The Maple Forest is a Liminal Sub-Space within the Backrooms System that takes the form of a long road going through the middle of a blood-red forest. This primary road, which continues off from the road in the Lonely Road Sub-Space, traverses through the entirety of the Sub-Space, with only a few natural[1] junctions upon it. Unlike its preceding level, The Maple Forest is considered entirely habitable and rich with various resources, because of which it is considered one of the most favourable places in the entire Backrooms for one to reside. In the forest there are enough supplies to be entirely self-sustainable, with occasional ponds and food sources.

The most significant resource within the Sub-Space is its vast quantities of Maple Syrup, which is its largest export. These also are widely used within the Sub-Space itself to prevent one from becoming a Purity due to the Sub-Space's sanity-boosting effects.

Demographics

The Maple Forest has a fairly large population of 4561 people, of which a majority live in either of the 2 largest settlements.

Mapletown

Mapletown is the second largest community in The Maple Forest, being established and run by Secure-Defend-Subjugate Backrooms. Mapletown primarily acts as a trade hub that thrives in the Maple Syrup trade. It has since then managed to grow to house a significant residential and commercial community.

Silvanus

Silvanus (Officially the "Sovereign City of Silvanus") is the largest community in The Maple Forest. It was initially founded by explorers in the early 300s as a trading outpost, until it eventually grew to the point of becoming a wholly self-governing polity. Silvanus is primarily governed by the City Council, a legislative body composed of 8 elected delegates, one from each of the city districts. This council handles the day to day administration of the city, while together electing the Mayor, whom handles foreign affairs.

Station-Maple

Station-Maple is a military outpost run by the Backrooms Military Administration. The outpost is primarily supplied from the somewhat nearby 'City of Ash', a BMA settlement in the Lonely Road. Though, the presence of Mapletown has prevented Station-Maple from significantly exerting influence or population growth.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • You can enter The Maple Forest by walking to the end of the Lonely Road, which will eventually transition into The Maple Forest.

Exits

  • It is rumoured that traveling too far into the forest may lead to the Decrepit Hospital, although this has never been confirmed
  • Walking back towards the Lonely Road will return you there.
  • If one is to travel too far into the forest after climbing to a much higher elevation within the elvel, one may find a steep drop to either The Chasm or The Outskirts.
  • Jumping down a well found in the forest leads to The Fountain of Youth.
  • Jumping down a storm drain in the road leads to The Mist.
  • If one is to follow the correct road signs that point towards a hill, one will come across The Parkade.
