Gushihan Khan, the ruler of the Utsongan Khanate, was assassinated without having declared who his successor would be. His 3 sons, Dayan Khan, Songsten Khan, and Gyatso Khan could not decide on who should be the next ruler, leading to the country tearing itself apart over the issue. The battle began with Dayan leading his forces to conquer the capital of Lhasa from Gyatso, though suddenly Songsten's army marched forth from Gêrzê, surrounding both Dayan's and Gyatso's armies in the Lhasa area as most of the country swiftly fell to his forces. Dayan and Gyatso suddenly begged for mercy and attempted to convince Songsten to accept a negotiated peace, though this failed as Songsten swiftly destroyed all remaining opposition. After having secured his position, Songsten was proclaimed as the next Khan of Utsong, leading the country down a much more militaristic path as he proclaimed his intentions of universal conquest under the new Utsongan Empire in the next year.
