The Insurgency against Earthly Colonization of the Backrooms is a radical militaristic organization founded to oppose the SDSB due to their ever-increasing ties with 'standard reality', which undermines the autonomy, wild, and free nature of the inhabitants of the Backrooms System, advocating for a form of socialistic individualist anarchism. While these goals may seem noble, the ways that the Insurgency goes about achieving their goals are highly controversial, typically relying on ambush and scare tactics alongside illegal weaponry like gas and modified firearms.

Insurgency was originally founded in the early 200s by several thousand ex-SDSB members following the signing of the Queason act between the SDSB and SDS Foundation, in which the SDSB agreed to facilitate and allow the SDS to construct containment sites within the Backrooms, which is 'nominally' under their protection. The defectors site this as a betrayal and voluntary agreement to be colonized, and thus rose up in rebellion, and have since then been fighting the SDSB alongside the Sovereign Backrooms Coalition once it formed later on.
