The Empire of Karakoram is a sovereign state located in western Skantos encompassing a majority of the continent of Karakoram situated in the same region. Administratively, Karakoram is a Federal Absolute Monarchy under the political dominance of the Ietada Dynasty, with a fairly weak legislature known as the 'General Assembly of Governors and Clerics' being responsible for local administration and religious matters. Karakoram is the most centralized of all Skantoan societies, with its various historic clans historically being fairly unified as a number of 'Prefectures' aside from the autonomous Bantihanto Clan and Tonatuianij Clan alongside the protectorate of Praxtus. While the modern Ietada-dominated Karakoram was re-established in 541 CE, previous Karakorami dynasties have ruled a similar area ever since 9750 BCE with a major interregnum occurring in 129 CE until the ~500s CE due to an eruption of the Mount Karakoram supervolcano causing widespread global damage. Diplomatically, the Empire of Karakoram is a member of the Sacred Union of Skantos and thus has representation in the international city of Lingguoshi.
Culture
Modern Karakorami culture is among the most advanced on Skantos due to their comparatively harsher climate caused by the occasional eruptions of Mount Karakoram and tensions with the Praxtins forcing them to advance, leading to higher levels of technological and social progress than in other regions. Karakorami society is generally centralized with a focus on order and honour, with 'family' serving as the most important social group, though high levels of class-based stratification are also prevalent with significant influence being in the hands of the nobility, which are the traditional heads of the various Karakorami clans and also influential within the Karakorami clergy (a 'class' unique to the Karakorami cultures), though many rulers also implement meritocracy to some extent where possible in order to allow people of lower classes to advance higher up the social ladder. Despite its harsh landscapes, Karakoram is arguably the most resource-rich region of Skantos which has allowed many Karakorami societies to possess very high standards of living. Socially, Karakorami culture is fairly progressive in many issues, with most sub-cultures featuring widespread gender equality and tolerance towards various groups. Other Karakorami beliefs include the burying of cremated ashes, ancestor worship, nuclear families, coming-of-age rituals, and somewhat of a 'warrior culture'.
Karakoram is home to a number of major settlements, with the largest being Bantihanto Mura, Bazarumura, Chian, Eden's End, Enbaraku, Faiyakejitaun, Hamiachi, Hirabirei, Joyajisen, Kitanofutta, Kuresentobirejji, Maigan, Mosekichi, Ongansen City, Sakshon, Shokuraku, Shuichi, Tonatuialtepetl, Wain, and Yonramura while the city of Teito acts as the capital of the entirety of Karakoram.
Geography
The continent of Karakoram is situated in Skantos' western hemisphere surrounded by the Tengis Ocean to the northwest, the Saikhan Sea to the northeast, the Ariun Tengis to the southeast, and the Bay of Jivekh to the southwest. Aside from the polar regions of the planet, Karakoram has among the harshest climates on all of Skantos due to the presence of the imposing 'Mount Karakoram' supervolcano situated in the eastern-central region of the continent, whose major erruptions which occur every 10-16 thousand years have over time degraded the once lush Karakorami grasslands into arid grasslands where arable land and forests are infrequent aside from the outer coasts and rivers, where a majority of the population has thus settled. When times of abundance and prosperity conclude in either crisis or decline, Karakoram is known to be occasionally prone to famines despite its comparatively more developed economy.
Government and Politics
The Empire of Karakoram is a Federal Absolute Monarchy where nearly all executive power is concentrated in the Monarchy, with the current ruler being King Akamatsu Ietada of the Ietada Dynasty of the Teito Clan. Below the executive, a weak legislative body known as the 'General Assembly of Governors and Clerics' responsible for coordinating local governments and religious affairs (with Karakoram being at least de jure theocratic much like the rest of Skantos in the modern day). The Judiciary is nominally independent of any other body, but is often biased in accordance with the views of the monarchy.
Administrative Divisions
The Empire is divided into a number of prefectures under the oversight of 'Governors' responsible for day-to-day local governance of the various regions of Karakoram which each roughly correspond with the traditional clans of the continent. Alongside the Prefectures, two clans (the Bantihanto Clan and Tonatuianij Clan) retain autonomy onto themselves despite the best attempts of the Karakorami monarchy, while the Empire of Praxtus acts as a protectorate located in the central regions of the continent primarily inhabited by the Praxtins, a religious and isolationist species which tend to keep to themselves (thus they accepted becoming a protectorate so that their own territories would be respected).
