The Asian Soviet Socialist Union, commonly simply known as ASSU or the Asian Union, was a sovereign federal socialist republic situated in the north-east of Asia composed of various partially autonomous Asian Soviet Republics defined on regional boundaries. The ASSU was established in 399 following the New Futurians lead by Vsevolod Sokolov seizing control of the Siberian Labour Republic due to various regions of the country falling to anti-government revolutionaries, allowing the New Futurians to exploit the power vacuum to gain control. The ASSU eventually collapsed and was ultimately usurped by the Linelandic Empire in 416 following a catastrophic defeat following a conflict with the Labour Collective of Sizhou.
History
In 397 the collapse of The Confederacy was already well underway, especially following the secession of the Rus Federative Republic, leading to the establishment of the Rus Federation. This move however was greatly opposed by the more left-leaning Siberian federal subjects under the Rus, whom saw it as the Rus government attempting to bail on the confederacy that it itself had started. These revolutionaries soon afterwards established the All-Rus Salvation Front and launched attacks on the Rus Federation, although they failed to gain any success. Fearing a defeat, the ARSF agreed to partition the nation in two between the new Federal Republic of Tritonia in the west and the ARSF in the east, which they reorganized into the Siberian Labour Republic. This move was very unpopular in Siberia, leading to anti-war agitators assassinating the SLR's leadership in response to its signing of the treaty and subsequent militarization. Following this incident the SLR held snap elections, in which the eccentric political figure Stas Tarasov, leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Siberia gained power. Stas Tarasov however failed to stabilise the state due to a series of purges of influential opposition figures and cotninued militarization, leading to the Linasgrad Uprising in which anti-government forces seized control of much of the SLR's capital for several weeks before being forced to flee into the countryside. Following their escape, the anti-government forces launched several insurgencies against the government, allowing the Kingdom of Yamalia to additionally secede. In response to this crisis, an emergency election was held in which Stas Tarasov was voted out of power and replaced by Vsevolod Sokolov of the RCPS's 'New Futurian' faction after gaining a narrow plurality of the votes in a highly controversial electio. With swift military actions and reforms, Sokolov's government managed to put down the revolts, allowing him to move further in his political ambitions despite initial accusations of fraud or election meddling.
While the New Futurians did recognise Stas Trasov's importance in ending moderate rule in Siberia, they also saw him as a flawed figure which would only lead Siberia towards another war with Tritonia, thus the New Futurians announced the total reorganization of the Siberian Labour Republic into the Asian Soviet Socialist Union, which would instead look towards its asian identity instead of its Rus one. Due to its socialist government, ASSU swiftly aligned itself to the various other socialist nations of Yata such as Yakamoto, Sizhou and Patria Grande, though with more distant relations than the relations between the socialist states ASSU aligned with due to its more utopian ideology. In its first post-war expansion in 399 the ASSU gained the former Eurasian lunar colony of Devanagrad's favour, convincing it to join them instead of Tritonia. In the same year the ASSU adopted a much more liberalized economy than its other socialist contemporaries, adopting a mixed economy in order to negate the effects of the ongoing Yatan Economic Crisis. In 402 the ASSU joined the Socialist Assembly, building closer relations with its fellow socialist nations, though this would not last forever as ASSU soon afterwards started having increasingly strained relations with Sizhou due to its pan-humanist scientific ideals conflicting with ASSU's pan-asian and utopian goals.
In late 407 the ASSU began its first major geopolitical actions by invading the Federation of Khuree, establishing several of its now key ministries and projects, and declaring the establishment of the Planetary Government of Yata, an international council of visionaries and innovators united with the goal of working towards an improved and more prosperous world. In 408 the ASSU began working on Project Niislehotsk, a goal to create a new, modernist capital city along the shores of Lake Baikal. From 410-413 the ASSU passed several new laws that wholly reorganized its internal polities into larger regional republics instead of more nationally based boundaries, established several new ministries, aimed to decrease bureaucracy, began the funding of ASSU-aligned revolutionaries across much of Asia, opened up government participation to the whole populace, and implemented various social reforms. While these new policies with initially successful, leading to the acquisition of Altai from Kipchakistan and the development of 'modernized' transport systems, the ASSU would soon end up in extreme debt due to all of its expensive projects, leading to Sokolov ordering the ASSU to move away from monetary economics.
