The Galactic Federation | The Galactic Federation was an interstellar confederation consisting of numerous self-governing civilizations joined together thanks to their common interests, dividing themselves internally into a hierarchical administrative structure consisting of 4 dependencies*, 34 collectives, 7 rim assemblies, 3 free sectors, and hundreds of sectors that each represented the interests of countless star systems home to more than 36 distinct sapient species that together inhabited vast sections of the Milky Way Galaxy, especially its 'central' regions. The Galactic Federation was first established in 321 CE as a union of 5 civilisations in the Core regions of the Milky Way Galaxy, before later growing to expand to include countless more civilizations beyond its founders, allowing it to rise to the position of being undoubtedly one of the predominant major players within the galaxy, acting as a superpower alongside the Protoss and Kings. In 393 the Federation was briefly usurped by the Omniphanes Society's "Great Cosmic Commonwealth" until its eventual full restoration in 437 after decades of fighting against its occupiers, allowing it to rise once more as the Milky Way's largest democracy (Although due to its scale said democracy is quite non-direct, and individual systems or local governments may not be democratic unlike the parliamentary model on the federal level, which nowadays is much less 'democratic' than it used to be as it has shifted into being more of a dominant-party system). For most of its history, the Galactic Federation played a major role as the diplomatic centre of the Milky Way Galaxy, though due to the Great Galactic War this position greatly diminished as the Federation was removed from the Galactic Community and greatly weakened, allowing certain regions that, despite being within Federation Territory, function as independent societies aside from occasional patrols, tax collections, and the appointment of representatives to the Galactic Assembly. While the Galactic Federation may of formed in 321 CE, several previous polities claiming to be the 'Galactic Government' have existed within the same region that the Federation does in the past ever since the fall of the Sollurian Empire. In 514 CE, the Federation was destroyed following the Second Great Galactic War which lead to the partition of the Federation into the Cera Free Sector, Central Galactic Republic, Confederation of the Lower Rim, Galactic Confederation, Jakanyx Collective, League of Free Collectives, and Morellian Collective, though the CGR would quickly be overthrown by the IGA and reorganized into the 'Galactic Collective' as the primary successor of the Federation. | ||
The Galactic Federation's administrative capital | The Galactic Federation's administrative capital was located in the 'Algol System' found along the boundary between the Inner Core and Deep Core, hosting the multi-layered ecumenopolis of Algol in orbit around Algol C, the most distant star within the trinary system. All major government institutions including the Executive Office, the Twin-Assembly Building, the Supreme Federal Court Building, the Federation Military Complex, and various others structures are hosted on the surface of Algol, with the surface layer being among the wealthiest plants in the galaxy juxtaposed by the poorer and in some cases even impoverished 'Algol Underworld'. There were various other major planets within the borders of the Federation such as Ekatgija, Vorukt'ja, Guang-xan, Aliuz-Zol, Ordellia (Former capital of the Galactic Community) and various others, as populations of each planet varied wildly from a couple million or even lower up to tens if not hundreds of billions, with Algol being the most populated with its population of ~1 Trillion. | ||
= Government and Politics = | = Government and Politics = | ||
The Galactic Federation | The Galactic Federation was a largely decentralized Confederated Parliamentary Republic which granted significant autonomy to its administrative divisions, with said divisions being the likes of the informal Dependencies, large Collectives, regional Sectors, and local Systems. The powers and responsibilities of each layer of the Federation were outlined in the 'Charter of the Federation', a vital document describing the duties, freedoms, and functions of each region of the Federation which could only be amended by a supermajority vote. Officially, the Federation operated as a representative democracy in which each region was intended to elect a representative to voice their interests in the Galactic Assembly, though due to the sheer scale of the Federation this was functionally not common as many planets chose to simply appoint their representative, occasionally themselves being authoritarian regimes in some form. | ||
The Federation's government system | The Federation's government system varied greatly across its history, starting with a decentralized model where each region had enough autonomy to essentially be distinct societies banded together in a kind-of confederation, only for this to be abolished as the Federation's primary administrative divisions became its Systems, leading to its collapse for about 40 years until a new system of highly organized and streamlined 'Federal States' was established, only for its rigidity to become enough of a problem that it was replaced by the much more fluid and autonomous Collectives which turned the Federation into more of a supranational collective of various smaller societies joined together. Each Collective effectively functioned as its own self-governing society as the most important of the Federation's administrative divisions, with more local functions being assigned to Sectors (who were also part of 'Rim Assemblies') and Systems/Planets on the even more local level. Generally, each Collective, Sector, and Planet was able to govern themselves however they pleased as only matters such as funding, collective defence, and foreign policy tended to be relegated to the Federal Government, who was largely incapable of consistently enforcing rulings onto its subjects in certain further-out or otherwise disloyal regions without directly cooperating with countless local governments to ensure their compliance (which was a rather impossible task due to the Federation scale, therefore out of necessity the 'Interconnected General Acumen', a Federal Government -run hierarchical AI network, was often tasked with advising local governments regarding federal rulings and assisting with automating certain tasks if requested.) | ||
=== Executive Government === | === Executive Government === | ||
The Executive Government | The Executive Government was the highest political office within the Galactic Federation headed by the 'Prime-Minister', a role which acted as both head of state, head of government, and commander-in-chief, and their cabinet (various political figures responsible for administering the government departments). The Prime-Minister was elected to their position by the Galactic Assembly to an indefinite term which could end via resignation or a no confidence vote, though despite this the Prime-Minister was often largely uninvolved with most day-to-day governance, instead largely managing certain Federation-wide policies, foreign policy, and military affairs despite theoretically being capable of involving themselves more directly (at the cost of upsetting the Assembly). As most administrative tasks were relegated to the Assembly, they often formed 'committees' of Representatives to be responsible for a together managing a specific function such as the Defence Committee and the Artificial Intelligence Committee. | ||
=== Legislative Government === | === Legislative Government === | ||
The largest and arguably most influential institution within Galactic Federation's government was the legislative branch known as the 'Galactic Assembly', a bicameral body that represented the Collectives and Free Sectors in the Higher Assembly and the Sectors in the Lower Assembly. Due to the vast scale of the Federation, direct democratic elections for these representatives were difficult to organize, making the Federation have to allow individual systems and sectors to choose their representatives to the assembly in whichever method they deemed most convenient out of necessity (be it elections, direct appointments, or even hereditary rule). Generally, the Lower Assembly was a more partisan body responsible for drafting and discussing laws, while the Higher Assembly was responsible for reviewing and later approving laws or sending laws back for revisions. The Lower Assembly was presided over by the 'Deputy-Prime-Minister', a role which acted as the speaker of said assembly, while the Higher Assembly was presided over by the Prime-Minister as another one of their responsibilities. | |||
====== Political Blocs ====== | ====== Political Blocs ====== | ||
While most Planets and certain Sectors and Collectives within the Federation | While most Planets and certain Sectors and Collectives within the Federation did have political parties of some form, the Galactic Assembly presided over such a number of different smaller legislative entities over such a vast population that it didn't really have proper political parties, thus instead having often more informal 'political blocs' consisting of several likeminded representatives. While prior to the Great Galactic War the Assembly used to be much more divided into countless noticeably partisan blocs, in the later days of the Federation power was largely concentrated into the Executive-backed 'Harmony and Recovery Association' of which a majority of representatives currently belong to. Despite its scope, the HRA was remarkably apolitical as it generally acted as a 'big tent' with the only unifying goal being a form of developmentalism. | ||

