The Imperium of Kings is a vast interstellar civilisation located to the east of the Milky Way's Galactic Center, extending over much of the Inner Rim, Center Rim, Mid Rim and Outer Rim. The Imperium is functionally a Technocratic Oligarchy under the absolute control of "The Council", the nation's primary executive body. The Imperium is well known for its vast size and power, being both the largest and arguably most powerful civilisation within the Milky Way.
While it does have occasional populations of other sentient species in designated environments, the Imperium is primarily inhabited by the Kings - an ancient and powerful humanoid species native to the Imperium's capital world which is nowadays known as "Planet-1C". This species' goals largely align with that of the Imperium itself, which in this case is regaining immortality, which the species used to possess millions of years ago before being cursed due to the desecration of a deceased deity's remains.
Government
"The Council"
The Council is the ruling body of the Imperium of Kings consisting of 7 members, acting as the highest authority in the entire Imperium. Most decisions undertaken by other bodies within the Imperium government first have to be approved by The Council in order for them to go into effect.
Ministry of Astrography
The Ministry of Astrography is responsible for establishing standardized (code)names for civilisations, species, planets, etc. The most 'noticeable' effect of their presence is the heavily simplistic names for their own planets, being simple alphanumeric codes whose meanings have never been clarified.
Ministry of Settlement
The Ministry of Settlement is responsible with providing housing for the upper and middle castes of society, while also organizing the colonization and settlement[1] of planets recently placed under the Imperium's control after the research of the target planet is completed.
Ministry of Science
The Ministry of Science is the body responsible for directing the entire Imperium's effort towards advancing its scientific knowledge. The Ministry of Science is well known for its research of other civilisations, species, and planets within the Milky Way and beyond with the aim of 'advancing' the Imperium to the point that the Kings may one day regain their Immortality through the use of advanced technology or science.
Sub-Directorate of Genetic Science
The Sub-Directorate of Genetic Science is responsible for the Imperium's advancement into biological sciences. They are currently adept enough to change the DNA and natural structure of a still-living being, which has been utilised in various projects such as the Experimental-Species Project.
Society
King society is among one of the strictest in the Milky Way thanks to its centrally planned nature, where individuals are brought up in certain environments and locations for a specific trade. 'Usefulness' is held with high importance in the society, with individuals being divided up into castes based on how 'useful' they are deemed to be.
Caste System
King Society is divided into various castes depending on an individuals status, usefulness and employment. This system runs deep into King society, with each individuals living situation depending on how 'useful' they can be to society as a whole, including where in the empire they reside;
- Highly intelligent individuals or those who manage to innovate in whatever field they are focused on are settled onto Planet-1C or another elite planet in a home specifically for them.
- 'Useful' individuals are settled onto the various systems near Planet-1C or other elite planets in communal apartments.
- Individuals that are deemed 'not useful' are disregarded and either settled onto far-off colony worlds or have to make it on their own[2] in slums.
- Certain unlucky individuals from the lowest class may also be assigned to become test-subjects for the Ministry of Science.
Military
Spacecrafts
Scientific Vessels
King Science Vessels tend to be long and stealthy, intended for covertly observing and documenting the actions of species and civilisations regardless of technological advancement[3].
War Vessels
King Warships tend to be fairly large with the length of a few kilometres, implementing the Kings' abilities they gained from giving up their immortality in their weapons systems alongside more traditional ordinances such as fusion-missiles, gamma-ray weaponry, gravity-based weaponry, and occasional anti-matter munitions.
Specialized Vessels
Across its history the Imperium has constructed several "specialized crafts" - essentially 'superweapons' - for various purposes. A vast majority of such crafts are designed with the capability of completely devastating a planet or system beyond recognition, wiping out all life present within it. Though due to the energy requirements and construction expenses for such vessels, they are rarely utilised.
Self-Defence Policy
In accordance with the Imperium's focus on studying the various species of the Milky Way, the Imperium has a unusual policy when it comes to being subject to an attack of any kind. Generally the first action that the Imperium takes if attacked is to observe their enemy in order to document how they attack, and how they operate. Reprisal attacks are done on a case-by-case basis, with civilisations/species deemed 'not useful' to furthering their scientific research being wiped out and civilisations deemed 'interesting' or otherwise 'useful' in research purposes being spared from reprisal attacks and placed under covert research.
Scientific Offence Policy
Despite its devotion to studying civilisations develop on their own, the Imperium is still known to launch wars of conquest against other civilisations if they deem that there is nothing else to be learned from the civilisation. These civilisations are entirely occupied and absorbed into the Imperium, where their citizens and non-sentient fauna/flora are relocated to worlds with fake cities and environments so that their continued progress may be observed in controlled environments. All species that have been placed in these fake environments are barred from leaving them, as the Imperium government do not want 'research subjects' to interact with the general public. The only notable exception to this rule are the few species that have been deemed useful in military situations, although this is usually a rare occurrence.
