This page is a collaborative resource with short definitions of various terms related to the Yata Universe for ease of access and reading.
Terms defined elsewhere (Countries, Civilisations, Groups, Individual Dimensions, etc.) are not included on this list to avoid redundancy. (with some exceptions)
Culture & Society
- Extranational Space - The regions of space beyond the control of any established civilisation or polity.
- Free-Port - A self-governing inherently anomalous or otherwise abnormal enclave on either Yata or Theia existing in contrast to the status quo.
- Memetic - Memes are the basic units of culture, ideas or behaviours that can be transmitted to others through communication or imitation.
Magic & Religion
- Afterlife - A series of various possible tangible realities which one's consciousness may inhabit after death.
- Aimacos - Blood, or another vital fluid, utilised in rituals.
- Anomalous Religion - Any religion whose; practitioners or traditions are either inherently anomalous, require the usage of anomalous techniques to be followed, manifests in places where it naturally 'shouldn't', or a majority of its followers are either anomalous or make use of anomalies. Some more notable Anomalous Religions appear across the entire cosmos despite no contact between follower civilisations, implying that some outside anomalous force installs said religious beliefs.
- Apportation - Teleportation through magical means.
- Backfire - Random alterations to reality caused as a side-effect of magic.
- Carnomancy - Magical techniques for altering and reshaping the body[1], most frequently practiced by Crimsonists.
- Cosmic Source - A finite energy source that is thought to be the original source of all life. It can be drawn from in the form of Orgone Energy, although the Cosmic Source itself has been locked away by the Deities to prevent it from being run dry.
- Orgone Energy - A mystical energy field surrounding all life, functioning like an universal life force. It is emitted by living beings, and is thus often used to power Magic.
- Paradimensional - The most powerful type of 'Deity' on record. Generally exist in unreality, representing some cosmic force.
- Theurgy - Various ritual practices associated with the invocation the presence of one or more deities, especially with the goal of achieving henosis (uniting with the divine) and perfecting oneself. Theurgy is particularly common among practitioners of Anomalous Religions.
- Willfulness - A measurement of the mental fortitude and resistance of an individual to mind-affecting anomalies[2] and phenomena. Commonly associated with practitioners of Tritonism.
Materials & Energy
- Ablative - A strong and endurent material synthesised by the CIS through reverse-engineered Trigal armor.
- Agnostics - Substances that makes consumers more open to otherwise incomprehensible and anomalous phenomena by altering their thought-patterns to become more illogical.
- Attrick Gas - A strange gas that acts as a vessel for a virus to infect an artificial being. This virus converts them into a loyal follower of the Red Leader.
- Refined Tantalite - A metallic alloy frequently used in Paratechnology.
- Blarium Fuel - A fuel used as an alternative to Void Energy, though it cannot fuel devices that require Void Energy other than Eirnics.
- Divine Energy - Divine Energy is a form of non-electromagnetic radiation that is connected to the amount of religious faith a person holds, as well as worship in general. Divine Energy "fuels" the continued existence, and abilities of Deities, who cannot exist within corporeal reality without it.
- Gnostics - The opposite of an agnostic, gnostics make one more certain and sure of things, although this does not necessarily make them correct.
- Ischyros - A dense and absorbent material that Trigal armor is made up of.
- Liquim - A Synthetic Material and Energy Source composed of an unspecified electrically conductive material and Void Energy.
- Liquim Crystals - A solid form of Liquim with an unspecified use.
- Platinum-Liquim - A synthesis of Liquim and Platinum generally used in the construction of energy weapons[3].
- Pure Liquim - A bright blue viscous fluid used as a fuel due to its energetic properties
- Orichalcum - A rare crystalline substance capable of storing extreme amounts of digital data and eletrical/magical energy.
- Tarosian Pylons - A naturally formed crystalline structure allowing the formation of Wormholes.
- Varinite - A strong conductive metal utilised by Red Leader.
- Void Energy - An extremely energetic, efficient, powerful, and unstable Energy Source connected to the Later Void.
- Void-Matter - A special kind of unstable matter created via Void Energy.
- Tarafiber - A nanofiber composite with a high durability and tensile strenght. It is commonly used for wires or cables that have to withstand extreme conditions like for the construction of space tethers or elevators.
- Tritonite - A metal with the property of blocking or preventing extrasensory mental effects like telepathy and mind control.
Science
- Anomaly / Anomalous - Generally defined as anything that cannot be explained by current scientific knowledge.
- Antimemetic - Ideas which, by their intrinsic nature, discourage or prevent people from spreading them.
- Average Reality Stability - A unit used to measure the strength or amount of reality in an area or dimension.
- Baseline Reality / Local Multiverse - The multiverse in which Yata's Dimension is located.
- Celestiobiology - The study of higher dimensional organisms and entities.