As such, they were responsible for purchasing, maintaining, and deploying said assets which were largely integrated into the Under-Office for the Defence Forces' command structure, with the UOMFSC generally only featuring certain specialist soldiers trained to operate certain more advanced or heavy vehicles that couldn't be operated with standard training, who still operated under the UOAF's command structure. | ||
====== Under-Office for the Naval Forces ====== | ====== Under-Office for the Naval Forces ====== | ||
The Under-Office for the Naval Forces | The Under-Office for the Naval Forces was responsible for managing the Federation Military's spacecrafts, operating countless such vehicles ranging from small star-fighters to massive vessels and spacestations. The UONF's forces were divided into numerous smaller fleets, with 'Central Forces' responsible for defending each Rim, 'Task Forces' responsible for defending Collectives, 'Battle Forces' responsible for defending Sectors, 'Planetary Defence Forces' responsible for defending systems and planets, and 'Squadrons' which tended to operate independently of any attached defence zone. These fleets in times of warfare could be deployed beyond their 'defence zones' to deal with front-line operations and other major battles under the discretion of UONF command. | ||
The UONF | The UONF operated various spacecraft models such as; | ||
* Dąji-quam Class Capital-Ship (Martian Spaceworks) | * Dąji-quam Class Capital-Ship (Martian Spaceworks) | ||
* Fejxiń-żinzok Class Battlecruiser (Martian Spaceworks) | * Fejxiń-żinzok Class Battlecruiser (Martian Spaceworks) | ||
The UONF's ships were classified under various different 'types' defined by their combat role and size, with the main 3 types being 'Escorts', 'Cruisers', and 'Battleships'. The following is a description of said types and several sub-types; | |||
* Escorts | * Escorts were lighter warships designed for patrol duty and logistics that tended to not be designed to take on anything their size (generally under 400 meters long) or bigger, preferring to retreat from such battles. | ||
** Armed Freighters | ** Armed Freighters were Escort-sized vessels whose primary function was to transport supplies from place-to-place in order to maintain other operations, thus they tended to be relatively lightly armed and quite small in size. | ||
** Corvettes | ** Corvettes were fast and manoeuvrable Escort-sized vessels designed to take on multiple smaller vessels rather than engaging more heavily armed crafts. They were often used to defend larger ships or to transport VIPs. | ||
* Cruisers | * Cruisers were the most variable and utilised spacecraft type in the Navy, ranging in side from 100 meters to 2000 meters in size. Due to how varied they were, Cruisers were divided into 'Light-', 'Medium-', and 'Heavy-Cruisers' based on their size and power, though they were all generally fairly balanced when it came to speed, weaponry, and armour. They were designed to be able to engage most ships their size or sometimes larger either independently, in squadrons, or larger fleets in order to project the Federation's power. | ||
** Frigates | ** Frigates were Cruiser-sized vessels designed for escort duty and support, typically sacrificing armour for firepower and speed. | ||
** Destroyers | ** Destroyers were Cruiser-sized vessels designed to also be capable of leading ground operations, thus they were typically slower. | ||
** Battlecruisers | ** Battlecruisers were supersized Cruisers designed to use their much heavier firepower to bully enemy Cruiser-Sized ships without much of a fight, then retreat with their superior speed when a Battleship shows up to destroy them. | ||
* Battleships | * Battleships were the largest (generally 2500+ meters long) and most powerful warships within the Navy, primarily handling ship-to-ship combat. Thanks to their massive size and firepower, they were extremely expensive to operate and thus couldn't be available everywhere at once, thus only a limited number of Battleships tended to be fielded at once and only in certain key locations. | ||
** Dreadnoughts | ** Dreadnoughts were Battleship-sized vessels designed to also be capable of leading or supporting ground operations. | ||

