortly after the incident, Sakura traced Wisteria's location to the nation of Izumo, the guise of the Miyaki Project. The two parted ways, and Andrei returned to Tritonia. Not long after the Miyaki Project was exposed to the world, Andrei was abducted by the SDS and turned over to Carbonado and Isla, and was one of the first test subjects of the Digiverse Project. Sakura had also been captured by Wisteria and was turned over to Carbonado in the hopes that she could mitigate the disastrous Miyaki Project, although they were unaware of each others captivity. He was forced to undergo an early rendition of digiverse longevity surgery, where a digiverse prism was installed in place of his frontal cortex. This had the side effect of preserving his physical form as long as it remained operational, and was essentially immune to ageing. A few years after his disappearance, a whistleblower within the Digiverse project revealed Andrei's captivity, prompting his old friends to lay out an elaborate plan to rescue him.
