The Republic of Izumo, also known as Izumo or Miyaki, was a polity located in southwestern Honshu. It was not a real nation state, but was a conceptualised entity that served as a center for covert mass testing on a population with several major projects such as the Annihilation event and the Miyaki Project (the precursor to the Digiverse) emerging here.
Originally a joint project between the SDS Foundation and the corrupt High Priests of Gensokyo, a huge dome was built around the area to disguise it from the rest of the world while its inhabitants were experimented upon in a newly isolated environment. One of these experiments led to the accidental outbreak of the Annihilation, leading to Gensokyo's withdrawal from the project.
Under the leadership of Isla and Carbonado, the Digiverse was created by harvesting the consciousness and dreams of Izumo's inhabitants, creating procedural "dreamscapes" that were the primary components of the technology. After the Miyaki Project was shut down by a global intervention and the SDS Foundation was vilified, Izumo was reincorporated into Yakamoto several decades following this.
