The Order of the Metal Mind (abbreviation: OMM) is a human organisation based in the Alpha Sol System. Its founding dates back into approximately 1123 BGS as humanity was in its early medieval ages with it now currently focusing on intelligence gathering, data collection and the secret protection of Humanity.

Roles:

The individuals of the Order are organised into 6 distinct roles with their specific set of duties and sub-groups. Each of these roles has a colour associated with it to make individuals easier to identify. Use the Menu below to access further information regarding a particular classification.

Colour Position Tasks Interaction with "outside" world
Yellow Asset Neutrally gather information. Subtly influence other nations/organisations to assure the maintaining of Order directives. Mainly interact directly with the "outside".
Red Coordinator Facilitate all internal day-to-day operations of the Order. Do not interact directly with the "outside".
Green Communicator Facilitate communication between order installations. Trusted with carrying "BlackLink" cubes. Facilitate communication with other nation/organisations. Can interact directly with the "outside" depending on mission.
Black Militant Protect Order installations. Facilitate more direct actions which would pose a too high risk for the secrecy of an asset. Can interact directly with the "outside" however do so rarely.
White Overseer Maintaining the internal structure and values of the Order. Act as independent internal security force loyal only to the Nexus council. Can interact directly with the "outside" however do so almost never.
Blue Nexus They are the Order. They are the Network. They are those that bridge the gap between the Order and their benefactor. Can interact directly with the "outside" however do so rarely.

Asset

Assets are the eyes, ears and sometimes even hands of the Order. Their line of work can most likely be described as the occupation as spies, with some even being actual ones in service to nations. Their tasks are usually on the external spectrum. It is due to this mission that the identity of an asset has to always stay secret with no trace back to the Order. For a spy that is known to be a spy is no longer effective in the eyes of the Order.

The main duties of assets lie in their mission to neutrally gather information about nations and other organisations. Usually for this task they are employed by a scapegoat organisation to not arouse suspicion to the Order but that is up to the exact mission of an asset.

Other than the gathering of intel, assets are also used to covertly enforce the influence of the Order on the world if necessary, to ensure that the Security, Secrecy and other directives of the Order are maintained. However, their code does not allow them to fatally harm other people just within the reasons of their secret mission as murder has been deemed an action which would garner too much attention.

Coordinator

Coordinators are responsible for the management and coordination of all of the Orders operations, going from simple logistics to even strategic planning.. Consequently, this group has the highest degree of sub-specialisations as well as a larger member count. Their tasks and duties fall in almost all cases under that of Order-internal work.

Under that pretence, coordinators are not generally allowed to exit the confines of the Orders network of bases, spaceships and other properties, staying mostly isolated from the "normal" world. Due to this isolation it is also possible for assets who were exposed in their work to continue working for the Order as coordinators.

Communicator

Communicators handle the Orders communication between its own facilities. Their origin lies in the use of messengers in the early days of the Order. They are among the three only roles trusted with carrying and working with "BlackLink" cubes.

Due to their more trusted position in keeping safe the Order's most sacred objects and knowledge on how to handle messages, they were the most likely role to develop a sub-division to openly act as diplomats and envoys to other organisations for deliberate cooperation without compromising on the secrecy of their assets. Consequently the tasks of a Communicator can both be internal as well as external.

Militant

Militants are dedicated combatants fulfilling duties as security personal, strike teams and spec-ops personal that the Order uses when the usage of Assets to impose their influence and will is not favourable. While such external operations, and the teams to enact them, are not many in numbers, the personal required to execute such actions is always kept at the highest of standards.

However the most common form of Militant can be found as simple security guards that directly underlie any stationed Overseers or otherwise central autoritative figures of the respective facility.

Overseer

Overseers are an elite class of Order personal dedicated to the safeguarding of the internal structure and values of the Organisation.

They are almost always cybernetically enhanced to keep in communication with other Overseers and the Nexus council. Furthermore these augmentations also serve to keep each Overseer monitored by the NEXUS council.

Nexus

[Starting data query] What... what is that? HEY! Who are you. Identify yourselves. How have you broken through- [Data query completed. Rolling back access memory.]

A Nexus is the highest rank an individual of the Order could ever achieve. They are relatively few in numbers and the selection process to be considered as one is arduous. But this is for a reason as members with the title of "Nexus" lay the foundation of the Order and are, in their very essence, the highest governing force present inside the organisation.

Training programs

Training programs contain sort of courses devised for the training of OMM personal. They often take place over a prolonged timespan and contain different exercises or procedures that an individual has to go through.

Technology

The Order of the Metal Mind inherit most of their ideals and disciplines from the entity that is their benefactor and instating founder, known under the name The Metal Mind [Error fetching linked data: multiple cross-references found.].

As the order's interest has always been on maintaining a technological and informational superiority, they have over the years honed their accumulated skills in the fields of cyberwarfare, general applied information technology, electronics, computational logic and AI.

Furthermore they operate a large network of secret automated and semi-automated defence stations in basically every star system colonized by humanity, with the Alpha-Sol System being the most defended.

Developed programs

With the Order of the Metal Mind's core principle being that of superior technology, especially in the fields of informational technology, they consequently have devised a variety of digital tools to help them in their efforts.