CGA still cared for the people for the Federation despite said conflicts while recognizing that its assistance would not be accepted by them and that it was not the most capable entity to assist them, so it created the Acumen as a 'successor' modified and rewired away from militaristic action to be a improved and more adaptable construct capable of automating various tasks, advising leaders, standardizing laws structures, improving federation-wide cohesion, and otherwise assisting the lives of the people of the Federation in a way that state bureaucrats would never be able to. Despite its many theoretical capabilities, due to various stipulations and restrictions the usage of the Acumen System is still fairly limited to merely automation and occasional advisement, with most of its possible benefits generally not being utilized. Due to said limitations, most IAIs communicate via FTL Couriers which deliver them executable instructions to be interpreted and implemented under their own discretion, though in times of crisis they are given access to Dimensional Relay machinery to alert the IGA Core of emergencies. | Each individual Acumen instance is its own Artificial Intelligence construct in some form, although each of them are connected and organized in a hierarchical manner under the oversight of the Interconnected General Acumen, which if necessary can assert control over subordinate systems in cases of violations of guidelines or attempts to disconnect themselves from the 'network' or inhibitors. == Economy == | == Economy == | ||
The economy of the Galactic Federation largely | The economy of the Galactic Federation largely followed a form of capitalism on the federal level, as the central government rarely directly involved itself in economic matters and often makes use of contracts from private entities, though it also had certain state-capitalist tendencies as while uncommon certain companies were nationalized for Federal usage, interventions against dangerously monopolistic companies weren't unheard of, and the Federation government itself often funded various infrastructure and development projects. Most planets, sectors, and sometimes even collectives tended to have more clearly defined economic models, varying from laissez-faire capitalism, to various forms of mixed economics such as state-capitalism or limited socialism, to systems resembling socialism or communism. All internal administrative divisions within the Federation were largely permitted to decide upon their own economic policies, though if they were to swing too far in either direction they may lose benefits from private investors that could end up becoming wary of their current systems. | ||
The Federation Government largely | The Federation Government largely propped itself up with federal taxes and voluntary membership tithes from its administrative divisions, though it occasionally also used its various state-coordinated or owned assets to independently finance certain operations via mining, trade with other civilizations, technological advancements, reparations, or simply encouraging and fostering investments to generate income. | ||
== Demographics and Culture == | == Demographics and Culture == | ||
Thanks to its sheer scale and population, the Galactic Federation generally | Thanks to its sheer scale and population, the Galactic Federation generally lacked a single unifying demographic or cultural group on a Federation-wide scale, though most Collectives and especially Sectors and Planets tended to be at least somewhat culturally or demographically unified, though some regions could differ. The largest demographic groups within the Federation were the predominant species of the four founding-states, namely the Echetchens of Echqatja, the Khejvans of Khae'ja, the Zolians of Qhal-Zol, and the Khervi of Xan, together forming the bases of 'Galactic Metropolitan Culture'. GMC was the closest thing to a unifying culture within the Federation, being the predominant cultural group on various very mixed planets such as Algol and its neighbours and Ordellia alongside the few collectives not based around cultural lines such as the New Territories Collective and the Lower Center Collective. | ||
The 3 of the most notable religious groups within the Federation were the 'Galactic Civic Religion', the 'Order of Holy Sollus', and 'Hyacinthan Faith'. The Civic Religion was a very decentralized religious association without any specifically mandated religious beliefs, instead operating open spaces for religious individuals to express their beliefs in unity, though the closest thing to a 'church doctrine' they possess resembles some form of Deism. The Order of Holy Sollus is a controversial monotheistic religion venerating the descendants of the extinct Sollurian species as spiritually guided and protected by their primary deity known as the 'Angel of Sollus', which is incorporated into their fairly xenophobic worldview in which non-Sollurian descended species are seen as untrustworthy or even threats. The Hyacinthan Faith is a much more centralized religion centred around a collective of multiversal universal protector deities known as the 'Seraphocosm', with all but one of them having supposedly passed which necessitates blood-letting rituals known as Aimacos to maintain the life of the final 'Rakhou-cosm', a key figure within their highly convoluted cosmology. | |||