The situation with Sizhou would also worsen, especially following them discovering the ASSU was funding revolutionaries within its territory. While Sizhou's diplomats attempted to convince Sokolov to give up on these efforts and join in their efforts for a improved and truly collectivized world, Sokolov disregarded their offers as authoritarian nonsense. Shortly following this incident the ASSU published a condemnation of Sizhou, revealing the existence of its control by The Collective to the world. This incident lead to even more tense relations between the two states mobilized. The recently mobilized forces would eventually start skirmishing with one another, leading to the ASSU launching a pre-emptive strike into Sizhou with the hopes of eliminating them as a threat before they launch a reprisal attack. Sizhou eventually managed to halt the enemy advance, and due to its more advanced and adaptable military managed to launch a major counter-offensive reclaiming all occupied territories in the north-east. As Sizhou pushed deep into Asian territory thru the east, the ASSU seized the opportunity to divert Sizhese forces by invading western Sizhou, which while initially successful ended with Sizhou launching a successful counter-offensive. With Sizhou in the upper hand, they launched one final mass-offensive against the ASSU, overwhelming them beyond recovery, leading to a Sizhese victory. Following the defeat and stripping of most of its southern territories, the ASSU would quickly enter a political crisis as local governments seized additional powers and the central government's reconstruction efforts failed. With the country falling apart, Vsevolod Sokolov fled abroad to Yetia, leaving the nation without leadership, leading to the Futurian Guard seizing power in a coup to restore some semblence of stability. In the final duscussions on how the new military government would be run, a group of Sakha revolutionaries assassinated the military government, leading to the central government in its entirety falling apart. Following the ensuing chaos and civil war, the Linelandic White Guard managed to seize control of the nation, declaring the restoration of the Linelandic Empire.
Government & Politics
The Asian Soviet Socialist Union was a Federal Presidential Socialist Republic headed by the ideologically utopian-socialist Revolutionary Communist Party of Asia, a unusually esoteric left-leaning political organization headed by Premier Vsevolod Sokolov, whom was entrusted with leading the nation following emergency elections in 399. Following his election the government was greatly reorganized to meet his more eclectic demands and goals, especially when it came to the goals of pan-asianism and technological advancement. The ASSU was unique among modern socialist states due to its distancing from Orthodox Marxism, instead moving towards a more innovative system that embraces change[1] and new ideas instead of sticking to the words of long-gone philosophers. With this system the government of the ASSU hoped to have the nation become a force of constant change and perfection, so that it may only emerge stronger, faster, and better than before. While its various policies appeared as confusing and controversial, the ASSU followed a specific doctrine formulated from 'perennial truths and science', in which the state is a vector pushing through time against the myriad of concepts and governments that dissolve into a single incandescence of humanity, of which the ASSU is at the forefront of.
While regardless being somewhat authoritarian, the government of the ASSU proclaimed itself a force of freedom and cooperation, denouncing[2] any kind of boorish behaviour towards those which disagree with its notions, instead favouring the greatest possible freedom of expression, where any thoughts or opinions can be published without oversight. Because of this 'freedom', the government viewed protesting as an action of the past, as in their 'state of innovation', laws restricting human activities are to over time become superfluous and eventually non-existent. With this new freedom, the Government of ASSU compared itself to a bird hatching from an egg, so that the people whom now can live how they feel and want to can build up truths and vistas never before conceived. As an extension of this program of promoting freedom, a public "visionary law hotline" exists for everyday civilians to propose new reforms and proposals for the Supreme Soviet to discuss.
Before Sokolov's premiership and the establishment of the ASSU the Siberian Labour Republic was under the control of Premier Stas Tarasov, whom is still seen as a 'founding figure' for ASSU, even if many of his ideas of revolutionary aestheticism and violent cultural revolution have been denounced by the current government.
Foreign Relations
The Asian Soviet Socialist Union was a member of the Socialist Assembly, thus it had positive relations with most left-leaning states across Yata such as Yakamoto, Choros, Patria Grande, Yorica, the East African Federation, and so on. Although out of these Yakamoto was the ASSU's closest ally. The only nations that the ASSU had a negative relationship with were Tritonia, because of the ASSU's predecessor's war against them, and Sizhou due to conflicting ideological goals leading to increasingly strained relations. Despite their tensions, ASSU and Sizhou attempted to remain at least nominally friendly until their eventual war.
