The Combine activated its 'specialized weaponry', with its offensive fleets using their '[[Vyalumin]] Laser Cannons' that fired continuous destructive beams which only needed to be recharged every couple minutes, maintaining their strangely rectangular shape throughout, while the Zerg simply kept charging at them with numerical superiority as Voluna attempted to break through in the center, though this was met with very mixed success as Zerg kept infesting their ships by melting their way in and seizing control. All of the sudden, swarms of Zerg began flooding into the nearest interstellar civilization they could get their hands on, the 'Volunan Combine', prompting Voluna to set up defensive perimeters as hundreds of Leviathans crossed into its space. Defensive fleets were positioned around Ilnium, Voluna, and Vormantel (which failed as a brood from Zerus simly went around the defencees) while offensive fleets attacked the incoming Zerg as the people of the Combine were slowly being assimilated by Zerg-based mutagens. The Combine activated its 'specialized weaponry', with its offensive fleets using their 'Vyalumin Laser Cannons' that fired continuous destructive beams which only needed to be recharged every couple minutes, maintaining their strangely rectangular shape throughout, while the Zerg simply kept charging at them with numerical superiority as Voluna attempted to break through in the center, though this was met with very mixed success as Zerg kept infesting their ships by melting their way in and seizing control. Volunan defences at Vormantel attempted a last stand to cause as many casualties as possible as the breakthrough to Gystt saw very minimal results due to their numerical inferiority and was thus forced back. The fleet defending Vormantel fell, while the surface still held out for some time before being overwhelmed. Remaining Volunan defences began to gradually crumble which allowed the Zerg to swarm into their territory and infest their remaining worlds. Voluna remarked that this was 'interesting and promising in the coming' and evacuated into unclaimed space as their territory was annexed, warning not only the Zerg but seemingly everyone to 'beware Zakarra Prime', a planet seemingly being used as an outpost by The Qu following the Qu-Martian War. This warning freaked out the Yatan-Theian Accord as they feared that the Qu would come back to destroy them, especially once a communication containing the message "Very interesting. They know more than i thought they did. Oh well, the sequencing has already begun." was intercepted and decoded from Zakarra Prime. Eventually, the exiled Volunan fleet relocated to a location near Yeqwiqu where they formed the 'Neuvum Combine'.