History
Ascension
Tens of millions of years ago, the Kings were a simple species that resided on the planet that would one day be known as "Planet-1C". Unlike a vast majority of the various biological species that has inhabited the galaxy, the Kings had evolved to be entirely immortal - a gift which they greatly appreciated. This all changed one day however, as the Kings came across the crystalized remains of a long-dead god. In their curiosity they collected the gemstones from the god's crystalized corpse, which granted them highly powerful abilities. While it initially seemed like they had 'struck gold', their species was met with a curse after desecrating the god's remains that completely stripped them of their immortality.
Following the first mortal death, the Kings eternally devoted themselves to discovering a method[4] to break the curse, no matter how much they would need to advance to achieve their goal.
Experimental-Species Project
Following the Kings losing their immortality and founding the Imperium, they dedicated themselves to research, science and the advancement their knowledgebase in order to cure their supposed ailment. This process often involved scientific experiments on test subjects from their own species with the aim of regaining immortality, of these the most notable was the "Experimental-Species Project". This project was approved was approved by The Council a period of time after the research began into curing their mortality, and involved the genetic modification of King test subjects to see if a variant of their species could be created that possessed immortality.
While thousands of such species were created during the span of the project, eventually all being declared failures either terminated or repurposed, the four most notable species that came out of this project were the Space Giraffes, Blargs, Beacons and Goos. While most of these subjects did in fact become (biologically) immortal, The Council was dissatisfied with the fact that their physical forms were altered to the point that they no longer resembled Kings whatsoever, lost their memories, and were physically much weaker than the Kings were. Because of this, the Experimental-Species Project was deemed a failure.
Each of these four Experimental-Species remained in containment until they managed to one way or another break out of their containment and escape into the wider cosmos beyond Imperium Space. As these species began to replicate and forge interstellar empires of their own, the Imperium decided to study their progress and how far they would get without intervention.
Termination of the Experimental-Species Project
In 210 The Council had decided that any new knowledge could not be gained from the continued existence of the several now-rogue experimental species developed eons prior, ordering several of its assets to wipe out all of said species, including the likes of the Goos, Space Giraffes, and many others. The initial phases of this operation included the destruction of each target's homeworld, such as Crethirus. Once this was completed it led to the rapid collapse of each target society, allowing King forces to swiftly mop up most remaining survivors.
While a vast majority of the experimental species that were either contained in Imperium space or had escaped established themselves in he Galaxy were wiped out, a few such as the Blargs and Beacons were spared due to ongoing events in their history being of interest to the Kings, such as the Pisura27 Outbreak and the Blarg Civil War.
Death of Lucius
Lucius, king of Foarhinnea, was on Yata alongside considerable numbers of other Space Giraffes due to their ongoing invasion of the planet during these events. Shortly following Terry Teur's attempted destruction of the Space Giraffe invasion force with his super weapon, a sole King ship arrived to the location of Lucius and many of the survivors of the attack. From this ship stepped out B-2, the King assigned to the completion of the termination order on Yata. B-2 conversed with Lucius, revealing to him how the Space Giraffes were created as an experiment and Lucius was the test subject that resulted from said experiment, and how both him, his species, and his homeworld were to be eradicated. With ease B-2 vaporised all Space Giraffe soldiers present at the scene with a simple attack from their eyes, though Lucius survived. B-2's ship then launched a similar attack against Lucius, this time killing him. B-2 considered destroying Yata in order to wipe out all remaining Space Giraffes, but feared that The Council would disapprove of this, thus they decided to let them live with the intention that they would die out in the near future.
Early 300s
In the Early 300s the Imperium engaged in a few minor activities, the first of which was the destruction of a Zerg raiding fleet that had entered their territory. Luckily for the Zerg, the Imperium evaluated that the Zergs were a highly interesting species, thus letting them live in order for further study. The next event that the Imperium was involved in was The Quhanim's invasion of the Milky Way, which the Imperium was contacted to assist in defeating. The Imperium decided against intervening in due to a status of perceived technological equality with the Qu. Following the conclusion of this conflict King ships were sent across the abandoned battlefields to collect the remains of ships whose technology was put under study and later adapted for King vessels. Alongside this, several surviving Qu were gathered and put under study in Imperium space.
Subjucation of Dasra
In 384 the Imperium launched a surprise invasion of the small "Mechanical Freedom Forces in the Imperium" located on the planet Dasra near its south-eastern border, completely wiping them out with relative ease after becoming aware of their existence due to them raiding Imperium territory. Following the invasion, Dasra was colonized and integrated into the Imperium as "Planet-D632"
Confrontation with the Hybrid Enclave
In 421 the Hybrid Enclave's fleet passed through the Imperium fairly close to its core regions, leading to them being noticed and trailed by the Kings until The Council approved to intervene, demanding their immediate surrender in return for being guaranteed their safety after disabling their thrusters. After a period of bargaining with one another the Kings relented, seeing as a forced engagement could likely lead to the destruction of thee technology and specimens of the Hybrids which they intended to study, leading to them agreeing to be peacefully given some of their non-vital ships for study purposes if the Hybrids were allowed to peacefully exit King Space without further interruptions.
