The Invirian Ascendancy (known simply as Invirian) was a collective of star systems located northwest of the galactic centre in the Center Rim, and was an enclave of the Empyrium. To the wider galaxy, it was an unchartered region located in what was known as the Alkidian Superanomaly, believed to be inaccessible due to the presence of voidspace anomalies that prevent FTL travel. It contained 26 member systems, and the capital world was Inviria.

Invirian was formed from the remnants of Empyrean colonists that ventured into the superanomaly and survived, however their exposure to the memoria left them dependent on it. Invirian appears to be providing Laconia immense logistical and materiel support through unknown means, as support for the Empyrium Civil War. The authoritarian military junta that ruled Invirian exercises its power to alleviate the effects of an impending "orgone catastrophe".

Following the events of Paralogia, Invirian Space has ceased to exist, and all the inhabited planets within it now exist within the San System.

Invirian Space

It is advised to read Memoria to better understand the nature of memoria spaces.

Invirian Space was a memoria space, in that it was governed by the flow of memoria, rather than the otherwise omnipresent orgone energy. Essentially, the entire collective was located within a near-impenetrable "bubble" of memoria from which it cannot leave, as the laws of the universe do not function as they do on the outside. Furthermore, the memoria space was threatened by an impending "orgone catastrophe" - an anomaly that transmutes the memoria space's contents to the orgone realm. The outcome of this catastrophe, if it were to happen, were entirely uncertain. Some claim that the environments within Invirian would not be able to exist within realspace and may disappear entirely. Others suggest that even if the "physical" element of the memoria emerges in realspace, Invirian's inhabitants may not be able to survive. Biological functions do not exist within memoria space, and although Invirian as a whole may be able to avert imminent crises to do with food, water and hygiene, it was thought that people highly attuned to memoria may fail to sustain themselves at all, a hypothesis known as "orgone shock". This has been putting pressure on the collective to either find a preventative measure or find a way to attune to orgone and enter realspace.

Control

Studies by scientists from Primio show that even with two people, a memoria space can tend to chaos. That was to say, both people can perceive a space in a unique way that "hybridises" the environment, or even corrupt it. Given that around 1.2 trillion people inhabit Invirian Space, ensuring that the memoria space was "preserved" was a high priority. This preservation was delegated to two different roles, the Xahnamohan and the Haniamonai.

Xahnamohan

The Xahnamohan, commonly called the Curators, were responsible for preserving the environments within Invirian Space. They were incredibly psychically attuned to the memoria, insofar as their consciousness outrivals the entire population of Invirian. Through thought, curators preserve the "perception" of an environment, rendering it significantly less sensitive to the influence of others thoughts. For example, if someone attempted to materialise a place/thing that was undesirable, this would be prevented. In other words, the worlds within Invirian were ultimately experienced from the perspective of the curators. Curators additionally delegate large numbers of people as their "staff" who people can consult regarding significant changes to the memoria space. In a sense, they restrict the extent to which ordinary people can manipulate the memoria space, rather than acting in a "thought police" capacity.

Because the curators perception of Invirian Space was how its inhabitants will ultimately perceive it, this also delegates many legal and judicial responsibilities to them. Those deemed undesirable or dangerous can be exiled from the memoria space, in that the curators can stop perceiving them. In doing so, one who has been "exiled" was unable to be perceived at all, and largely cannot interact with their environment for the duration of their sentence.

In Invirian, all worlds were assigned at least five curators, many of whom were thousands of years old. Realistically, one curator was significantly more than was needed to maintain the integrity of the memoria space in a given location, so this was primarily a failsafe in case any curator were to be compromised, while also holding a symbolic role within that world.

Haniamonai

The Haniamonai, known commonly as the Timekeepers (or sometimes the Fates, not to be confused with the Loom of Fate), were responsible for preserving causality within Invirian Space. It was comprised of a non-descript amount of powerful beings who, unlike the Loom of Fate, only dictates the past. Due to the nature of memoria spaces, if someone strongly believed something to be true, it might actually become so in a way that it had happened prior. Therefore, the role of the timekeepers was to infiltrate the memoria and essentially record events as they happen creating a definitive "past", and preventing people from altering it.

The curators and timekeepers were also jointly responsible for dealing with paradoxes, i.e. inconsistencies within time and the environment that result from conflicting memories. This can arise when certain memories were repressed, forgotten, or otherwise influenced by external means.
