During the Accord-YNF War, Kalevala had been divided into 4 local military districts designed to independently defend against the invaders due to being cut off from one another, though once the war was over the Kalevian government demanded that each district reintegrate themselves, which the Sapmi-Pohjola and Tanume Military Districts both agreed to do, but the Zapadoluvakhian Military District refused, leading to war as the Kalevian government moved to reassert its control there. As Kalevala invaded, the Zapadoluvakhia Military District officially declared itself to be an independent state dedicated to liberating the Northwest Rus, vowing to adopt a democratic government and its own national identity after the war was over. Now having broad public support, Zapadoluvakhia began to push back the Kalevian invasion in some places, inspiring smallscale revolts in regions such as Tanume which lead to Groys-Baltik joining the war in order to liberate the region. With Kalevala distracted with the Tanume front, Zapadoluvakhia launched a massive (albeit somewhat disorganized) offensive to reclaim occupied lands, though once all Kalevian forces were kicked out of Tanume they were able to reorganize and launch a series of counteroffensives against the Zapadoluvakhians in Kola and Ladoga Karelia.
With Kalevala distracted in the east, Svealand decided to use this opportunity to fully assert its rule over the Torne Zone, demanding an immediate withdrawal of Kalevian forces or else they would intervene in the war, leading to a Svealish invasion once Kalevala refused. Once Svealand had occupied the region, Kalevala launched a surprise attack by organizing forces within the Independent Svealand Army still loyal to them to launch a coup, though this ended in failure with the small remaining forces loyal to the coup based in Gotland and Kapellskär were placed under Kalevian protection. This western crisis proved to be enough of a distraction for Zapadoluvakhia and Groys-Baltik to continue their offensive westwards while Svealand attacked eastwards, overwhelming Kalevala's defences to the point of collapse as Helsinki (and the government) quickly fell, leading to the Kalevian government officially surrendering, though some remaining forces rejected the surrender and kept up the fight in Sapmi-Pohjola for some time before being defeated as well, forcing Kalevala to accept the following terms;
- The Zapadoluvakhia Military District was reorganized into the 'Republic of Zapadoluvakhia'.
- The Torne Zone was annexed into Svealand.
- All of the Tanume Military District aside from a small area around Tallinn was annexed into Groys-Baltik.
- Zapadoluvakhia annexed the Kola Peninsula, Salla, and Sør-Varanger.
- Svealand annexed Tromsø.
- Several regions within Kalevala such as Meänmaa, Finnmark, (western) Karelia, and Savo were placed under Svealish (Meänmaa-Finnmark Distrikt) and Zapadoluvakhian (Savo-Karel'skiy Rayon) occupation.
