After years of dictatorial rule, the citizens of Goldaria had enough of President Meles, promptly leading to Pro-Democracy officers launching a coup and overthrowing the current government, only for Meles to escape after the coup succeeded as he joined a radical extremist group in the west of the country known as the 'National Liberation Front of Goldaria' opposing the new Goldarian Democratic Army, which gained the support of Aparty. The capital of Galas quickly fell to the NLF, forcing the GDA to relocate to the city of Meteleya in the east, though it was swiftly encircled as they were forced to evacuate to the centre of Goldaria. Goldaria began to fracture further as the Somali Liberation Army and Afarian Transitional Council broke free, with the SLA seeking to free itself from oppression and the ATC seceding over being arguably the most economically important region despite never getting much government attention. The most intense fighting began in the northern region of the Somali Federal State between the GDA and SLA, soon being followed by clashes between the ATC and GDA. The NLF launched a surprise offensive northwards, pushing all the way to the Red Sea as significant GDA and ATC forces were cut off in the north-west, prompting the two to sign a cease fire and combine their efforts, which was quite unpopular in the ATC as those against cooperating with the GDA split off and formed the 'Afarian Independence Movement'.
The increasingly chaotic situation in Goldaria made Aparty withdraw support for the GDA and instead join their own side, launching an invasion of the north-east. Aparty occupied the island of Socotra, leading to hostile reactions from nearly all factions. A second Somali uprising began as the 'Democratic Somali Republic' was declared in Hobyo. Both Somali factions attempted to convince Aparty to aid them, but Aparty insisted on annexing the Somalis which lead to them deciding to fight off the Apartians. Aparty also landed in Afarian lands, while the GDA finally managed to reclaim Galas from the NLF. The SLA and DSR agreed on a unification agreement, proclaiming the 'Democratic Republic of Somalia'. The NLF began to rapidly collapse as the GDA and ATC launched mass offensives that cut off significant portions of NLF armies. As the NLF was destroyed, the Democratic Government consisting of the GDA and ATC decided to sign a cease fire with the Democratic Republic of Somalia in order to combine their efforts against the rapidly advancing Apartians, which they saw as a grave threat, leading to the establishment of the Joint Occupation Zones. Aparty was willing to accept peace, leading to the GDA and DSR managing to pressure them into withdrawing from all Goldarian territories.
The ATC willingly unified into the GDA's government, while the DSR still insisted on Somali independence, leading to both of them threatening to go to war again until they realised that Aparty would simply invade them again, leading to the formation of a confederation between Goldaria's 3 Federal States known as the 'State Union of Goldaria'.
