The Galactic Federation is a vast interstellar federation of autonomous 'federal states' with territories spanning across much of the central regions of the Milky Way galaxy, in addition to some minor holdings in other regions. Ever since its formation the Galactic Federation has been one of the major players within the galaxy, acting as a superpower alongside the Protoss and Kings. In 393 the Federation was briefly usurped by the Omniphanes Society's "Great Cosmic Commonwealth" until its eventual full restoration in 437 after decades of fighting against its occupiers. The Galactic Federation is a key member of the Galactic Community, even hosting its headquarters in the Ordellia system.

The Galactic Federation is currently under a Military Government descended from the Xan Military District responsible for restoring the Federation, allowing them to sway all other Anti-GCC resistance factions under their reign. The Military Government is under the reigns of Admiral Guin Naxerhs of the Federation Starfleet, whom has assumed the position of 'Provisional Chancellor' with absolute power over all executive decisions until civilian government is properly restored after reconstruction efforts are completed.