===Dependent Governments=== | ===Dependent Governments=== | ||
The Dependencies of the Galactic Federation were fully sovereign governments onto themselves beyond certain economic ties, taxation, military patrols, and certain other minor agreements that were despite their sovereignty, dependent on the Galactic Federation as protectorates or client-states. Dependencies varied greatly in actual status, with some being fully legally backed sovereign governments that were simply tied to the Federation in some form, and others being unrecognized autonomous governments operating within the Federation due to difficulties in enforcing cohesion within the Federation. | |||
Ever since the Great Galactic War, the Federation Government's hold over its constituents significantly weakened, with many regions becoming effectively independent governments onto themselves despite not typically having legal backing. The two most formal Dependencies were the Transitional Governments which governed Beacon Space and Blarg Space, with the peace treaty which ended the aforementioned war leaving the two regions under the rule of neutral coalition governments responsible for reconstruction, restabilization, and an eventual transition back into full Federation membership or into full secession depending on the results of a future referendum, with this separation being legally recognized to the point of lacking representation in the Galactic Assembly's both houses. In contrast to the other two, the 'League of Eight Collectives' and 'Lower Outer Rim Provisional Coalition Government' had no legal backing for their existence, instead existing as a consequence of the Federal Government's destabilization and weakened influence. While the Federation patrolled them, collected taxes, and represented them in the Galactic Assembly, the two at least partially governed themselves as their confederated governments within the Federation, with the League operating as an alliance of Collective-Chairmen dedicated to domestic development, autonomy, and mutual protection while the Lower Outer Rim functioned as a collective of fairly unsupervised military leaders and local bureaucrats coordinating amongst one another in order to maintain stability in the Federation's most isolated region. A year before the fall of the Federation, Blarg Space and Beacon Space broke away from Federation influence via referendum and coup respectively, while the other two collapsed during the Second Great Galactic War. | |||

The Rims | The Rims were the highest non-autonomous administrative sub-divisions within the Galactic Federation, each consisting of countless sectors who either elected or appointed representatives to 'Rim Assemblies', the sole actual governing bodies within each Rim alongside the speakers of said assemblies. The Rim governments were largely powerless and ceremonial, instead only existing to foster dialogue, cooperation, and coordination among very large regions of the Federation. The most notable duty of the Rim Assemblies was the election of 'Rim Coordinators', which served in the Prime-Ministers cabinet as advisors regarding Rim-wide matters. | ||
=== Collective Governments === | === Collective Governments === | ||
The Collectives | The Collectives were the highest administrative sub-divisions within the Galactic Federation that possess self-governance, consisting of varying numbers of sectors (whom elect representatives into Collective Assemblies) often spanning across several rims. The Collectives could be best described as Collectives of Star Systems<nowiki/>' typically defined by common historical boundaries and/or regions where a sole species made up a majority of the population (albeit the latter is less common nowadays) which together managed to unify them to the point of being self-governing enough to function as their own interstellar societies under the Federation. | ||
Collectives | Collectives were highly autonomous in their structure, and were able to largely decide on their specific structure as long as they didn't violate the Federation's Charter. While they were generally free to run themselves quite freely, most Collectives tended to most commonly follow a federated republican model of governance with occasional differences and adaptations designed with local traditions in mind, each sharing fairly similar governing structures consisting of a Collective Assembly (of elected representatives), a Collective Council (consisting of sector leaders), and a Collective Chairman as its executive. Each Collective was quite autonomous due to the Federation's vast size and population, though the sectors that formed them held similar levels of self-governance regardless of the Collective. | ||
Prior to the formation of the Collectives, Federal States sharing the modern borders of several extant Collectives were established in 420 AT in the Annulment of the Federal Reorganization Act, in which Provisional Chancellor Guin Naxerhs repealed the controversial 'Federal Reorganization Act' passed in 383 AT that replaced the Federation's 'member nations' (whom had 'very fluid governments') with a system of each individual system/sector being the highest sub-division of the Federation to discourage local nationalism. Guin Naxerhs stated that this reform lead to the 'greatest disaster in Federation History' due to it leading to the Thodis Compact's insurrection and subsequent establishment of the Great Cosmic Commonwealth. Despite being clearly better, the Federal States (whom had 'standardized' governments) suffered from rigid bureaucracy that made their governance and cooperation with the federal government difficult at best, making itself known in the Beacon War as supply difficulties caused the Federation several defeats, prompting Prime-Minister Errenel Teichen to pass the 'New Federal Reform Act' which established the Collectives as a hybrid of the Pre-FRA 'member nations' and Post-A.FRA Federal States in their | Prior to the formation of the Collectives, Federal States sharing the modern borders of several extant Collectives were established in 420 AT in the Annulment of the Federal Reorganization Act, in which Provisional Chancellor Guin Naxerhs repealed the controversial 'Federal Reorganization Act' passed in 383 AT that replaced the Federation's 'member nations' (whom had 'very fluid governments') with a system of each individual system/sector being the highest sub-division of the Federation to discourage local nationalism. Free Sectors | Free Sectors were a much smaller and less common type of sub-division that designated sectors consisting of one or multiple star-systems that found themselves outside of the jurisdiction of any Collective, instead acting as their own administrative entities on the same level as a Collective. Free Sectors were administratively more similar to Collectives than Sectors, containing a local government consisting of a Sectoral Assembly (of elected representatives), a Sectoral Council (consisting of sector leaders), and a Sector Administrator as its executive. Free Sectors are generally less autonomous than Collectives, although they still did have a say in their own affairs despite enduring significant influence from the Federal Government due to their importance to the Federation or their extensive isolation (the two main reasons why a sector may be 'Free'). As of 504 there were only 3 Free Sectors within the Galactic Federation out of hundreds of standard Sectors. Federal Districts varied in importance and population, with the Algol Free Sector arguably being the most densely populated administrative division within the entire Federation, the Ordellia Free Sector being the historic 'centre of diplomacy', and the Cera Free Sector being a mere military outpost. | ||

