Within weeks, most of Kalevala fell under the rule of the MLL, prompting militias within the Karelian DMZ to rise up and proclaim the independence of the '[[Karelian National Government]]', while in the north the [[Suomi-Pohjola Military District]] split in two as the '[[Sapmi Regional Assembly]]' revolted. Rather easily, the MLL managed to overwhelm the Kalevian government enough to capture [[Helsinki]], forcing the former government to flee to Tanume as the 'military districts' collapsed and largely fell under the rule of the newly proclaimed '[[Kalevian Empire]]', which began to wage war against the separatists.
