Yorica began falling into economic instability as more and more wealth was concentrated into the hands of the state of California, prompting them to raise taxes on California and lower taxes elsewhere in an attempt to restore order. California was worried this would impact it negatively, but Yorica clarified it was necessary as several smaller states were actively falling into economic recessions. Combined with Yorica's economic issues and its several controversial foreign interventions lead to extreme instability in the more progressive New England region, where communist groups had organized and taken up arms, leading to California's left-wing government becoming concerned as Yorica's staunchly neoconservative government cracked down on all kinds of socialist thought to combat the new 'Socialist States of Yorica' in the northeast.
California was reluctant to send support to the federal government's efforts, but was regardless forced to comply due to it being constitutionally required during war time. The Yorican government instated a 'White Terror' in which all socialist sympathisers were rounded up and detained or executed, which grew unpopular in more individualist regions such as Texas which saw it as over-reach, prompting the Texans (Who occupied parts of Charaland) and Californians to launch a joint uprising against the Federal Government in order to end the bloodshed and restore democracy in opposition to Yorica's nationalist conservatism, soon being followed by Oklahoma. Yorica quickly moved to crush this revolt, prompting Texas and California to occupy the state of Deseret in order to establish a permanent supply route, thru which California delivered nuclear weapons to Texas to use as a bargaining chip. A massive Yorican army arrived to crush the revolts by ransacking, prompting California to initiate its plan by officially declaring independence and demanding a peace treaty, which Yorica refused as it called this unconstitutional, prompting Oklahoma and Texas to do the same. California tried to convince Yorica to let them go by threatening its control over Yorica's trade and offering open border treaties, which Yorica responded to by launching an invasion of California.
Seeking to improve their position, California and Texas armed surviving Confederate veterans from the (first) Yorican Civil War hiding out in Louisiana, pulling back so they could slip past Yorica's lines and incite a revolt in the deep south. As Yorica refused yet another call for peace, California and Texas moved to occupy the rest of Deseret while remarking that Yorica's continued efforts to try to fight off the revolts made it feel like it was not just about restoring order but about their very survival. Yorica focused its attention on crushing the Confederates, allowing the Free States to launch a counteroffensive in Oklahoma around the same time that Cascadia broke free as well, although most of its territory soon fell to Yorican forces as only the southwest was able to hold out. Yorica refused yet another peace offer, prompting California to unload Asophanian and Denasolin troops onto the front. The local government of Deseret demanded that the Free States end their occupation of the region, which they agreed to, prompting Deseret to realise that the Free States were the better faction as they declared their own independence.
The Free States began seeing victory after victory despite their initial struggles, soon allowing all of their claimed territories to be liberated. Texas noted that it spotted a massive Yorican fleet leaving port and heading thru the Panama Canal, making Cascadia suspicious as little to no attacks were occurring on the front. While the Socialists finally broke out of the northeast and advanced onto Yorica's capital of Emiro, the Yorican fleet was spotted near California's coastline, dividing in two as ships deployed soldiers onto the coasts, though this operation soon ended in disaster as Free States forces crushed the undersupplied marines. Yorica promptly launched an offensive on the main front while the Free States were distracted, which also ended in failure. Yorica in desperation was forced to turn to a defensive strategy rather than pursuing offensives, prompting Texas and California to send forces to reinvigorate the Confederates, allowing their new second uprising to now gain support of the southern public as the Federal Government had been proven to be weakened, allowing many of the Confederates' claims to quickly be liberated as they officially declared independence. The Free States launched their first offensive past their claimed borders, instigating a native american uprising to occur as the 'Republic of Lakotah' was proclaimed. Having now been limited to only a small enclave in the midwest, the remaining soldiers loyal to the Federal Government soon fell into disarray as the Socialists seized all remaining lands held by the federalists. The Socialists did demand that all of the other factions submit to them in order to reunify the country, but this largely failed as no-one accepted and the Socialists didn't try to enforce these demands. The final fighting was a series of brief clashes between the Free States and Lakotans over Free State occupation in Lakotah territories, though cooler heads prevailed as the Free States willingly withdrew in order to avoid a conflict.
