Towards the end of 95 CE claims of the government of Italy being run by the Italian Mafia began to circulate, which President Mario Mario denied, though many of those which made these accusations began to disappear or suddenly die, raising suspicion. Eventually it was revealed that Italy was in fact run by the mafia, leading to largescale riots. After months of chaos, the situation got out of control as the protestors declared the formation of the New Italian Republic during spring 96 CE in a revolution against the mafia-led government. The NIR spread across the country rapidly before the Italian government could effectively respond after it restabilised itself in the mainland countryside after Sicily, Napoli, and Lecce fell. Seeing that taking down the enemy leader would be the most feasible option, President Mario Mario began hunting this supposed leader. The Neapolitan and Sicilian armies of the NIR converged in Calabria to fight back against the government advances, pushing back rapidly until the Government launched an invasion of Palermo, where the leader of the NIR was found. This leader ended up being Luigi Mario, shocking Mario Mario as Luigi explained he was jealous that Mario was made the leader of the Mario Mafia, after this he was forced to stop the rebellion. After Luigi was detained Mario pulled a gun out and pointed it to Luigi's head until suddenly someone shot Mario from behind, allowing Luigi to shoot the soldiers that were in the room with them.
After the war had concluded Italy was left without leadership, leading to them holding elections which were won by some guy called Luigi.