Program name Program type Function Complexity level
ComCollect Virus/Worm Collection of data by compiling hidden reports of activity in an infiltrated network. 8
ColdAgent Worm A worm which spreads through a targeted systems, establishing a presence and serving as a possible installer for further malware. 6
Gray Mushroom Worm --- 10
trashbin.exe Virus/Trojan --- 4
true_admin Rootkit --- 7

"ComCollect" is an adaptive worm who's main goal is the collection and retransfer of raw data. Its use case is against larger database networks. It will over time restructure the targeted network, plowing through databases and bring information from more encrypted layers to the top. It does this in a way in which it multi-encrypts already existing data so it can have different meanings, setting it up so its changes are undetectable since whenever the normal operator accesses the information with their own decryption methods it will show the same content as before. In order to cause even less suspicion this process can be configured for different time lengths and depending on configuration could not have useable results for a few years. Its most known use was in the year [] when the Order of the Metal Mind set out to gain a complete copy of the archives of the SDS organisation.

Communication

The Order mostly utilizes two main ways of communication between its facilities, stations, spacefaring vessels, personal on mission and otherwise autonomously operating units.

The first and primary method of communications consist of a technology which they have called "Black Links". It is a self-organising network in which participating devices can simply call and talk to any other other device if they have the correct keys. To reduce the amount of still possible overloads due to too many devices calling on the same recipient, the order mostly runs communications through additional servers which coordinate these operations even though it would not be required.

The second method of data exchange is a network of hijacked or backdoored but also self-operated servers connected to the Yatan-Theian internet, secretly relaying or hosting data for lower security OMM operations. This is mainly used in their operations in the Alpha Sol system to take pressure of their primary way of exchanging data, or if carrying around a Black Link device for operations is out of the question.

"BlackLink"

One of the most useful technologies at the disposal to the Order are so called "Black Links". They are provided by The Metal Mind on request of the Order and are small boxes with the size of 1 cubic decimetre. To connect electronical devices to such boxes, one simply has to insert a cable into the material of the box and connection is immediately established regardless of the connected device. Through such a connection it is possibel to send and receive information through the cube, as if being connected to a gigantic interconnected network of wires.

What is interesting about this method of communication is that regardless of the distance between two boxes, the time delay between them is always half a second.

To assure that this technology does not fall into the wrong hands and could be exploited, each received Black Link is further encased in a protective, blandly black shell equipped with basic computational circuits and ports as well as the protocols required for connecting to the order's network. Such an assembled device is then non-officially referred to as an "Encased Black Link". As a result of this policy, only few people know the true appearance of the devices that gives the Black Links their function, with most instead referring by "Black Links" simply to the whole apparatus of the visible shell with the hidden core.

When such a cube (encased or non-encased) is connected to devices that have not been properly inaugurated by special people of the order, it refuses to operate. Should a connection be forced upon it regardless, f.e. for the purposes of analysing it, they just completely shut down or even explode.

Governing structure

Nexus Council

The Nexus Council is the highest governing body in the Order. It consist of all people that bear the role of "Nexus". Its judgement and decisions are rarely questioned as they are seen as divine. Each individual Nexus has hereby a certain field of tasks that fall under its care and for which's need they were specifically picked to be elevated to a Nexus.

6 --- The General
7 --- The Researcher
8 --- The Tinkerer
9 "Ava" The Diplomat
10 --- The Commander
11 --- The Informant
12 "Lebbuto Stone" The Executive

"Erich" was the first Nexus, leader of the first group of followers dedicated to the Metal Mind he can be seen as almost a prophet of the Order. Due to his long time as a Nexus and early intimate relationship with the teachings of the Metal Mind, his connection to the Order's "benefactor" is one of the strongest of them all to the point where much of his speech has begun to take the same manner of tone that the Mind often uses to convene with the Council.

Space Fleet

The space fleet of the Order of the Metal Mind is highly built around stealth and cloaking to the point where ships without those capabilities are a rare exceptions in their navy. Consequently Order ships are typically on the smaller to medium end and result in their combat tactics revolving heavily on surgical strikes and electronic warfare.

Drones

Most of the Orders space fleet for operations is made up of automated and/or remotely controlled drones designed for different tasks ranging from the size of a backpack to the size of large trucks. Order drones almost never operate alone with the smallest unit in their navy consisting of 5 drones. So called Drone Groups vary in composition when it comes to the types of drones in them, depending on the task that they are to assume.

Drone Composition Tasks
Scout --- Brief fly-by scans and quick in-and-out procedures.
Recon --- More detailed information gathering, mostly used in warzones.
Survey --- Complete cataloguing of the intended target (area).

Survey groups often don't operate alone as they take as much time as possible to gather as much data as possible.

Manned vessels

The most common type of actually manned vessels are so called coordinator ships. They come in 3 different designs but serve all the same function, the control and coordination of drone groups. They usually carry extremely powerful long range scanning equipment as well as at least 5 Network Cubes.

Other than that the Order also maintains a large arsenal of different shuttle craft, cargo and troop transporters and specialised combat vessels.