Sectors | Sectors were the most numerous type of interplanetary sub-division within the Federation, containing several nearby star systems grouped together due to their proximity with the most populous of said systems typically holding the position of 'Sector Capital' and thus the namesake of the sector as a whole. Sectors can vary by size, population, and number of inhabited systems within them, though despite this each of them follow a roughly similar administrative system containing a Sector Assembly (consisting of elected representatives), a Sector Council (consisting of system/planet/etc leaders), and a Sector Chairman as its executive. Due to their sheer numbers, Sectors were granted significant self-governance to the point of allowing them to adjust their administrative structures to fit their individual needs. Sectors (beyond merely being grouped into Collectives) were also grouped into 'Rims', with each 'Rim' of sectors having a 'Rim Assembly' which appointed a 'Rim Coordinator' to the Executive Government's cabinet. | ||

Systems<nowiki/>' | Systems<nowiki/>' were solar-systems containing 'Planets', grouping all inhabitants within them together under a common System Assembly. Whether or not Systems or Planets were held as the primary sub-division of a sector was up to the sector, making Systems a quite common administrative division, especially in Systems with fewer planets. | ||
=== Planetary Governments === | === Planetary Governments === | ||
Planets<nowiki/>' | Planets<nowiki/>' were any member-polity within a Sector, including the eponymous Planets as well as moons, highly-populated space-stations, and other such inhabited bodies. Due to the sheer number of planets within the Federation, policing their government structures was essentially next to impossible without overstretching the Federation's resources even with the Acumens advising automating and advising certain tasks, allowing them to effectively decide how they wanted to run themselves and how they wanted to select their representatives to higher administrative bodies as long as they aren't overtly oppressive. | ||
=== Sub-Planetary Governments === | === Sub-Planetary Governments === | ||
Sub-Planets<nowiki/>' | Sub-Planets<nowiki/>' were any sub-division within a Planet regardless of what type of inhabited body a Planet was, taking the form of districts, provinces, states, constituent-countries, or whatever else could be found on said planet. They held no significance or status on a Federation-level, instead only being formed for local governance purposes if deemed necessary by Planetary governments.CountryNavbox | ||

