The Great Sleep

The Great Sleep was a Yatan global pandemic of Scandimaro Sleeping Sickness that lasted from 318 BCE to 0 CE, caused by the triosephosphate isomerase prion.
The disease was first identified in 318 BCE in Cajunia, prompting the mass quarantine of infected individuals into "dormitories." Attempts to contain it had failed, due to ineffective pharmaceutical efforts to create a highly sought-after retroviral drug (as the pathogen was, in fact, believed to be a virus) due to the Zantozacorian economic crisis forcing their closures.
The infectious stage lasted 18 years, with the final human contracting the disease in the year 300 BCE, with the first to awaken only doing so in 0 CE. Aside from infecting all living humans, the pandemic resulted in an estimated 10 million indirect deaths, most of which were directly attributed to immediate circumstances at the point of falling into a coma (such as dangerous activities that require constant attention), while an estimated 1.2 million deaths were from suffocation due to the disposal of bodies in mass graves on the presumption that they were in fact dead.
Eventually in 1 BCE an unknown anomaly caused the pandemic to fade over the period of a year, allowing humanity to rise again despite losing its memory of the past[1].