- Cognitohazard - A term used to refer to objects or things in general that are dangerous to perceive[4]. This could occur through any or all of the human senses, including sight, sound, smell, taste, or touch.
- Countermeme/Memetic-Inoculation - A counter-meme protects against or reverses the effects of memetic anomalies.
- Dimensional Form - A category that signifies what medium of reality a dimension takes. These categories are: Mathematical, Temporal, Space-Time, and Astral.
- Dimensional Sub-Type - A category that signifies what form a Locational Dimension takes.
- Divine Energy - Radiation linked to prayer and divine intervention. A place with high levels of Divine Energy has been visited or touched by a god, while a place with low Divine Energy may be considered forgotten or forsaken by the gods.
- Ectoentropic - Entities or objects that produce energy or matter in an unexplained way, in apparent violation of the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics - energy (which includes matter) cannot be created, and entropy (the disorder of a system) must always increase over time.
- Élan-vital Radiation - Orgone energy intense enough to alter reality - the basis of Magic.
- Essophysics - The scientific study of the physical embodiments or manifestations of abstract concepts
- Extradimensional - Something originating from an alternate reality.
- Extradimensional Space - Any kind of reality or realm existing beyond the confines of the Universe.
- Divergent Dimension - A type of Extradimensional Space that exists as some variation of the Universe and diverges into individual timelines every planck second based on yes/no choices.
- Locational Dimension - A type of Extradimensional Space that does not take the form of a universe that undergoes divergence.
- Gateway - A naturally formed connection between two locations, enabling rapid travel between them regardless of distance. Gateways often facilitate travel into Extradimensional Spaces.
- Infoallergenic - An uncommon class of infohazard, capable of exhibiting both memetic and antimemetic properties.
- Infohazard - A term used to refer to objects, beings, phenomena, or even concepts that have an anomalous effect whenever they are referred to or described[5].
- Interconnectivity Variable - A unit of measurement that defines how easily a dimension can be accessed from Yata's one.
- Interdimensional Index - A pan-dimensional system of naming and identifying dimensions.
- Kant Counter - Instrument used to measure the ARS rating of a location.
- Kinetohazard / Kinetoglyphs - anomalous mental and physical effects that occur when an entity performs specific gestures and movements.
- Memetic Hazard - Memetic hazardsare a sub-class of cognitohazards and infohazards that deal with the transfer of information. Ideas and concepts with anomalous memetic properties can spread much more effectively than non-anomalous memes, and may have anomalous effects on anyone exposed to them.
- Memetic Kill Agent - A memetic hazard with a lethal effect on anyone exposed to it without the appropriate inoculation with a countermeme.
- Metamorphic/Polymorphic - Clinical term for shapeshifters, entities that alter their own form or appearance. The most well known Metamorphic species is the Space Giraffes.
- Multiverse - A collection of a countless realities tied together within the Omniverse, each forming a layer of reality.
- Human Psiosis - A rare condition effecting roughly 0.01% of the Human Population on birth granting them psionic abilities and greater access to the Noosphere. People with Human-Psiosis generally have much weaker psionic abilities than species with more common rates of Psiosis or are all naturally psionic.
- Natural Void Energy - An area of a planet with a high concentration of Void Energy allowing for a higher concentration of "magic users" and strange flora. The most well known example of this is Lilaciah.
- Noogenesis - Clinical term for the formation of a new consciousness.
- Noosphere - The astral realm of sapient thought, encompassing dreams, concepts and ideas.
- Omniverse / Cradle[6] - The complete overarching structure containing all of existence within it.
- Oneirosphere - The collective unconsciousness of all living things. Separate from the Noosphere, but still interacts with it.
- Parahuman - A human being with anomalous properties or abilities.
- Pattern Screamer - Consciousnesses embedded within the fabric of reality. These entities do not exist, although they may have existed at some point in the past, and may be brought into existence if perceived.
- Pistiphage - An entity that feeds on faith, deriving sustenance and power from belief and worship. Often used as a clinical term for a deity, a pistiphage may also be a Tulpa, Egregore. or a different entity that exists due to people believing in it.
- Pretermemetic - Information that is selectively memetic or anti-memetic depending on the nature of the recipients or circumstances.
- Primordial Void - A hypothetical chaotic nothingness that encompasses everything outside of the Omniverse.
- Psionics - Supernatural powers and effects solely through the power of the mind, including telepathy, telekinesis, precognition and clairvoyance. The scientific study of psionics may be known as parapsychology or as psychotronics.
- Reality bending / reality warping - The anomalous ability to alter reality. May be referred to as ontokinesis or magic, although magic is generally regarded as something separate.
- Semiosphere - The medium through which information about reality travels before it is perceived or measured. Generally considered as part of the Noosphere.
- Spectral entity - Clinical term for a ghost, spectre or spirit.
- Spectremetry - The scientific study of spectral entities.