The ASSU's foreign policy was also somewhat dependent on its own ideology, as in their eyes the continent of Eurasia remains in chains until all Asian people have united under one banner in opposition to any other force from across the globe that oppresses them with war and colonization. Because of this, more capitalist oriented states, especially those from nations that have in the past conquered portions of Asia, had little to no diplomatic relations with the ASSU, although this had been stated to be a temporary development until the 'insidious nations fall under the cultural-economic dominion of Asia'.
Government Departments
Planetary Government of Yata
In order to further its goals of innovation and revolutionary action, Vsevolod Sokolov formed the 'Planetary Government of Yata' as the new legislative body of Yata, composed of a number of innovative figures whom oppose the model of bordered human government who had joined together as one unified body. This government was tasked with coordinating and assisting all nations, with the aim of restoring global harmony. While Sokolov was the president of this government, he had stated that any rivalries or ideological disagreements will not be considered in the approval process of new members of the Government. The Planetary Government was assigned to various functions, with its paramount functions being funding new projects and 'overseeing Yata's bureaucracy'.
The brave innovative officials of the Planetary Government had a fairly simple task, the inspire and make possible. Wise artists, architects, innovators, and explorers were intended to come from all around both ASSU, and all other nations of the world to present their ideas to the members of the Government, whom were more than happy to put their seal of approval on funding all of these wondrous new projects, with the only restriction for such projects being the laws of physics and temporality. This nucleus of ideas was intended to be a shining light for all-Yata, where no inventor shall be shacked by monetary needs. The general "idea" behind approving such costly endeavours was to throw everything at the wall, see what sticks, and fund it all without question to improve the ASSU even more than before.
While this "government" may initially seem conflicting with the ASSU itself due to its nature as a national government, the ASSU had rectified this by declaring itself connected but subordinate to this new government as the first of many administrative districts of Yata.
Ministry of Agriculture
The Ministry of Agriculture wasa section of the ASSU's government dedicated to coordinating and managing the various agricultural plots and workers within the nation. Despite its unusual nature, ASSU did also have more typical policies such as agricultural subsidies, though with the addition of providing farmers with both necessary and costly equipment such as crop-dusters.
Synthetic Foods Committee
The Synthetic Foods Committee was a project assigned to the Ministry of Agriculture tasked with research and advancement into the field of synthetic/lab-grown foods.
Ministry of Architecture
The Ministry of Architecture was a section of the ASSU's government dedicated to coordinating and managing the nation's various construction projects. The Ministry of Architecture was unique for its belief that capitalism has oppressed landowners and architects, thus the only way to rid the world of such landowners is to have a "irrational" and ultravisionary planned urbanization scheme. The Ministry was known to favour attributes such as collective labour and living in its designs, alongside vast public establishments.
Project Niislehotsk
As the ASSU continued to expand across Asia and the first of many prophesies and contemplations were beginning to see light, Premier Vsevolod Sokolov ordered the beginning of a brand new project for the ASSU to undertake, the construction of a new capital in the very heart of asia, Lake Baikal. This city, named Niislehotsk, was designed to be a marvel of modern design and bright lights, filled with countless architectural wonders not limited by typical standards, instead only by limitless imagination. The city's environment was designed to promote feelings of freedom, so that the arts and sciences could be enjoyed with no limitations, eclipsing the sun with their newfound light.
Modern Infrastructure Program
As a part of the ASSU's modernization efforts, the "Modern Infrastructure Program" was approved to create more modern and comfortable public infrastructure vehicles for the Asian Populace. One of the first examples of this project was the newest model of 'train' produced by the project, a large cube of glass reinforced with steel furnished with a sliding door and basic ornaments/furniture. These vehicles had been put into use on the ASSU's train networks, acting as vehicles for a couple, if not a single person to traverse across the width of the ASSU, capable of also acting as modular homes that can be removed off the rails if desired.
Ministry of Defence
The Ministry of Defence was a section of the ASSU's government dedicated to the upholding the nation's military, named the Futurian Guards. While typically tasked with fairly expected military matters, the Guards also sometimes preformed various kinds of civil service to assist in the nation's development.