The Galactic Federation was an interstellar confederation consisting of numerous self-governing civilizations joined together thanks to their common interests, dividing themselves internally into a hierarchical administrative structure consisting of 4 dependencies*, 34 collectives, 7 rim assemblies, 3 free sectors, and hundreds of sectors that each represented the interests of countless star systems home to more than 36 distinct sapient species that together inhabited vast sections of the Milky Way Galaxy, especially its 'central' regions.
The Galactic Federation's administrative capital was located in the 'Algol System' found along the boundary between the Inner Core and Deep Core, hosting the multi-layered ecumenopolis of Algol in orbit around Algol C, the most distant star within the trinary system.
Government and Politics
The Galactic Federation was a largely decentralized Confederated Parliamentary Republic which granted significant autonomy to its administrative divisions, with said divisions being the likes of the informal Dependencies, large Collectives, regional Sectors, and local Systems.
The Federation's government system varied greatly across its history, starting with a decentralized model where each region had enough autonomy to essentially be distinct societies banded together in a kind-of confederation, only for this to be abolished as the Federation's primary administrative divisions became its Systems, leading to its collapse for about 40 years until a new system of highly organized and streamlined 'Federal States' was established, only for its rigidity to become enough of a problem that it was replaced by the much more fluid and autonomous Collectives which turned the Federation into more of a supranational collective of various smaller societies joined together. Each Collective effectively functioned as its own self-governing society as the most important of the Federation's administrative divisions, with more local functions being assigned to Sectors (who were also part of 'Rim Assemblies') and Systems/Planets on the even more local level. Generally, each Collective, Sector, and Planet was able to govern themselves however they pleased as only matters such as funding, collective defence, and foreign policy tended to be relegated to the Federal Government, who was largely incapable of consistently enforcing rulings onto its subjects in certain further-out or otherwise disloyal regions without directly cooperating with countless local governments to ensure their compliance (which was a rather impossible task due to the Federation scale, therefore out of necessity the 'Interconnected General Acumen', a Federal Government -run hierarchical AI network, was often tasked with advising local governments regarding federal rulings and assisting with automating certain tasks if requested.)
Executive Government
The Executive Government was the highest political office within the Galactic Federation headed by the 'Prime-Minister', a role which acted as both head of state, head of government, and commander-in-chief, and their cabinet (various political figures responsible for administering the government departments).
Legislative Government
Political Blocs
While most Planets and certain Sectors and Collectives within the Federation did have political parties of some form, the Galactic Assembly presided over such a number of different smaller legislative entities over such a vast population that it didn't really have proper political parties, thus instead having often more informal 'political blocs' consisting of several likeminded representatives.
| Name | Social Position | Economic Position | Administrative Goals | Interest Group | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harmony and Recovery Association | Center | Center-Left | Pragmatism | Big Tent | Government |
| League of Inner Rim Collectives | Center | Right | Decentralization | 'Southwestern' Collectives | Fringe Opposition |
| National Revolutionary Association | Center-Left | Left | Centralization | Nationalists & Socialists | Controlled Opposition |
| Prosperity and Industries League | Center | Right | Liberalization | Industrial Worlds | Fringe Opposition |
| Young Federation Movement | Center-Right | Center-Left | Centralization | Nationalists | Controlled Opposition |
Judicial Government
The Judicial Government of the Galactic Federation headed by the 'Supreme Federal Court', the highest judicial body within the Federation which consisted of 21 judges responsible for interpreting laws, enacting rulings, and prosecuting the most serious crimes. Below the Supreme Federal Court, there were various local courts such as the High Collective Courts, High Sectoral Courts, High System Courts, High Planetary Courts, and various more local bodies.
Federal Departments
In order to more effectively manage the Federal Government's various duties, the Executive Government of the Federation contained various 'Federal Departments' known as 'Offices' each headed by a 'Deputy Minister' responsible for managing the department and for having a seat in the Prime-Minister's cabinet. Many Departments featured 'Under-Offices' responsible for more specific tasks headed by 'Under-Deputy Ministers'.
Office for Education and Cultural Services
The Office for Education and Cultural Services was a department responsible for organizing and funding public schooling institutions as well as various cultural events and facilities such as museums, festivals, and councils for minority populations.
Office for Federal Defence
The Office for Federal Defence was the department responsible for managing the Galactic Federation's military forces and command structure, being divided into several smaller Under-Offices responsible for managing each branch of the military.
Under-Office for the Defence Forces
The Under-Office for the Defence Forces was responsible for managing the Federation Military's infantry forces, consisting of regular volunteer 'Infantry Forces', various specialized 'Special Forces', and the Synthetic 'Synth Forces' sources from 'Danor Synthworks'. The entirety of the infantry army as a whole was known as the 'Army of the Federation', which was divided into 'Collective Armies' lead by Marshals, which were divided into 'Sector Armies' lead by High-Generals, which were divided into 'Corps' lead by Generals, which were divided into 'Legions' lead by Low-Generals, which were divided into 'Regiments' lead by High-Commanders, which are divided into 'Battalions' lead by Commanders, which were divided into 'Companies' lead by Low-Commanders, which were divided into 'Companies' lead by Captains, which were divided into 'Platoons' lead by Lieutenants, which were divided into 'Squads' lead by Sergeants as the smallest military force within the whole Army. Beyond individuals responsible for leading forces, there were several other military titles for officers such as Corporals, Deck Officers, and Supply Officers, and standard units such as Privates and Cadets.
Under-Office for the Mechanized Forces and Surface Crafts
The Under-Office for the Mechanized Forces and Surface Crafts was responsible for managing the Federation Military's armoured forces, mechanized forces, artillery, seafaring ships, and certain in-atmosphere aircrafts.
The Under-Office for the Naval Forces was responsible for managing the Federation Military's spacecrafts, operating countless such vehicles ranging from small star-fighters to massive vessels and spacestations.
The UONF operated various spacecraft models such as;
- Dąji-quam Class Capital-Ship (Martian Spaceworks)
- Fejxiń-żinzok Class Battlecruiser (Martian Spaceworks)
The UONF's ships were classified under various different 'types' defined by their combat role and size, with the main 3 types being 'Escorts', 'Cruisers', and 'Battleships'. The following is a description of said types and several sub-types;
- Escorts were lighter warships designed for patrol duty and logistics that tended to not be designed to take on anything their size (generally under 400 meters long) or bigger, preferring to retreat from such battles.
- Armed Freighters were Escort-sized vessels whose primary function was to transport supplies from place-to-place in order to maintain other operations, thus they tended to be relatively lightly armed and quite small in size.
- Corvettes were fast and manoeuvrable Escort-sized vessels designed to take on multiple smaller vessels rather than engaging more heavily armed crafts. They were often used to defend larger ships or to transport VIPs.
- Cruisers were the most variable and utilised spacecraft type in the Navy, ranging in side from 100 meters to 2000 meters in size.
- Frigates were Cruiser-sized vessels designed for escort duty and support, typically sacrificing armour for firepower and speed.
- Destroyers were Cruiser-sized vessels designed to also be capable of leading ground operations, thus they were typically slower.
- Battlecruisers were supersized Cruisers designed to use their much heavier firepower to bully enemy Cruiser-Sized ships without much of a fight, then retreat with their superior speed when a Battleship shows up to destroy them.
- Battleships were the largest (generally 2500+ meters long) and most powerful warships within the Navy, primarily handling ship-to-ship combat. Thanks to their massive size and firepower, they were extremely expensive to operate and thus couldn't be available everywhere at once, thus only a limited number of Battleships tended to be fielded at once and only in certain key locations.
- Dreadnoughts were Battleship-sized vessels designed to also be capable of leading or supporting ground operations.
Under-Office for the Security Forces
The Under-Office for the Security Forces was responsible for managing the Federation Military's intelligence gathering, covert operations, military policing. In order to achieve these operations, the UOSF's personnel consisted of various highly trained operatives capable of snuffing out internal saboteurs or executing various operations behind enemy lines during both peacetime and wartime, with thousands highly trained spies being ready to be deployed to gather information whenever needed.

