The Dark World is a Liminal Sub-Space within the Backrooms System that takes the form of a long, dark, and enclosed pathway. Most of the pathway is structured around steep cliffs and drops. When the level is entered you will be sent to a long dark hallway which cannot be exited. Once you head to the end of the hallway, the flor will open up below you and drop you into the pathway/cliffs section. Most of these cliffs are made of stone, and are generally safe. If you keep traveling down the paths and cliffs you will eventually come across a town, which has an exit from the level[1].

The level also has several undocumented areas deeper beyond this point if you go past the town, although no proper exploration has been done to this area to document it.

History

  • ~16000 BCE: A long-lost culture made its way through the explored areas of the Dark World into its deeper areas.
  • 169: The SDSB launched some small expeditions into the undocumented areas, though all discoveries from the area were classified.

Demographics

There is a fairly large population within The Dark World, though most of them live in one settlement. Outside of this settlement, there are some transitory wanderers going through the pathways/cliffs, and some smaller camps across the level. The population in the undocumented areas is unknown, but based on what is known it is likely inhabited by mysterious entities.

The Light

A majority of the humans living in the level live within a single settlement, this being The Light. Castletown is run by a mysterious group calling themselves "The Darkened", which are ideologically worrisome although friendly to people passing through. Trying to live in The Light without being a member of The Darkened is not recommended.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Climbing up the blue vine in the Tall Forest within The Dark Forest leads here.

Exits

  • Entering the exit within The Light leads to The Crooked House.
  • Falling into some holes in the cliffs/pathways also lead to The Crooked House, although to some obscure uninhabited sections.

  1. Though falling down some holes in the cliffs also act as "exits", although falling often is fatal.
