What is an Anomalous Location?

Over the years the SDS Foundation has identified several locations exhibiting anomalous properties of some form, many of whom also have a civilian population. While usually these would be contained and evacuated, it is not always that easy due to logistical or diplomatic reasons. While many of these places are out of the SDS Foundation's reach, there are measures in place to continue concealing their existence from the public regardless. Many anomalous locations are inhabited, such places have been colloquially named "Paracommunities". In such locations the residents are permitted to stay, albeit usually under the supervision of an anomalous research organization, since the anomalous properties of such locations typically do not extend beyond the paracommunity's boundaries.

Additionally the SDS Foundation has accepted the existence of "Free-Ports". Free-Ports are paracommunal enclaves which do not require classification of the anomalous, as anomalous methods are typically the only way to enter them. These "Free-Ports" are sovereign and autonomous with observation from either organizations or governments to ensure that the anomalies present within the Free-Port do not extend beyond its boundaries.

Common Properties of a Paracommunity

  • Low Population smaller than 100,000.
  • Defined Boundaries preventing needless spread.
  • Public Knowledge of the anomalous.

Paracommunity Classes

Minor-Prevalence

A Paracommunity classified as a "Minor-Prevalence Paracommunity" houses anomalous events objects at a higher-than-normal rate. These are usually only noticeable to permanent inhabitants.

Intermediate-Prevalence

A Paracommunity classified as a "Intermediate-Prevalence Paracommunity" houses a high frequency of extranormal events and anomalous objects. Most visitors will notice something unusual.

Integral-Prevalence

A Paracommunity classified as a "Integral-Prevalence Paracommunity" has anomalous activity is an integral part of the community. The SDS Foundation must regularly perform cover-ups, and takes measures to prevent or discourage visitors. Containment may be required on a case-by-case basis.

High-Prevalence

A Paracommunity classified as a "High-Prevalence Paracommunity" houses frequent and unpredictable anomalous activity, requiring a permanent SDS Foundation presence, including actively preventing civilians from entering the area, Containment is often needed.

Full-Prevalence

A Paracommunity classified as a "Full-Prevalence Paracommunity" is entirely anomalous, and almost entirely cut off from the non-anomalous world. Intervention may be required to keep personnel safe. Entry and exit is tightly controlled by the SDS Foundation, Containment is required.

Free-Port

A Paracommunity classified as a "Free-Port" is an anomalous community of residence and commerce, accessible only through anomalous means. Free-Ports are aware of anomalies, and make use of them in everyday life. Free-Ports are protected by national or organizational decrees, restricting or forbidding the SDS Foundation from intervening, with law enforcement within the Free-Port often performed by its own local government. Some Free-Ports may even be entire internationally recognised sovereign states, with their true anomalous properties being kept on the downlow.

Crossroads

Not to be confused with Transitional Spaces, despite sharing similar definitions. A transitional space can only lead to a Liminal Space.

A Paralocation or Paracommunity classified as a "Crossroad" is an anomalous location or "middle dimension" housing a gateway to atleast one other dimension in addition to our home dimension, Dimension:Div:79.RedLeader.0/3. They may lead divergent dimensions or locational dimensions.

Digiverse

A Paralocation classified as a "Digiverse" is an anomalous location existing within a computer simulation, rather than in physical space.

Named after the SDS Foundation's now defunct "Digiverse Project".

Other Anomalous Locations

A number of other inhabited anomalous locations have been discovered by the SDS Foundation, but are not currently categorised as a Paracommunity or Free-Port, due to either limited information or unique properties which don't fall under any other category.

Minor Anomalous Location

Minor Anomalous Locations are notably insignificant and minor anomalous locations, which may just have one or two unexplained properties. These do usually require some small cover-ups and security measures, although none of them are closely tied enough to a underlying anomalous cause or dangerous enough to warrant full Special Defensive Safeguards.