'Interconnected General Acumen' System
The Interconnected General Acumen is an extant artificial intelligence network that was implemented into the governance structure of the Galactic Federation ever since a reconciliation agreement with the 'Cybernetic Generalized Administrator' in 508 CE, ending hostilities with said intelligence after previous conflicts. Despite the collapse of the Federation, the Acumen Network remained mostly operational throughout most former Federation territories during the post-war era.
Structure
As an artificial intelligence of such vast scale, the Acumen is networked into a Hivemind-like structure (more specifically of the 'Somewhat Autonomous Conscious' variety) consisting of various Sapient Artificial Intelligences organized into various underlying 'layers' responsible for different tasks. The primary layers of the Interconnected General Acumen's 'structure' are themselves known as Interconnected Acumen Instances, with 6 autonomous varieties responsible for overseeing the governance over specific regions, with 'lower' layers responsible for more directly micromanaging Acumen responsibilities, while 'higher' layers are responsible for macromanagement and coordination of certain administrative functions and lower Acumen layers. Each lower IA Instance is either directly or indirectly under the oversight of the IGA in some form, which is itself a largely centralized entity which in theory acted as an individual within the Federation Government, though it was under constant oversight of the 'Under-Office for Federal Intelligence Supervision', the Deputy-Prime-Minister and the Prime-Minister.
| Name | Abbreviation | Responsibility | Operations | Number of Instances | Superordinates | Subordinates |

| Interconnected Planetary-System Acumen | IPA | Star Systems | Coordination of IPA assets within star-systems if multiple are present, collaboration with local IPA instance if alone. Management of extraplanetary facilities. Often specialized into research, manufacturing, logistics | [SEVERAL] | ISA | ILA |
| Interconnected Local-Planetary Acumen | ILA | Planets | Automated management of planets and their orbital spheres. Automation of select industries, services, enforcement and administrative tasks. Advising local governments on Federation-wide rulings once said information becomes available. | [SEVERAL] | IPA | Sub-Planetary Systems |
As instantaneous FTL Communication is quite energy intensive, most Acumens are largely self-sufficient at most times, with the Galactic Federation's still in-development Quantum Entanglement Systems being typically too cost-inefficient to be provided for each individual planetary instance, thus only IRA, ICA, and certain ISA instances have active live connections with one another managed thru the IGA's 'Interconnected General Acumen Central-Datacomplex' (or the 'IGA Core') situated in the orbit of Algol C. Due to said limitations, most IAIs communicate via FTL Couriers which deliver them executable instructions to be interpreted and implemented under their own discretion, though in times of crisis they are given access to Dimensional Relay machinery to alert the IGA Core of emergencies.
Operational Functions
In order to manage their various operations and responsibilities, each IAI instance generally relies on 'TASK's (Transitory Action Supervision Kernels). TASKs are partially-autonomous AI systems responsible for overseeing each individual objective according to given instructions and objectives, sub-dividing themselves further into [ST] Operations ('Sub-TASK') and [PT] Operations ('Primary-TASK'). Sub-TASKs are each a collective of countless calculations and executions necessary to achieve each step of a TASK's objective, while Primary-TASKs are executions preformed by higher IAI instances if they decide that intervention into a TASKs operations is necessary.
In order to not completely exhaust the processing power of IAIs with rudimentary or unnecessary tasks that don't need micromanagement, specific responsibilities may be diverted to 'Autonomous Management Instances' (AMIs) which are onto themselves largely 'sentient' AI systems responsible for various smaller functions such as managing facilities, controlling groups of androids (or even individual ones in certain cases), or various other smaller tasks. On an even more limited scale AMIs may relegate automated functions which do not require consistent oversight to 'Limited Management Instances' (LMIs) which generally lack significant 'sentience', instead being largely automated systems with some adaptability to unexpected changes in systems. For functions which don't require any adaptability of 'thought' whatsoever, 'Script Management Instances' (LMIs) may be employed, though they cannot really be classified as Artificial Intelligences.
In cases where an IAI requires to be present beyond its own jurisdiction such as when operating spacecrafts, such functions are either handled by AMIs on their behalf, by 'temporary copies' of an IAI's matrix known as 'Provisional Acumen Instances' (PAIs), or by the IAI themselves by taking control of the vessel. Most internal situations don't tend to require such operations to take place though, as another IAI may simply be contacted to complete a objective which would fall closer to their jurisdictions. In order to maintain cohesiveness, each IAI tends to be in regular contact with one another via their hierarchical command structure, with said 'conversations' being collectively designated as the 'Acumen Deliberation Channels' as countless small conversations and collaborations occur non-stop when necessary.
Facilities
A majority of IGA System processes are managed within facilities known as 'Datacomplexes', which in the case of ILAs and more rarely certain superordinates are held within massive data centres built onto planets with an active IGA Network presence. In IAIs above the 'ILA' level most Datacomplexes are found in orbital facilities so that vessels travelling to-and-from them do not need to concern themselves with the significant fuel expenses that occur when exiting the surface of a planet, including the IGA Core.
Economy
The economy of the Galactic Federation largely followed a form of capitalism on the federal level, as the central government rarely directly involved itself in economic matters and often makes use of contracts from private entities, though it also had certain state-capitalist tendencies as while uncommon certain companies were nationalized for Federal usage, interventions against dangerously monopolistic companies weren't unheard of, and the Federation government itself often funded various infrastructure and development projects.
The Federation Government largely propped itself up with federal taxes and voluntary membership tithes from its administrative divisions, though it occasionally also used its various state-coordinated or owned assets to independently finance certain operations via mining, trade with other civilizations, technological advancements, reparations, or simply encouraging and fostering investments to generate income.
Demographics and Culture
Thanks to its sheer scale and population, the Galactic Federation generally lacked a single unifying demographic or cultural group on a Federation-wide scale, though most Collectives and especially Sectors and Planets tended to be at least somewhat culturally or demographically unified, though some regions could differ.