Ministry of the Economy
The Ministry of the Economy was a section of the ASSU's government tasked with keeping the union's finances in check, alongside beginning efforts to move the ASSU way from systems of monetary exchange, rather moving towards a new revolutionary economy beyond 'monetary limitations'. This new economic model was ordered to be adopted following the publishment of a financial report by the ministry claiming that the Union's various megaprojects have left the ASSU in a debt of several billion rubles, which Premier Sokolov disregarded as a symptom of monetary economics that can easily be mended via reforming the economy into a improved system.
Ministry of Industry
The Ministry of Industry waas a section of the ASSU's government dedicated to the coordination and management of the nation's industries. Unlike most other branches of the government that are organized to be 'free-flowing', the Ministry of Industry was tasked with making sure the industry of the ASSU functions as a perfect machine, with the purpose of fueling the ASSU's movement into the future.
Ministry of Linguistics
The Ministry of Linguistics was a section of the ASSU's government dedicated to the language of the nation, fulfilling its work by both translation[3] services, dictionary publishing, and language-classes, and by the more esoteric research of language and phonemes. In its research efforts, the Ministry of Linguistics was dedicated to understanding the primordial meanings of each phoneme and letter so that a single unified language of humanity can eventually be devised as an international tongue understood by all peoples of Yata and beyond. The base theory behind this new language was to dissolve any notions of objective sense and restriction in grammar, so that all individuals may express themselves in any way they see fit.
Ministry of Religious Affairs
Unlike many other visionary socialist states, the ASSU was fairly friendly to various religious traditions, funding their preservation. Though alongside more typical faiths the Ministry of Religious Affairs also upheld more unusual religions such as fringe pagan groups and new-religious-movements.
Ministry of Science and Technology
The Ministry of Science and Technology was a section of the ASSU's government dedicated to the advancement of technology and science, aspiring to allow the ASSU to stride forward valiantly new sciences no other nation could conceive of until the sun itself is eclipsed by the shining rays of humanity planting its the flag of ASSU on its surface
Department of Astronomy
The Department of Astronomy was a department of the Ministry of Science and Technology tasked with the study of space-based phenomena, alongside the scientific operations in the Devanagrad Lunar Colony. While most of the department's duties werefairly typical, it also is involved in more esoteric research programs such as figuring out the connections between life and the stars, and the nature of 'unseen energies'.
Department of Temporal Science
The Department of Temporal Science was a department of the Ministry of Science and Technology tasked with the study and further understanding of time, as unlike Space, the laws of Time remain pristine and enigmatic despite the chaos of the laws of Space. According to the DTS governments of Space will clash amongst one another, accumulating dust and rubble as history brings them against one another, but with proper calculations and study the government of the ASSU hoped to secure its own pre-eminence by embracing a natural law incapable of such volatility. As an extension of this, the ASSU was the sole government to date to claim dominion over a point in time rather than a point in space, with this point in time always being in the future so that the ASSU may constantly race towards it at an accelerating rate.
The concepts of the DTS expanded further than just the ministry's own research purposes though, as government ministers and bureaucrats were given pamphlets with mathematic and temporal tools in order to properly analyse and both keep track of what has occurred and what will occur. Contained within these pamphlets are simple and abbreviated lists of rules that govern over time and history, with the most important rule being the importance of 3^x in the events of world history, so that the dull bureaucratic acts of pencil-pushing could be transformed into an engine of prophecy and prediction.
Department of Zoology
The Ministry of Zoology was a department of the Ministry of Science and Technology tasked with the study of the study of various aspects of the ASSU's wildlife and the management of 'inter-species matters', claiming that the immortal philosophy of the ASSU will do good for both humanity and the animal kingdom.
Economy
While it may of differed from traditional Marxists, the concept of worker's liberation was still highly important in the ASSU's ideology. Be it by bureaucracy, reactionary rulers, or the capitalist class, the ASSU saw all such systems of exploitations as originating from the "investor-exploiter class". In order to prevent such issues from arising within its society, the ASSU adopted a system of general land reform and collectivity, under the principle that the total landmass that the workforce of the nation needs is no smaller than the nation's landmass. Economically the government of the ASSU supports equal pay, in which each individual of the nation shall get a single unified monthly wage, so that the artists or investors of society would no longer suffer through starvation or depend on selling away their own concepts to those with more wealth than themselves. Despite this, the ASSU did allow private ventures and foreign investment as long as companies operating within its borders followed its laws.
