The Abyssal Enclave is a hiveminded collective spanning across several star-systems and species situated within the Mid Rim of the Milky Way Galaxy in the area where the Alpha and Beta quadrants meet. The populace of the Enclave currently consists of 9 sapient species (with the most populous being the 'Abyssans') that are largely all linked into a singular hivemind that is networked together thru the Noosphere, though this hivemind is uniquely not a natural state which exists within said species, as instead it functions in a parasitic manner where individuals of any organic species can be 'assimilated' into the hivemind via a (nowadays) synthetic substance known as 'Abyssal Connection' which overrides and rewires the nervous systems to connect to a shared psionic link which unifies all of their minds into a single conscience present within each individual.

The psionic link which connected the Enclave's constituents was first created as an innate trait of the 'Abyssal Motherorganism', an Elder Spawn (offspring of an Elder God) which arrived on the planet Abyssa in 287 CE, via a secretion known as (original) Abyssal Connection. This rule persisted for several centuries until 518 when a supernova near Abyssa caused the Motherorganism to die, breaking its control over its constituents, though instead of causing the Hivemind or its drones to die, instead a new intelligence was created from the psionic link between the assimilated even if the Connection used to assimilate them no longer functioned. The Abyssal Collective currently present within the assimilated is much less distinct (often behaving as if it was disorientated or dazed despite still being capable of fairly intricate tasks at a efficient rate when not in an alert state) than its predecessor even if its now a purely psychic connection with no source-point, as the 'central intelligence' is present within the Collective is directly under the influence of the minds of its individuals and is thus prone to 'impulsive' reactions as the information about certain events flashes through its psionic link even if the awareness of its constituents as 'individuals' is very muted and blurred together, with each of them typically being in a state of dissociation combined with varying states of elation or euphoria (originating as a 'pacification method' in the days of the Motherorganism) when not in a threatening situation, with 'threats' or other such 'issues' causing flashes of negative emotion until the situation is dealt with or positivity is more useful. Due to their altered emotional responses (with 'happiness' being a 'idle emotion' akin to boredom in Humans), the influence the Hivemind's drones have on its functionality and clarity is significant, making it be a clear opposite to the cold-and-calculated demeanor one would stereotypically expect from a hivemind.

The Abyssal Enclave possesses an innate desire to expand itself across the stars into other civilizations out of a belief that each of its constituents are enjoying a 'better existence' as a part of it, thus once free from the Motherorganism the Enclave quite quickly synthesised its own version of Abyssal Connection which disperses self-replicating organic nanobots to incapacitate and assimilate new individuals into the hivemind if it is ingested. Due to how the Enclave's hivemind functions, 'disconnecting' an individual from the hivemind is essentially impossible without completely rewiring their nervous system on a cellular level, which is highly impractical and only possible with sufficiently advanced medical technologies that may not even wholly break the connection as most cases of disconnection simply prevent the hivemind from being able to actively assert itself over the individual while still being a 'presence' which can actively be felt and heard. The Enclave either expands its population by assimilating new hosts or via normal reproduction among its constituents, though without pre-emptive actions children produced by members of the Hivemind aren't assimilated at conception and thus must undergo the process some-time afterward (due to the components of Abyssal Connection responsible for the task typically not surviving within an individual for more than a couple months after assimilation, thus connection only transmissible via fluids for a very limited window). Upon death, the 'consciousness' of an individual persists within the hivemind network even without a physical form, though they still lack most awareness now to an even greater extent without a physical body to remain tethered to. Assimilated individuals regardless of species tend to share some visual similarities, such as purplish or reseda green toned eyes, and reseda-green fluids (tears, saliva, blood, etc).

As one may expect by how it functions, the Abyssal Enclave is incredibly proficient at both biological weapons and manipulating the Noosphere, though despite this using 'alive' spacecrafts is a task too impractical of a technology for the Enclave to have developed, instead still relying on inorganic technologies such as spacecrafts, computers, and various other devices. Nowadays, the Enclave has largely shifted its military and non-military technological advancements towards the 'inorganic' side of the spectrum aside from 'better' methods to distribute Connection into assimilated peoples or enemy combatants.

Government and Politics

Due to being a Hivemind-based society, the Abyssal Enclave generally lacks any-kind of governing structure as the need to coordinate individuals beyond their psionic link is generally unnecessary. The planet which arguably acts as their 'capital' is Abyssa due to being used as a site where all of the data not stored within their shared mind is stored, with various offices and archives being present on the planet, though this function is often present on other worlds as well. Diplomacy is generally handled by whichever communication device is in the most convenient place for the hivemind to converse through.

History

The history of the various species that nowadays compose the Abyssal Enclave is largely shrouded in history, as in 287 a mysterious entity arrived upon the planet of Abyssa, which ended up being the Motherorganism. Shortly after its arrival, every living being on the planet was assimilated into its consciousness with its own secreted "Abyssal Connection", marking the beginning of the Abyssal Enclave. In the period that followed this, the planets of Thessis, Aqorra, Kessa and Gheisa were also subjugated by the Enclave.

Following the establishment of contact between the Abyssal Enclave and the rest of the galaxy in 325, the Yatan-Theian Accord requested the Zerg Collective to keep an eye on the Abyssal Enclave following the SDS Foundation's discovery of an unusual substance named 'Abyssal Collection' on several human worlds which seemingly assimilated individuals into the Abyssal Enclave's hivemind. The CSIS would also get involved shortly afterwards in 327, sending cloaked vessels into Enclave territory to locate the origin of the Abyssal Connection, which they eventually discovered on Abyssa. Following a period of intel-gathering, the CSIS vessel launched a barage of nuclear weapons at the Motherorganism's palace and the Enclave's bioweapon foundries. Following this attack, the Enclave rapidly organized and launched several vessels to fight off the ship, only to fall back to defensive positions once a CSIS and Zerg invasion fleet arrived in the system. The space-battle was highly intense as Abyssal Starfighters and Zerg Leviathans engaged in combat. While the Abyssal Enclave put up a good fight, it was eventually forced to fall back into defensive positions, in which it broadcasted a simple message to the invaders, requesting an armistice. The Zerg and CSIS forces eventually agreed to their terms, and pulled out of Enclave Space. A few years following this defeat, the Abyssal Motherorganism underwent a traumatic event over its innability to comprehend its defeat despite its supposed perfection, leading it to split off several 'rebel personalities' as their own distinct organisms deep into space.

By 402 the Abyssal Motherorganism had entirely recovered from this traumatic event and adapted itself, allowing the Abyssal Enclave to restart its expansion by conquering the planets of Kaos, Thatosa, Primoda, Keibal, Tethia, Abal, Nulla, Nitora, and Kosuma. In 518 a supernova occurred near the planet Abyssa which killed the Motherorganism despite its best efforts to protect itself (due to its immobility not allowing it to evacuate off-world), stripping away the Enclave's 'central mind'. Surprisingly, this didn't free the Enclave's drones from their Hivemind or allow the Motherorganism to persist in their minds, instead the still connected minds of the drones simply connected with each other to form a new intelligence twisted by the stimulations and impulses used by the Motherorganism to keep them loyal into something much more 'active' and desperate to spread itself as a new, for now unknown, mission overtook its mind. Two years after the death of the Motherorganism, the Abyssal Enclave managed to create a new synthesized Abyssal Connection to spread its hivemind as the secretion used by the Motherorganism had become completely inert after its death.