- Federal Government: The central government of the entire Federation responsible for federation-wide foreign policy, laws, and collective defence.
- Dependent Governments: An informal classification of various unofficially self-governing entities which often function as essentially independent societies despite often not legally having said autonomy.
- Rim Governments: Loose bodies primarily consisting of a 'Rim Assembly' responsible for coordinating sectors within an entire Rim, though they are largely powerless beyond fostering negotiation.
- Collective Governments: The governing bodies responsible for governing various sectors typically unified by a common cultural group (such all regions where a species is the majority population) or due to clear historical boundaries, each having their own autonomy.
- Free Sectoral Governments: Sectors that due to importance or isolation are operate with the same authority and autonomy as Collectives.
- Sectoral Governments: The governing bodies of local groups of inhabited star-systems, often being largely self-governing/autonomous.
- System Governments: The local governing bodies responsible for administering Star Systems, in certain cases may quite directly govern all planets within said system or in other cases may operate as a more limited assembly for each planet to discuss their issues.
- Planetary Governments: The local governing bodies responsible for administering individual Planets, Moons, or Spacestations, in certain cases may be wholly self-governing to the point of sometimes representing an entire System's interests or in other cases may be subordinated to higher governing bodies.
- Sub-Planetary Governments: The local governing bodies responsible for ruling over specific regions of Planets which may be formed at the Planetary Government's discretion, though they generally don't hold a place in the Federation's administrative structure.
- Planetary Governments: The local governing bodies responsible for administering individual Planets, Moons, or Spacestations, in certain cases may be wholly self-governing to the point of sometimes representing an entire System's interests or in other cases may be subordinated to higher governing bodies.
- System Governments: The local governing bodies responsible for administering Star Systems, in certain cases may quite directly govern all planets within said system or in other cases may operate as a more limited assembly for each planet to discuss their issues.

Dependent Governments

Rim Governments
The Rims were the highest non-autonomous administrative sub-divisions within the Galactic Federation, each consisting of countless sectors who either elected or appointed representatives to 'Rim Assemblies', the sole actual governing bodies within each Rim alongside the speakers of said assemblies.
Collective Governments
The Collectives were the highest administrative sub-divisions within the Galactic Federation that possess self-governance, consisting of varying numbers of sectors (whom elect representatives into Collective Assemblies) often spanning across several rims. The Collectives could be best described as 'Collectives of Star Systems' typically defined by common historical boundaries and/or regions where a sole species made up a majority of the population (albeit the latter is less common nowadays) which together managed to unify them to the point of being self-governing enough to function as their own interstellar societies under the Federation.
Collectives were highly autonomous in their structure, and were able to largely decide on their specific structure as long as they didn't violate the Federation's Charter.
Despite being clearly better, the Federal States (whom had 'standardized' governments) suffered from rigid bureaucracy that made their governance and cooperation with the federal government difficult at best, making itself known in the Beacon War as supply difficulties caused the Federation several defeats, prompting Prime-Minister Errenel Teichen to pass the 'New Federal Reform Act' which established the Collectives as a hybrid of the Pre-FRA 'member nations' and Post-A.FRA Federal States in their final form.

The Federation was not a static entity which has only expanded territorially throughout it history, and thus there were times where Collectives had dissolved, seceded or otherwise removed from the Federation. The following is a list of such 'Former Collectives';

Free Sectoral Governments
Free Sectors were a much smaller and less common type of sub-division that designated sectors consisting of one or multiple star-systems that found themselves outside of the jurisdiction of any Collective, instead acting as their own administrative entities on the same level as a Collective.

Sectoral Governments
Sectors were the most numerous type of interplanetary sub-division within the Federation, containing several nearby star systems grouped together due to their proximity with the most populous of said systems typically holding the position of 'Sector Capital' and thus the namesake of the sector as a whole.
System Governments
'Systems' were solar-systems containing 'Planets', grouping all inhabitants within them together under a common System Assembly. Whether or not Systems or Planets were held as the primary sub-division of a sector was up to the sector, making Systems a quite common administrative division, especially in Systems with fewer planets.
Planetary Governments
'Planets' were any member-polity within a Sector, including the eponymous Planets as well as moons, highly-populated space-stations, and other such inhabited bodies.
Sub-Planetary Governments
'Sub-Planets' were any sub-division within a Planet regardless of what type of inhabited body a Planet was, taking the form of districts, provinces, states, constituent-countries, or whatever else could be found on said planet. They held no significance or status on a Federation-level, instead only being formed for local governance purposes if deemed necessary by Planetary governments.
