The Union of Swagonia, more commonly known as Swagonia, was a influential and otherwise significant nation located in the south-easternmost end of Theia. At its height, it controlled almost the entirety of Altilai.
Government
For most of its existence, Swagonia was an anarchist territory, however occasionally a state did form. A notable example of this is in 218, which was the first time this occurred due to the First Swagonian War. These formed temporary states were usually libertarian democracies or republics, with the exception of the final state, which was a Stalinist dictatorship.
Demographics
Swagonian was spoken mainly in the capital of Ciudad Gris, with Spanish spoken in the rural areas around the city. Ciudad Gris also had a very notable Persian minority, which led to the creation of Persia Nuu.
History
Swagonia was founded in 159 by Spanish-speaking settlers of Theia. Originally being just Pueblo de Playa, Swagonia rapidly grew to all of Altilai east of the Jun. Around this time, Swagonia joined the Lilaciahan Empire Pact. Later on, Swagonia also formed the Pog Alliance with the United Floppa Republic. In 193, Swagonia annexed all of Altilai west of the Jun. This caused tensions between Swagonia and the United Floppa Republic, which led to the Swagonian-Floppan War. Swagonia won this war, with minor territorial concessions in the Yanz. After this, Swagonia joined the Settlement Defense Front.
Swagonia had relative peace until 215, when the first state in Swagonia was formed. The vote for this differed by 0.1%, and was most likely rigged in favor of creating a state. The creation of a state in Swagonia created several provinces that later became the basis for the present-day countries in Altilai. In 229, the 23rd of April Movement, noticing discrepancies in the 215 election, declared war on the provisionary Swagonian state, causing the First Swagonian War. This led to the creation of the Empire of Swagonia in Zelenaya Dolina, as the 23rd of April Movement had managed to capture the rest of Swagonia. However, noticing Swagonia's weakness, the United Floppa Republic declared war on both sides, along with Bingustan and Bongustan. This is also the war that led to the long-standing rivalry between Swagonia and Polsk, as Polsk had sided with the Junta. This war also led to the destruction of the Swagonia Twin Towers in 232. Swagonia was completely defeated in this war, losing 90% of their territory, and keeping only Pueblo de Playa. Most of Swagonia broke off into various seperatist countries, with Plompystan, Ard Algharb, Tierra Flopeste, and Jun-Swagoland forming in what used to be Swagonia. However, by 234, Swagonia was able to get Ciudad Gris and Vulcán returned by Jun-Swagoland.
This peace was short-lived, as in 234 the Second Swagonian War started. This war led to the creation of Flopskadi, which for the two years had been horribly gerrymandered into ethnic regions. Although not much territory changed during the Second Swagonian War, it did set the standard for how future Swagonian Wars would look. Peace lasted for 10 years, before the formation of the Pan-Altilai Coalition and the beginning of the Third Swagonian War. Noticing weakness in the United Floppa Republic, all of the former Swagonian states joined together to attempt to overtake it. During this war, Jun-Swagoland merged back with Swagonia, reuniting about half of Swagonia at its peak. This war also saw the first time Swagonia used any weaponry in space, starting with the Swagonian Battle Sattelite. This war ended in stalemate, however causing instability in Polsk.
In 252, the Fourth Swagonian War began after Bingland and Bingterra declared independance from Bingustan, which was at the time a Swagolition member. In 254, Svahkonie voted to join Swagonia. This war ended with the Orientalis Airport coming under the control of Polsk, a Polskan occupation of Swagonia, along with the independance of Bingland and Bingterra. Swagonia had a province rearrangement in 255, with the Polskan occupation ending in 256.
In 282, the Fifth Swagonian War began after a border dispute with Baitang in Reagruparse. This also led to the recreation of Imperial Swagonia. During the war, the Pan-Felinist movement started to form, with the Federal States of Bingustan, Könbatsçir, Ard Algharb, Plompystan, and Bosque Norte being formed. During the war, Swagonia sold off Konyak Sus to the Sogga Union to fund the war effort. This war is what led to the fall of Swagonia, as in 285 most regions that were not the capital declared independence, leaving Swagonia to form into Ciudad Gris.