- Surrealistics - The scientific study of concepts too incomprehensible or bizarre to understand, except through illogical thought and the use of agnostics.
- Tartarean Resonance Energy - Radiation naturally produced by demonic entities.
- Tartarean Entity - Clinical term for a demon.
- Thaumatology - The scientific study of magic, miracles and the occult. When considered as distinct from reality bending, the phenomena studied by thaumatology generally follow more predictable rules and limitations.
- Temporal Anomaly Theory - A theory that states that the course of history may sometimes be retroactively altered due to intersections with other timelines. ([7])
- Temporal Disparity - A phenomenon in many dimensions causing the flow of time to differ (to varying degrees) when compared to Yata's Dimension.
- Temporal Misalignment - A extradimensional phenomenon which causes that causes the same events caused by the same divergence to chronologically be misaligned, such as a universe set 1800 years in the future to chronologically be happening hundreds of years ago for example.
- Unreality - The area of the Omniverse distant enough from its "core areas" that matter can no longer exist under normal circumstances.
Technology
- Amnestics - Drugs, procedures, or devices that induce memory loss when administered to an individual.
- Anomalous Abatement - The processing of waste products and esoteric substance from anomalies into non-anomalous industrial effluent.
- Artificially Intelligent Conscript / AIC - A type of artificial intelligence created and employed by the SDS Foundation's Artificial Intelligence Applications Division via servitor rituals.
- Cloning Device - A device capable of replicating an organism into one or many genetically identical individuals (Clones). While many have achieved this technology, it has been by far perfected by Mei'ra.
- Constant Temporal Sink - A machine capable of protecting a place of object from temporal changes, or altering the passage of time in a specific area
- Deepwell Server - Specialized data storage servers capable of preserving information across shifts in reality.
- Demonarcotics - Performance enhancing drugs made from demons.
- Demonics - A type of paratechnology that incorporates sentient entities referred to as demons.
- Digiverse / Digital Reality / Synthetic Reality - A type of dimension that exists purely within a digital medium.
- Direct Transphysical Translocation Machine, Mk. II - The current most advanced teleportation device to be invented by humanity, utilised within the JADIRAD Facility.
- Eigenweapon - An anomalous weapon of mass destruction, capable of causing widespread destruction and/or massive loss of life.
- FTL Communication - A series of technologies created with the aim of conveying information at space at faster than light speeds.
- FTL Travel / Subspace-Drive - A series of technologies created with the aim of propelling an object[8] through space at faster than light speeds.
- Holograms - 3-Dimensional projections of light
- Intracom - Accord Space's[9] internally operating Internet & FTL-Communications Network. Works via a series of relay satellites that broadcast communications through subspace.
- Mnestic - The opposite of an amnestic, mnestics are chemical compounds that enhance the user's memory. This can be used to bring back erased or forgotten memories, counter the effects of amnestics, and resist antimemetic effects
- Nanodrone - A type of advanced nanotechnogical drone developed and utilised by the Qu for both 'domestic' purposes and use in war.
- Organon Resonator - A device for converting electrical energy into some type of Magical Energy.
- Paratechnology - Technology that relies on anomalous principles or components to function. More specific terms like paraweapon and parapharmaceutical may be used for specific types of paratechnology.
- Pocket Dimension Device - A device invented in Asophania capable of creating an artificial pocket dimension. These pocket dimensions can be accessed from multiple points, though access becomes increasingly power intensive based on distance from where it is "localized".
- Portal - An artificially created gateway to another dimension.
- Redshock - A small EMP weapon designed to combat artificial beings. The Redshock functions by being thrown at the target being, then piercing through its outer shell with a built in spike, and then frying its interiors with a large EMP shock.
- Sapient Replicator - A device capable of creating sapients from raw materials, much like a Cloning Device. Individuals can be created at any age, and can be implanted with memories and skills.
- SDNS Net - The SDS Foundation's intranet and inter-site database, used to sending emails between employees and for accessing secure files and other documents.
- Standard Reality Anchor - A device that stabilises reality[10] around it, preventing or restricting reality bending and anomalous interference.
- Stealth Technology / Cloaking - A series of technologies built to block the detection of a spacecraft via scanning, visuals, radar, and other forms of electromagnetic detection.
- Sub-FTL Travel - Any conventional or unconventional method of travel through space under the speed of light.
- Subspace Transmission - An electromagnetic signal through a extradimensional medium to a receiver, be it a relay-satellite, planet, or ship.
- Tear Device - A device which acts as a rudimentary method to achieve interdimensional travel. Generally functions by shattering reality in front of it in order to create a portal.
- Void Synthesizer - A machine that redirects a planet's natural Void Energy regeneration to itself to harness it.
- Void Well - A machine that siphons Void Energy from either a planet's core or from the Later Void itself.
- Worldship - A type of spacecraft that functions as its own self-sustaining community.
