The Folded Forest is a Liminal Sub-Space within the Backrooms System that takes the form of a vast forest which is mirrored into the sky. If you were to climb into mid-air, at the midpoint between the two sides gravity flips, making you fall to the "ceiling", which then becomes the "floor", and vice versa. The Forest itself has several remarkable similarities to a forest on the planet Theia in Baseline Reality, specifically one of the lush forests of central Orientalis. While many sub-spaces with this kind of characteristic do exist, unlike many others the Folded Forest appears to be an exact copy of it's "real" equivalent (other than its mirroring properties) as the 'ceiling', 'floor' and the 'real' forest share identical properties, such as arable soil and flora.
While it may be largely safe, the Folded Forest does have many dangers such as Purities. These Purities exist here despite it lacking a positive effect on sanity, which is a property characteristic to sub-spaces that typically are home to them, as these Purities are "primordial", which means they have been here since the Folded Forest's inception. Another significant hazard is the vertigo that can be experienced when travelling to the ceiling. Note that if you cross at an unsafe point, you also risk injury or even death when you hit the ceiling. This has been widely prevented by using ladders that stretch both ways, or using ways to break someone's fall.
Demographics
Thanks to its largely safe environment the Folded Forest has a small but established population of roughly 12-25 permanent inhabitants and transitory visitors at any given time as of 445, although any established communities or isolated homes must be wary of the Purities that inhabit this sub-space, though luckily they tend not to stray more than 100 metres from their abodes. Unlike most other locations they are unknown to inhabit, the Purities themselves appear to live together and function under some kind of societal structure, though this does not take away their dangerous nature.
